ABSTRACT: Clay rich deposits occurring in Upper Cretaceous levels of the Lusitanian basin
in Taveiro (Reveles and S. Pedro) and Aveiro (Bustos) regions, western
Portugal, were selected for a detailed geochemical and mineralogical study,
contributing for a more complete characterization of industrial exploited clay
resources. Besides granulometric analysis, mineralogical (XRD) and chemical
characterization (XRF and INAA) was applied to whole rock and different size
fractions (Ф ≥ 125 μm, 63-125 μm, 20-63 μm, 2-20 μm and Ф <2 μm). The
main goals of this study are: (i) better understanding the mineralogy and
geochemistry of clayey levels, and (ii) a more detailed knolwledge of trace
elements geochemistry, namely rare earth elements (REE), in sediments and
their correlation with mineralogy, particularly the clay minerals.
Reveles clayey levels present, besides quartz, alkali feldspars and
phillosilicates, these more concentrated in the finer sample. São Pedro, also in
Taveiro region, is differentiated by a lower content of alkali feldspars and the
presence of hematite. In Bustos, the clay levels studied are finer compared to
Taveiro, and mainly composed of phyllosilicates, and also quartz, alkali
feldspars, and calcite in one sample. Chemical composition of whole rock,
major and minor elements, reflect the different mineralogical associations.
Bustos presents the lowest amount of SiO2 and the higher Al2O3, MgO and K2O
contents.
As far as the clay minerals are concerned, smectite, illite and kaolinite occur in
Reveles, while only kaolinite and illite are found in São Pedro. Illite dominates
in the Aveiro outcrop (Bustos), along with kaolinite and mixed layer
illite/smectite.
REE patterns and concentrations, as well as other trace elements, in the clay
fraction depend on the clay minerals present, suggesting their incorporation by
absorption/adsorption and/or substituting major elements. When kaolinite
dominates, followed by illite (São Pedro), REE are concentrated in the clay
fraction, pointing to their incorporation mainly in kaolinite, while in the presence
of smectite as dominant mineral, an enrichment of 1st transition elements is
observed, particularly Zn. A higher content of illite appears associated with a
Cs enrichment in the clay fraction, indicating its incorporation in this clay
mineral.
Trace elements geochemistry, together with major and minor elements, alows a
better differentiation of the studied Upper Cretaceous levels, as well as a more
complete correlation with the mineralogical associations of the whole rock and
different size fractions. In the whole rock, when normalized to Sc, different
enrichments are observed: (a) Cs and W in Bustos; (b) Ti, Zn, Zr, Hf, Ba, TR
and Th in Reveles; and (c) Sb in São Pedro

Discussing one Methodology to the Equitable Allocation of Federal Resources to the National Health System
This article deals with the application of an equitable allocation methodology concerning the federal resources of Brazil's National Health System (SUS) to the states and municipalities, for Primary Health Care and also Medium and High Complexity procedures. Few actions in the field of health financing have been developed in Brazil, in order to comply with the legal requirements of universal and equitable health. What usually happens is the prevalence of the historical behavior of resource allocation based on health production and not on health necessities. The proposed methodology follows the approach of Porto et al (2001), using the technique of principal component analysis, with some adjustments and changes in the definition of the reference scale, mainly for medium and high complexity procedures. Based on this methodology, the work presents the distribution proposed to SUS federal resources in 2005, establishing comparisons between the found values and the present ones, for both kinds of procedures. In the case of Primary Health Care procedures, the proposed methodology includes all Brazilian municipalities, consolidated to a state level. On the other hand, for Medium and High Complexity procedures it was developed only for the state level
Lead bioremoval by cork residues as biosorbent
The intensification of industrial activity during the last few years has greatly contributed to the increase of heavy metals in the environment, mainly in the aquatic systems [1]. Conventional technologies traditionally used for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions are expensive and inefficient at low metal concentrations [2]. Biosorption, which is a property of different types of biomass (biosorbents) to bind and concentrate heavy metals from even very dilute aqueous solutions, is one of the most promising technologies that can be used for this purpose [3]. The goal of this work was to study the bioremoval process of Pb(II) ions from aqueous dilute solutions by cork granulates (1-2 mm) from a Portuguese cork processing company. The effect of physico-chemical parameters such as initial metal solution, pH, biomass cork pre-treatments and initial metal and biosorbent concentrations on the metal removal efficiency were investigated. The maximum Pb(II) uptake capacity (Qmax) of cork biomass was also determined from the Langmuir isotherm. The results obtained showed that the optimum initial pH for Pb(II) removal was in the range 3-4, leading to removal yields of about 90-100% for initial metal concentrations of 10-100 mg/L. Cork biomass without treatment provided a higher removal yield (93%) than the biomass submitted to previous extraction with deionised water (80%), ethyl acetate (83%) and ethanol (88 %). The Langmuir model showed a very good correlation with experimental results (r2=0.995) and the Qmax was determined as being 5.3 mg Pb(II)/g cork. The optimisation of continuous bioremoval of Pb(II) (10 mg/L) from 25 L of influent, regarding metal uptake yield and volume of effluent containing a Pb(II) concentration 1 mg/L (MAV), was carried out by the factorial design methodology, leading to the establishment of the best operating conditions. In these conditions, two fixed bed-reactors (operational liquid volume of each reactor containing 20g of biosorbent=138 mL) running in sequential mode (feed flow rate - 590 mL/h) were more efficient (effluent volume with [Pb(II)] 1 mg/L=10 L) than one reactor alone (effluent volume with [Pb(II)] 1 mg/L=5 L). Finally, the chemical characterization in terms of CQO, TOC and phenolic compounds of the effluent before discharge showed that all values were lower than the ones allowed by environmental legislation
A checklist of the bryophytes of Distrito Federal (Brasília, Brazil)
The Distrito Federal, one of the most important centers of plant endemism in central Brazil, is located in the center of Brazil, with an area of 5,814 km2 at coordinates 15o30’ S, 16o03’W. Cerrado vegetation covers the region. The main city in the Distrito Federal is Brasília, the capital of Brazil with a population of 2.5 million. In the last two decades the anthropogenic action has reduced the original plant cover drastically. In this paper a checklist of the bryophytes (Marchantiophyta, Bryophyta and Anthocerotophyta) is presented. A total of 176 species are listed, 114 among Bryophyta, 61 among Marchantiophyta and 1 in the Anthocerotophyta. The families best represented are the Bryaceae and Sematophyllaceae (Bryophyta), and the Jubulaceae and Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophya).O Distrito Federal, reconhecido com um dos principais centros de diversidade e endemismo de espécies vegetais do Brasil Central, está localizado no centro do pais, com uma área de 5.814 Km2, entre as coordenadas 15°30’ S, 16°03’O. Actividade física no idoso

BACKGROUND: Recent data indicate that the increased longevity requires radical structure changes on elderly daily life that affects various aspects of their routine, from feeding, to practises and behaviour: Falls are a complex problem in the elderly because they compromise, in a decisive manner, the quality of life and may even aggravate some clinical problems. In this context, the idea of performing a research seeking some way contribute to the study of the elderly, particularly regarding the importance of physical activity in balance/fall hazard.
METHODS: This is a exploratory, descriptive, and correlational study, which aims to understand the importance of physical activity (PA) in the Balance/fall risk in the elderly, as measured by the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). It also analyse the influences of personal characteristics and BMI in PA and in balance/fall hazard. The sample is not probabilistic, because individuals were choose by convenience, and consisted of 62 elderly, 34 females and 28 males. The average age of respondents was 71.9 years.
RESULTS: About 40.3% of the elderly are insufficiently active, and only 12.9% of the sample has a level of PA that corresponds to the internationally recommended. The correlation analysis showed that increased BMI is associated with a decrease in PA (r =- 0.290, p = 0.022). It was also noted that there was a significant correlation between age and risk of falling (r = 0.506, p = 0.000), with the oldest scoring lower values in the BBS. Comparative analysis and correlation analysis show that an increase in aerobic PA of moderate intensity for five or more days a week is associated to higher levels of balance, thus elders who had, at least, 30 minutes of PA show less risk of falls.
CONCLUSIONS: The main conclusion we reach with this study is that regular PA have benefits on quality of life, particularly in maintaining the ability to balance and weight control.

outras patologias do foro mental.
Recorremos a
inicialmente 449 artigos. No final do processo, selecionamos 13 artigos.
apresenta efeitos colaterais leves.
Contudo, a escolha do
Hyperactivity Disorder / Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental
disorder. It is multifactorial, heterogeneous and complex, being more frequent in children
and adolescents. In addition to the assessment, it is essential to have a differential
diagnosis, given that this disorder has a very similar symptom to other mental disorders.
Subsequently, the diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is elaborated, developing
strategies adapted to the characteristics and particularities of the person. Given the
relevance of the theme, this investigation provides parents, health and education
professionals with a systematic review, whose objective is to understand that the scientific
evidence documents about the assessment and current intervention in ADHD.
First, we defined the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the studies. We used some
scientific databases to search for articles, with 449 articles initially identified. At the end of
the process, we selected 13 articles. A survey was also carried out that included reference
works on ADHD, in previous periods. Then, we extracted the data and performed the risk
of bias assessment of the included studies.
The results reveal the importance of psychological / neuropsychological assessment and
intervention in ADHD. However, there are increasing uncertainties regarding the choice of
the most appropriate treatment. The main treatments are based on cognitive-behavioral
therapy (psychological intervention) and psychoactive drugs (pharmacological
intervention). Pharmacological intervention is the most used and, as a rule, has side
effects. The psychological intervention demonstrates beneficial results in terms of
cognitive and behavioral symptoms. Several studies point to the combined treatment as
the most effective. However, the choice of treatment must be individualized, based on the
severity of symptoms, comorbidities, previous attempts at therapy and on family, social
and educational conditions.
We conclude that the psychologist assumes a fundamental role in the psychological /
neuropsychological assessment, a major contribution to a differential diagnosis, as well as
to the level of psychological intervention. Therefore, investment in psychological
promotion and intervention programs in PHD is considered an added value
