    User's manual: Subsonic/supersonic advanced panel pilot code

    Sufficient instructions for running the subsonic/supersonic advanced panel pilot code were developed. This software was developed as a vehicle for numerical experimentation and it should not be construed to represent a finished production program. The pilot code is based on a higher order panel method using linearly varying source and quadratically varying doublet distributions for computing both linearized supersonic and subsonic flow over arbitrary wings and bodies. This user's manual contains complete input and output descriptions. A brief description of the method is given as well as practical instructions for proper configurations modeling. Computed results are also included to demonstrate some of the capabilities of the pilot code. The computer program is written in FORTRAN IV for the SCOPE 3.4.4 operations system of the Ames CDC 7600 computer. The program uses overlay structure and thirteen disk files, and it requires approximately 132000 (Octal) central memory words

    As mudanças de uso e cobertura das terras, a consequente fragmentação de paisagens naturais e seus potenciais impactos nas mudanças globais, ciclos biogeoquímicos, dinâmicas regionais e biodiversidade têm se tornado temas centrais em Ciências da Terra (Vitousek et al., 1997; National Research Council, 1998; Lambin et al., 1999; Moran et al., 2001), modernos métodos para o estudo de relações espaciais (Turner et al. 1995; Forman, 1997) e diversas aplicações no planejamento e monitoramento de territórios têm contribuído para uma leitura diferenciada sobre a dominação humana em espaços terrestres (GOIodland et al., 1993; Daily et al., 2000). As ciências sociais acompanham essas tendências e catalisam a atividade científica para abordagens mais integradoras (Liverman et al., 1998; Lubchenco, 1998; Berkes & Folke, 2000; Fox et al., 2002). Por sua abrangência geográfica e relevância socioambiental, o processo mais importante de fragmentação da paisagem em nível regional, e com possíveis consequências globais, e o desmatamento de florestas tropicais, em particular da Amazônia (Lambin, 1997; Williams, 2003)..

    Integration of vegetation inventory data and thematic mapper image for Amazonian successional and mature forest classification.

    Successional and mature forest classification is often difficult in moist tropical regions. This paper explores vegetation stand structures of successional and mature forests and their spectral characteristics. Canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) was used to identify important stand parameters for secondary succession and mature forest classification. Correlation coefficient was used to analyze different stand parameter relationships and associated TM spectral signatures. Transformed divergence was used to analyze the separability of succession stages and mature forest based on the resultant images from CDA and principal component analysis (PCA), respectively. This study indicates that five vegetation categories, i.e., initial succession, intermediate succession, advanced succession, small biomass mature forest, and large biomass mature forest, can be istinguished based on vegetation stand features using field measurements, but some of them are difficult to be classified using TM data. Tree diameter at breast height, tree height, aboveground biomass, and ratio of tree biomass to total aboveground biomass are the best stand parameters distinguishing vegetation classes. Bands TM 4 and TM 5 are best for distinguishing vegetation classes. The transformation using CDA improved separability of vegetation classes, but not using PCA. Two successional stages and one mature forest class are suitable in this study area

    Aggregating multiple body sensors for analysis in sports

    Real time monitoring of the wellness of sportspersons, during their sporting activity and training, is important in order to maximise performance during the sporting event itself and during training, as well as being important for the health of the sportsperson overall. We have combined a suite of common, off-the-shelf sensors with specialist body sensing technology we are developing ourselves and constructed a software system for recording, analysing and presenting sensed data gathered from a single player during a sporting activity, a football match. We gather readings for heart rate, galvanic skin response, motion, heat flux, respiration, and location (GPS) using on-body sensors, while simultaneously tracking player activity using a combination of a playercam video and pitch-wide video recording. We have aggregated all this sensed data into a single overview of player performance and activity which can be reviewed, post-event. We are currently working on integrating other non-invasive methods for real-time on-body monitoring of sweat electrolytes and pH via a textile-based sweat sampling and analysis platform. Our work is heading in two directions; firstly from post-event data aggregation to real-time monitoring, and secondly, to convert raw sensor readings into performance indicators that are meaningful to practitioners in the field

    Self-aligned 0.12mm T-gate In.53Ga.47As/In.52Al.48As HEMT Technology Utilising a Non Annealed Ohmic Contact Strategy

    An InGaAs/InAlAs based HEMT structure, lattice matched to an InP substrate, is presented in which drive current and transconductance has been optimized through a double-delta doping strategy. Together with an increase in channel carrier density, this allows the use of a non-annealed ohmic contact process. HEMT devices with 120 nm standard and self-aligned T-gates were fabricated using the non-annealed ohmic process. At DC, self-aligned and standard devices exhibited transconductances of up to 1480 and 1100 mS/mm respectively, while both demonstrated current densities in the range 800 mA/mm. At RF, a cutoff frequency f/sub T/ of 190 GHz was extracted for the self-aligned device. The DC characteristics of the standard devices were then calibrated and modelled using a compound semiconductor Monte Carlo device simulator. MC simulations provide insight into transport within the channel and illustrate benefits over a single delta doped structure
