Optimizing Service Differentiation Scheme with Sized-based Queue Management in DiffServ Networks

    Get PDF
In this paper we introduced Modified Sized-based Queue Management as a dropping scheme that aims to fairly prioritize and allocate more service to VoIP traffic over bulk data like FTP as the former one usually has small packet size with less impact to the network congestion. In the same time, we want to guarantee that this prioritization is fair enough for both traffic types. On the other hand we study the total link delay over the congestive link with the attempt to alleviate this congestion as much as possible at the by function of early congestion notification. Our M-SQM scheme has been evaluated with NS2 experiments to measure the packets received from both and total link-delay for different traffic. The performance evaluation results of M-SQM have been validated and graphically compared with the performance of other three legacy AQMs (RED, RIO, and PI). It is depicted that our M-SQM outperformed these AQMs in providing QoS level of service differentiation.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, 1 table, Submitted to Journal of Telecommunication

Global economic crisis in 2008 has increased the focus on the role of audit committee in ensuring integrity and transparency in corporate reporting. Audit committee characteristics are crucial in determining the ability of audit committee in carrying out its responsibilities effectively. Hence, this study aims to investigate the contribution of audit committee characteristics to audit committee effectiveness over corporate voluntary disclosure by Malaysian listed firms. This study also examines the effect of board of directors’ characteristics on the level of voluntary disclosure. In addition, this study investigates the moderating effect of corporate board governance and concentrated ownership with audit committee effectiveness and corporate voluntary disclosure. Based on annual reports of 2006 and 2009, the study used 292 firms listed on Bursa Malaysia. The empirical results reveal that higher proportion of independent directors on audit committee, and totally independent audit committee members can lead to significantly a higher level of voluntary disclosure. Further, members with accounting expertise and multiple directorships, and also the size of audit committee are significantly associated with corporate voluntary disclosure. Surprisingly, results on board of directors indicate that none of the board attributes appear to determine corporate voluntary disclosure. The results further reveal that neither board governance nor concentrated ownership moderate the association between audit committee effectiveness and the level of voluntary disclosure. The findings of this study show that audit committee characteristics enhance the effectiveness of audit committee as a monitoring role, and hence mitigating the agency problems associated with corporate disclosure practices. Policy makers and regulatory bodies should interpret this evidence as motivation for them to strengthen corporate boards’ practices to effectively deal with the unique features of corporate governance in emerging economies such as Malaysia

Test results of a Stirling engine utilizing heat exchanger modules with an integral heat pipe

    Get PDF
The Heat Pipe Stirling Engine (HP-1000), a free-piston Stirling engine incorporating three heat exchanger modules, each having a sodium filled heat pipe, has been tested at the NASA-Lewis Research Center as part of the Civil Space Technology Initiative (CSTI). The heat exchanger modules were designed to reduce the number of potential flow leak paths in the heat exchanger assembly and incorporate a heat pipe as the link between the heat source and the engine. An existing RE-1000 free-piston Stirling engine was modified to operate using the heat exchanger modules. This paper describes heat exchanger module and engine performance during baseline testing. Condenser temperature profiles, brake power, and efficiency are presented and discussed

The purpose of this research was 1) investigated the effect of additional probiotic from local microbial to blood description of layer, especially erythrocytes and hemoglobin; 2) investigated the level of optimalitation additional probiotic from local microbial of layer. The research was conducted on 20th of December 2014 until 19th of January 2015 in Varia Agung Jaya village, Seputih Mataram subdistrict, Lampung Tengah. The fabrication of probiotic from local mikrobial at 8th until 19th December 2014 in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Lampung University. This experiment arranged a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 probiotic levels of local microbes (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%) and 5 replications. The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance at 1% and continued with Polynom Orthogonal test at 1%. The result of this research showed that the additional of probiotic from local microbial (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%) was not significant effect (P>0,05) to the number of erythrocytes of layer, but highly significant effect (P <0,01) to the number of hemoglobin. Probiotic levels of local microbial (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%) can increase the number of hemoglobin with regression equality (Ŷ = 6,68 + 0,48X).

Exploring the relationships among service quality features, perceived value and customer satisfaction

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationships among service quality features (responsiveness, assurance, and empathy), perceived value and customer satisfaction in the context of Malaysia. The empirical data are drawn from 102 members of an academic staff of a Malaysian public institution of higher learning using a survey questionnaire. The results indicate three important findings: firstly, the interaction between perceived value and responsiveness was not significantly correlated with customer satisfaction. Secondly, the interaction between perceived value and assurance also did not correlate significantly with customer satisfaction. Thirdly, the interaction between perceived value and empathy correlated significantly with customer satisfaction. Thus the results demonstrate that perceived value had increased the effect of empathy on customer satisfaction, but it had not increased the effect of responsiveness and assurance on customer satisfaction. In sum, this study confirms that perceived value act as a partial moderating variable in the service quality models of the organizational sample. In addition, implications and limitations of this study, as well as directions for future research are discussed.Peer Reviewe

    Get PDF
Purpose.: To describe the intraoperative staining pattern of the internal limiting membrane (ILM)-specific dye Brilliant Blue G (BBG) in a cohort of patients with idiopathic macular holes; to analyze the associations of the staining pattern with pre- and postoperative variables and to correlate the staining pattern with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of the excised ILM. Methods.: Fifty-five consecutive patients were studied. The staining pattern was divided into three subtypes based on the intraoperative appearance. The presence of a narrow rim of nonstaining around the macular hole (MH) edge was noted and measured. In the final 21 patients, the excised ILM was examined with TEM. Results.: The pattern of staining observed was categorized as uniform in 33 patients (60%), patchy nonstaining in 17 (31%), and no visible staining in 5 (9%). The staining pattern correlated with the MH stage. In the patients with uniform or patchy staining, a nonstaining rim was observed in 26 (52%) of the 50. The presence of a rim was associated with a greater hole diameter and lower postoperative visual acuity. The stain pattern correlated significantly with the amount of cellular tissue on the vitreous side of the ILM on TEM, with a greater proportion of multicellular layer membranes and new collagen in the incomplete staining groups. Conclusions.: A variety of nonstaining patterns around macular holes can be observed using BBG, and these patterns correlate to the amount of cellular tissue on the vitreous side of the ILM seen histologically. These patterns could be used to guide the ILM peeling requirement or extent in future studies

In the recent virtual communication world, the email services play a vital role as a basic content of heterogeneous networking infrastructure. Whereby, multiple platforms are connecting each other. Mail Server refers to computer performing Mail Transfer Agent functions. MTA is software that delivers electronic mail messages from one computer to another, by using client-server application architecture. MTA implements both sender and receiver portions of SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). Postfix is a free and open-source MTA which is fast, easy-to-administrator and provide secure communication over Internet. In this paper we focus on the problem of email contents disclosure, and establish a secure mail server by using Postfix in Linux platform and then implement it into a cloud service provider as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). Security is provided by tuning a Transport Layer Security (TLS), and SMTP-AUTH which use Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) as a security mechanism and platform
