Nuclear and mitochondrial homologous recombination process to repair DSB by nucleases and helicases

Cells are continuously exposed to different sources of DNA damage agents that can compromise genome stability. Double-strand break (DSB) is one of the most cytotoxic lesions, so faithful repair of DSB is critical to ensure cell viability. Repair of DSBs occurs by direct re-ligation of DNA ends through the non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) pathway or by the homologous recombination (HR) pathway. Then, cells choose to activate any of these pathways according to their cell cycle progression. The HR pathway repairs the DSBs by using homologous DNA sequence as template for the broken chromosomes. This activity generates joint molecule (JM) intermediates during the different steps of the pathway. JM intermediates are sequentially matured into novel intermediates or dismantled by different specialized proteins (helicases and nucleases) to prevent their progression towards mitosis. Therefore, failure in resolving the JM intermediates results in chromosome segregation defects. Regarding mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), DNA molecules are constantly damaged as the nuclear DNA and the mtDNA repair process needs to be coordinated with the nucleus activity. For that reason, the majority of the proteins needed for mtDNA repair are imported from the nucleus. Posteriormente se realizaron estimaciones paramétricas y no paramétricas de las curvas de Engel, para cada rubro, con el fin de identificar su naturaleza.*************************************************************************************************************The purpose of this study is to analyze the change in magnitude, composition and distribution of the household's expenditure in 1997 and 2003, using quality of life surveys. The analysis shows a decrease in the per capita expenditure (23,9%), specially in rural zones and richer regions, which reflects the economic recession that the country lives since 1998. This unequal decrease leads to a better distribution and a change in the expenditure structure where the portion of foodexpenses increase while the education and health ones reduces. In the paper we use descriptive statistics taking into acount the quantiles by region and zones (rural and urban). Then, we make parametric and non-parametric estimations of the Engel curve for each group of commodities in order to identify their nature.Gasto de los Hogares, magnitud, composición, distribución, curvas de Engel

Synthesis, structural characterization and broadband ferromagnetic resonance in Li ferrite nanoparticles

Producción CientíficaLithium ferrites are well known materials due to its numerous technological applications especially in microwave devices. Lithium ferrite nanoparticles were prepared by sol-gel technique by means of Pechini method, and then annealed at different temperatures in 250–1000 °C range. XRD confirms spinel formation with particles sizes in 15–700 nm range, with increased size with annealing temperature, whereas FTIR and Raman measurement confirm that single phase lithium ferrite with ordered cationic structure is obtained. Microwave magnetoabsorption data of the annealed lithium ferrite nanoparticles were obtained with a broadband system based on a network analyzer that operates up to 8.5 GHz. At fields up to 200 mT we can observe a broad absorption peak that shifts to higher frequencies with magnetic field according to ferromagnetic resonance theory. The amplitude of absorption, up to 85%, together with the frequency width of about 5.5 GHz makes this material suitable as wave absorber. FMR parameters like resonance field, linewidth and broadening are analyzed in order to obtain the characteristic parameters and analyze the microwave behaviour.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad ( project MAT2016-80784-P

INTRODUCING THE MINI-FUTURES CONTRACT ON IBEX-35: IMPLICATIONS FOR PRICE DISCOVERY AND VOLATILITY TRANSMISSION

In November 2001, the Spanish Official Exchange for Financial Futures and options launched the mini IBEX-35 futures contract. Following the seminal paper of Bessembider and Seguin (1992), this paper analyzes the effects of the introduction of the mini-futures contract in the Spanish stock index futures market. The objective of the paper is twofold: a) to analyze the potential destabilizing effect of the mini futures trading activity on the distribution of spot returns, and b) to test whether the mini futures contract significantly contributes to the price discovery process. A non-parametric approach is used to estimate the density function of spot return conditional to both spot and futures trading volume. Empirical findings using 15-minutes intraday data reveals that the mini futures trading activity enhances the price discovery function of the derivative market and does not destabilize spot prices. Futuros mini, price discovery, desestabilización Ibex 35 Mini-futures, price discovery, destabilization, Ibex 35

Selection of the Informative Base in ARMA-GARCH Models

In this paper we consider the selection of the information set in ARMA-GARCH models using the methodology proposed in Muñoz et al. (2001) based on ideas of Phillips (1996). To that end, we analyse the performance of some selection criteria asymptotically equivalent to the Bayes factor and propose a method to build approximated Bayesian forecast intervals.ARMA, GARCH, Prediction , Model Selection, Information Set Selection

Speaker Diarization Based on Intensity Channel Contribution

    Get PDF
The time delay of arrival (TDOA) between multiple microphones has been used since 2006 as a source of information (localization) to complement the spectral features for speaker diarization. In this paper, we propose a new localization feature, the intensity channel contribution (ICC) based on the relative energy of the signal arriving at each channel compared to the sum of the energy of all the channels. We have demonstrated that by joining the ICC features and the TDOA features, the robustness of the localization features is improved and that the diarization error rate (DER) of the complete system (using localization and spectral features) has been reduced. By using this new localization feature, we have been able to achieve a 5.2% DER relative improvement in our development data, a 3.6% DER relative improvement in the RT07 evaluation data and a 7.9% DER relative improvement in the last year's RT09 evaluation data

Simulation of a solar assisted counterflow tunnel dehydrator

A widely used class of vegetable dehydration systems are the “tunnel-and-truck” dehydrators, where the prepared material lies over horizontal trays stored in trucks which move discontinuously in opposite direction of the air flow. This way the driest product is facing the inlet hot and dry air blowed to the system. When product of one truck is ready, is removed from the tunnel leaving space for advance the remaining truck one place forward. This way, a new truck full of wet product can be inserted at the end of the tunnel. The hermal energy required for the process can be supplied by several sources including gas, biomass, solar energy or a combination of them. Solar energy is for free but reaches the Earth with quite a low flux and a strongly fluctuating rate. This imposes the need of special designs and control strategies. This paper presents a study based on simulation models of the dehydrator and the solar thermal system. The dehydrator simulation model is tuned to match experimental data from a particular prototype based on fossil fuel. A solar system simulation model is then applied to the analysis of different design options.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
