Binary-mixture droplet evaporation: Lubrication approximation and coffee ring formation
This paper was presented at the 3rd Micro and Nano Flows Conference (MNF2011), which was held at the Makedonia Palace Hotel, Thessaloniki in Greece. The conference was organised by Brunel University and supported by the Italian Union of Thermofluiddynamics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Thessaly, IPEM, the Process Intensification Network, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Heat Transfer Society, HEXAG - the Heat Exchange Action Group, and the Energy Institute. In this paper the dynamics of an evaporating sessile droplet spreading on a horizontal substrate is reported. A mathematical model based on the lubrication approximation is developed accounting for Marangoni effect, contact line motion, and multi-component fluid. After validating the model through pure liquid spreading and evaporation, an extension of the model is performed on a binary component liquid in which composition changes occur during the drying process. Furthermore, the presence of particles in the fluid enables to retrieve the coffee-ring formation. A good qualitative and quantitative agreement between the model and experimental observations is found. This study is funded from ANR PANâH 2008 CATIMINHY project

N-Methyl-4,4-bipyridinium and N-Methyl-N -oxide-4,4 -bipyridinium Bismuth Complexes - Photochromism and Photoluminescence in the Solid State
Three bismuth complexes based on N-methyl-4,4-bipyridinium (hMV(+)), (hMV)[Bi(hMV)Cl-5] (1), and N-methyl-N-oxide-4,4-bipyridinium (MVO+), [Bi(MVO)X-4(dmso)]center dot dmso [X = Cl (2), Br (3)], are reported. All three compounds show luminescence in the solid state with maxima at 545 nm (yellow for 1) and 560 nm (orange for 2 and 3) with quantum yields up to 10 %. Upon UV irradiation, 1 undergoes a color change from white to blue accompanied by a reduction of the photoluminescence intensity. The analysis of the crystal structure of the three complexes points to a photoinduced charge-transfer (PICT) process at the origin of the photochromism in 1

Parenting Stress in Immigrant Families of Children With an Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Comparison With Families From the Host Culture
Immigrant families of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) face significant challenges in accessing and using rehabilitation services appropriate for their childâs disorder. Compared to families native to their host country, the stress experienced by these families in relation to their childâs condition may be magnified by their immigrant status. This study compared self-reported parenting stress levels among 24 mothers and 17 fathers who had immigrated to Canada to income-matched, Canadian-born parents. Overall, Canadian-born parents tended to report higher stress levels than immigrant parents, but this may be primarily due to the high stress levels among Canadian-born fathers relative to immigrant fathers and mothers from both types of families. These findings highlight the necessity of using supplemental and specialized stress measures when focusing on immigrant families, for whom stress associated with the immigration process may compound or manifest separately from parenting stress. Cultural influences on the perception of ASD (its causes, treatment, and prognosis), childrenâs place in the family, and parentsâ roles in childrearing may also impact stress
