    Phylogenetic relationships and larval morphology of the recently described diving beetle genus Laccomimus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae: Laccophilinae)

    The larvae of the diving beetle genus Laccomimus Toledo & Michat, 2015 (Laccophilinae) are studied for the first time, based on detailed descriptions and illustrations of all instars of L. distinctus Toledo & Michat, 2015, with particular emphasis on morphometry and chaetotaxy. The phylogenetic relationships of this genus within the tribe Laccophilini are analyzed cladistically. Laccomimus is recovered as part of a clade that includes the genera Australphilus Watts, 1978, Neptosternus Sharp, 1882 and Laccophilus Leach, 1815 and is characterized by the presence of natatory setae on the tibia and tarsus, and within this clade it is a sister to the other genera. Third-instar larvae of Laccomimus and Africophilus Guignot, 1948 share the mediodistal insertion of the seta CO7 on the meso- and metacoxa, a short and spine-like seta TI6 on the metatibia, a ventrally sclerotized abdominal segment V and a short urogomphus. These characters are considered plesiomorphic and indicate a basal position of both genera within the Laccophilini. All instars of Laccomimus are characterized by the anterolateral lobes of the frontoclypeus clearly projecting beyond the anterior margin and the last abdominal segment strongly elongated. Diagnostic features of the first instar are: frontoclypeus unmodified posteriorly, lamellae clypeales thin and hair-like, pores ANe, MXb–d–f–i, LAb–c and seta TR3 absent, seta LA3 and an additional dorsal pore present on the prementum, abdominal tergites I–VII with anterior transverse carina, and ventral surface of the abdominal segment VI sclerotized.Fil: Michat, Mariano Cruz.     Innovation without growth: Frameworks for understanding technological change in a post-growth era

    The feasibility and desirability of endless economic growth is being increasingly questioned by scholars and activists. Whilst envisioning alternative economic models is key to assure the sustainability and wellbeing of present and future generations, few studies have analysed what might be the role of ‘innovation’ in a post-growth era. Innovating has become an imperative for the survival and expansion of any form of organisation. But this ‘innovate or die mania’ underpins assumptions – such as technological determinism and productivism – that neglect the socially constructed character of technological development, its politics and its capacity to enable (or disable) just and equitable societies. In this paper we posit that untangling innovation from growth is key to imagine a post-growth era. We show how alternative bottom up initiatives, promoted by a variety of different organizational forms, have challenged mainstream ideas about innovation and growth. These experiments provide a glimpse into what ‘innovation without growth’ could mean in terms of technology and social organization. We conclude by proposing new paths in research aimed at exploring under which conditions post-growth-oriented organizations can flourish and diffuse.Fil: Pansera, Mario.     Nuevos registros de garrapatas (Acari: Ixodidae) asociadas a roedores sigmodontinos en Chubut, Argentina

    Se reportan nuevos hallazgos de garrapatas obtenidas de roedores capturados en sitios cercanos a Cholila (42o31'S, 71o27'W), provincia del Chubut (Argentina). Se registraron las siguientes asociaciones parásito-hospedador: Oligoryzomys lonngicaudatus: 1 larva de Amblyomma tigrinum, 1 hembra de Ixodes sigelos, 2 ninfas de I. sigelos; Reithrodon auritus: 1 hembra de I. sigelos; Loxodontomys micropus: 1 ninfa de I. sigelos; Chelemys macronyx: 7 larvas de I. sigelos. Ixodes sigelos no ha sido reportada previamente en C. macronyx, así como tampoco A. tigrinum sobre O. longicaudatus. Estos resultados brindan nueva evidencia del rol fundamental que cumplen los roedores en el ciclo biológico de algunas garrapatas presentes en la Argentina.We report new findings of ticks from rodents trapped at different sites near Cholila (42o31’S, 71o27’W), Chubut Province (Argentina).     Simulation-based Machine Learning Training for Brain Anomalies Localization at Microwaves

    Machine learning enters the world of medical application and, in this paper, it joins microwave imaging technique for brain stroke classification. One of the main challenges in this application is the need of a large amount of data for the machine learning algorithm training that can be performed via measurements or simulations. In this work, we propose to make the algorithm training via simulations based on a linear integral operator that reduces by three orders of magnitude the data generation time with respect to standard full-wave simulations. This method is used here to train the multilayer perceptron algorithm. The data-set is organized in nine classes, related to the presence, the type and the position of the stroke within the brain. We verified that the algorithm metrics (accuracy, recall and precision) reach values close to 1 for each class

    Neutrophilic Cell-Free Exudate Induces Antinociception Mediate by the Protein S100A9

    Calcium-binding protein S100A9 (MRP-14) induces antinociceptive effect in an experimental model of painful sensibility and participates of antinociception observed during neutrophilic peritonitis induced by glycogen or carrageenan in mice. In this study, the direct antinociceptive role of the protein S100A9 in neutrophilic cell-free exudates obtained of mice injected with glycogen was investigated. Mice were intraperitoneally injected with a glycogen solution, and after 4, 8, 24, and 48 hours, either the pattern of cell migration of the peritoneal exudate or the nociceptive response of animals was evaluated. The glycogen-induced neutrophilic peritonitis evoked antinociception 4 and 8 hours after inoculation of the irritant. Peritoneal cell-free exudates, collected in different times after the irritant injection, were transferred to naive animals which were submitted to the nociceptive test. The transference of exudates also induced antinociceptive effect, and neutralization of S100A9 activity by anti-S100A9 monoclonal antibody totally reverted this response. This effect was not observed when experiments were made 24 or 48 hours after glycogen injection. These results clearly indicate that S100A9 is secreted during glycogen-induced neutrophilic peritonitis, and that this protein is responsible by antinociception observed in the initial phase of inflammatory reaction. Thus, these data reinforce the hypothesis that the calcium-binding protein S100A9 participates of the endogenous control of inflammatory pain

    Factores Asociados a sepsis neonatal temprana en pacientes ingresados a la Sala de Neonatología del Hospital Amistad Japón Nicaragua de la Ciudad de Granada, en el período comprendido de Enero a Diciembre del año 2016

    En Nicaragua las muertes neonatales representan un problema serio de salud, el cual se ha tratado de disminuir a través de normas y protocolos tomando en cuenta los factores asociados a éstas; se realizó un estudio de tipo descriptivo de corte transversal en el Hospital Amistad Japón Nicaragua de la ciudad de Granada en donde se pretende describir los factores asociados sepsis neonatal temprana en pacientes atendidos en el Servicio de Neonatología del Hospital Amistad Japón-Nicaragua de la ciudad de Granada en el periodo de Enero a Diciembre del 2016. El universo está constituido por todos los neonatos con sepsis neonatal temprana que se atendieron en la sala de neonatología del HAJN- Granada. En este caso correspondería a 30 Recién Nacidos que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. La información se obtuvo de los expedientes clínicos y se registró en una ficha de recolección de información. Los factores estudiados se distribuyeron por objetivos, evaluándose características sociodemográficas, factores preparto, periparto y neonatales. Entre los factores encontrados en el estudio que se asocian a sepsis neonatal temprana encontramos, dentro de las características maternas que la edad de predomino fue el grupo de 20-34 años, de la zona rural y con escolaridad primaria; así como la IVU y la cervicovaginitis. De igual manera dentro de los factores neonatales encontramos prevalencia del sexo masculino, asfixia neonatal, BPN y vía de nacimiento cesárea. Los datos fueron procesados en el programa de SPSS donde luego se procedió a realizar tablas y gráficos. Los resultados obtenidos se redactaron utilizando Word 2010 y para la elaboración de los gráficos se utilizó Excel 2010. Se concluyó que son muchos los factores asociados al neonato para sufrir sepsis neonatal temprana, los cuales en su mayoría son prevenibles. Se insta a reforzar las acciones de capacitación sistemática del personal de la salud del primer nivel de atención relacionadas con la identificación temprana de dichos factores tanto en la madre como en el producto a fin de contribuir a la reducción de la morbimortalidad neonatal.     An Overview of B-1 Cells as Antigen-Presenting Cells

    The role of B cells as antigen-presenting cells (APCs) has been extensively studied, mainly in relation to the activation of memory T cells. Considering the B cell subtypes, the role of B-1 cells as APCs is beginning to be explored. Initially, it was described that B-1 cells are activated preferentially by T-independent antigens. However, some reports demonstrated that these cells are also involved in a T-dependent response. The aim of this review is to summarize information about the ability of B-1 cells to play a role as APCs and to briefly discuss the role of the BCR and toll-like receptor signals in this process.     An economic order quantity stochastic dynamic optimization model in a logistic 4.0 environment

    This paper proposes a stock dynamic sizing optimization under the Logistic 4.0 environment. The safety stock is conceived to fill up the demand variability, providing continuous stock availability. Logistic 4.0 and the smart factory topics are considered. It focuses on vertical integration to implement flexible and reconfigurable smart production systems using the information system integration in order to optimize material flow in a 4.0 full-service approach. The proposed methodology aims to reduce the occurring stock-out events through a link among the wear-out items rate and the downstream logistic demand. The failure rate items trend is obtained through life-cycle state detection by a curve fitting technique. Therefore, the optimal safety stock size is calculated and then validated by an auto-tuning iterative modified algorithm. In this study, the reorder time has been optimized.
