Voluntary pre-trade anonymity and market liquidity

This paper analyses the effects on liquidity of voluntary pre-trade anonymity in the trading process. We confirm previous studies showing that market liquidity improves immediately after anonymous trading. Using the daily percentage of effective volume traded anonymously, we show that the anonymity–liquidity relationship presents a non-linear U-shape. We focus on the voluntary concealment of broker identification introduced by the Spanish Stock Exchange in October 2015. Proyecto de demolición de la ruina industrial y retirada de maquinaria en las canteras de Atxarte y Atxa Txiki (Abadiño, Bizkaia)

El “Proyecto de demolición de la ruina industrial y retirada de maquinaria en las canteras de Atxarte y Atxa Txiki (Abadiño, Bizkaia)” contempla la demolición de todos los elementos que componen las instalaciones correspondientes al proceso de extracción y machaqueo de material en los mencionados frentes de extracción. Se trata de edificaciones y maquinaria en situación de completo abandono desde el cese de la actividad en el año 1995, situadas en el interior del Parque Natural de Urkiola, con el impacto ambiental que esto conlleva. Se plantea un proceso de demolición selectiva, que facilitará los procesos de reutilización, reciclaje y valorización de los residuos, con el fin de reducir al máximo el volumen de RCD trasladado a vertedero. El proceso de demolición se realizará de forma mixta o combinada, es decir, se llevará a cabo una fase previa de preparación y demolición manual, seguida de una fase de demolición mecánica en la que se opta por procedimientos de mecánica hidroneumática, combinando el uso de martillo hidráulico sobre retroexcavadora con el empleo de la cizalla hidráulica sobre retroexcavadora. El proyecto se plantea con un objetivo claramente medioambiental, ya que se considera el primer paso para una recuperación total del entorno afectado por la explotación de las canteras.“Atxarte eta Atxa Txiki (Abadiño, Bizkaia) harrobietako makina eta hondakin industrialaren eraispenerako proiektua”-k harrobi hauetan egindako erauzketa eta birrinketa prozesuetarako erabilitako instalazioen eraispena hartzen du bere barne. 1995. urtean lanak bertan behera utzi zirenetik hutsik eta ahaztuta dauden makineria eta eraikin hauek Urkiolako Parke Naturalean kokatzen dira, egoera hau ingurumenarekiko kaltegarria izanik. It's buildings and machinery in full neglected since the cessation of the activity in the year 1995, located in the interior of the Urkiola Natural Park, with the environmental impact that this entails. This project proposes a selective demolition, which will facilitate the process of reuse, recycling and recovery of waste, in order to minimize the volume transferred to landfill. The demolition process will include a previous phase of preparation and manual demolition, followed by a phase of mechanical demolition, combining the use of hydraulic hammer on backhoe with the use of the hydraulic shear on backhoe. This project arises with a clear environmental objective, as it is considered the first step towards a full recovery of the environment affected by the exploitation of the quarries

Novel ICI suppressing receiver for high-mobility DVB-T2 reception with large FFT modes

This paper proposes a novel framework for reducing the inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by time-varying channels in mobile OFDM systems. The proposed ICI suppressing scheme is based on the application of the sum-product (SP) algorithm to a factor graph (FG) representing the joint a posteriori probability (APP) of the transmitted symbols. Simulation results show that this new iterative soft-input soft-output (SISO) detection strategy achieves good performance when the ICI power is high, which can be due to high mobility or the use of large FFT sizes. We discuss its application to the reception of the new DVB-T2 broadcasting standard for a set of realistic mobile scenarios

Health implications of an immigration raid: findings from a Latino community in the midwestern United States.

Immigration raids exemplify the reach of immigration law enforcement into the lives of Latino community members, yet little research characterizes the health effects of these raids. We examined the health implications of an immigration raid that resulted in multiple arrests and deportations and occurred midway through a community survey of a Latino population. We used linear regression following principal axis factoring to examine the influence of raid timing on immigration enforcement stress and self-rated health. We controlled for age, sex, relationship status, years in the county in which the raid occurred, children in the home, and nativity. 325 participants completed the survey before the raid and 151 after. Completing the survey after the raid was associated with higher levels of immigration enforcement stress and lower self-rated health scores. Findings indicate the negative impact of immigration raids on Latino communities. Immigration discussions should include holistic assessments of health.UL1 TR000433 - NCATS NIH HH

De la biografía a la prosopografía: los parlamentarios de los distritos de Vasconia en la II República española (1931-1939)

Having carried out a micro-biographical analysis, using primary sources, of the 610 parliamentarians who represented the Basque districts between 1808 and 1939 in successive biographical dictionaries, we now undertake a prosopographical analysis of 44 parliamentarians who represented the districts of the Basque Country in the Spanish II Republic (1931-1939). Aspects covered include: geographical origin, age, life expectancy, educational and professional profile, cultural level and sociability, continuity in political activity between the Monarchy and the Republic. The work offers novel comparative conclusions.Realizado un análisis microbiográfico, con fuentes primarias, de los 610 parlamentarios que representaron a los distritos vascos entre 1808 y 1939 en sucesivos diccionarios biográficos, abordamos el análisis prosopográfico de los 44 parlamentarios que representaron a los distritos de Vasconia en la II República española (1931-1939): origen geográfico, edad, esperanza de vida, perfil educativo y profesional, nivel cultural y sociabilidad, continuidad en la actividad política entre la Monarquía y la República. Use of brachytherapy in children with cancer: the search for an uncomplicated cure

Brachytherapy is a sophisticated radiation method in which radioisotopes are placed inside or at a short distance from the tumour. The volume of tissue that receives the prescribed dose of radiotherapy is therefore fairly small compared with that used in standard radiotherapy techniques. In paediatric oncology, this method of radiation delivery can have a favourable effect on several undesirable long-term side-effects that sometimes develop in children who receive radiotherapy, such as growth retardation and development of second primary tumours. Here, we describe the rationale for use of brachytherapy in children with cancer, the methods of the different brachytherapy techniques available, and the results obtained with several brachytherapy regimens in expert institutions throughout the world
