Full shell model calculation of the binding energies of the nuclei
Binding energies and other global properties of nuclei in the middle of the
shell, such as M1, E2 and Gamow-Teller sum rules, have been obtained using
a new Shell Model code (NATHAN) written in quasi-spin formalism and using a
-coupled basis. An extensive comparison is made with the recently
available Shell Model Monte Carlo results using the effective interaction KB3.
The binding energies for -nearly- all the nuclei are compared with
the measured (and extrapolated) results.Comment: 7 page
Evaluación de la peligrosidad sísmica en España para aplicaciones relacionadas con la seguridad nuclear. Resultados preliminares.
En este trabajo se presentan los avances realizados en el marco del proyecto “Evaluación de la Peligrosidad Sísmica en España para aplicaciones relacionadas con la seguridad nuclear” financiado por el Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear. La finalidad última del proyecto es ahondar en el conocimiento de la peligrosidad sísmica y de su incertidumbre en los emplazamientos de instalaciones críticas como instalaciones nucleares y almacenamientos de residuos radiactivos en nuestro país. Con ese propósito, una primera fase del proyecto está destinada a recopilar y estructurar toda la información generada en proyectos previos financiados por el CSN (DAÑOS, SIGMA, PRIOR, EXPEL y DATACIÓN) concerniente a estudio de fallas activas, análisis de paleosismicidad, catálogos sísmicos y de movimiento fuerte del suelo, etc.. Esta información está siendo integrada y unificada en una Base de Datos y en un Sistema de Información Geográfica. Paralelamente, el código informático desarrollado en el proyecto EXPEL está siendo actualizado para desarrollar cálculos de peligrosidad sísmica siguiendo la metodología PSHA de una forma eficiente, incluyendo formulación de un árbol lógico, cuantificación de incertidumbres epistémicas y aleatorias, análisis de sensibilidad de diferentes opciones en los resultados y desagregación. Los resultados preliminares del proyecto son presentados en esta comunicación, dando una orientación hacia futuros desarrollos y toma de decisiones relacionados con la seguridad nuclear
Effect of ultrasonication on microbial quality, colour, and ascorbic acid content of passion-fruit juice during storage
Passion fruit juice (PFJ) has a delicate flavour, very susceptible to thermal degradation. This study pursued to test the effect of sonication as non-thermal preservation method on some quality parameters of PFJ. The effect of ultrasound (20 kHz, 263 W, 89.25 μm) on the indigenous microflora, colour, pH, and ascorbic acid content of PFJ was studied. Firstly, the kinetic of microbial inactivation was determined for aerobic mesophilic bacteria and yeasts. Data was fitted to Weibull model, and a treatment time of 8 min was selected for stability studies. To this, untreated and sonicated juice was stored at 4 and 10 ºC up to 10 days and microbial quality, instrumental colour, pH, and ascorbic acid content were evaluated. In general, ultrasound kept juice microbiologically stable for up to 10 days at 4 ºC without markedly affecting other parameters evaluated. Genetic Algorithm in the Optimization of the Acoustic Attenuation System
[EN] It is well known that Genetic Algorithms (GA) is an optimization method which can be used in problems where the traditional optimization techniques are difficult to be applied. Sonic Crystals (SC) are periodic structures that present ranges of sound frequencies related with the periodicity of the structure, where the sound propagation is forbidden. This means that in the acoustic spectrum there are ranges of frequencies with high acoustic attenuation. This attenuation can be improved producing vacancies in the structure. In this paper we use a parallel implementation of a GA to optimize those structures, by means of the creation of vacancies in a starting SC, in order to obtain the best acoustic attenuation in a predetermined range of frequencies. The cost function used in GA is based on the Multiple Scattering Theory (MST), which is a self consistent method for calculating acoustic pressure in SCs. As a final result we achieve a quasi ordered structures that presents a high acoustic attenuation in a predetermined range of frequencies, independent of the periodicity of the SC.The authors acknowledge financial support provided by the Spanish MEC (Project No. MAT2006-03097) and by the Generalitat Valenciana (Spain) under Grant No. GV/2007/191. Theoretical analysis of the focusing of acoustic waves by two-dimensional sonic crystals
Motivated by a recent experiment on acoustic lenses, we perform numerical
calculations based on a multiple scattering technique to investigate the
focusing of acoustic waves with sonic crystals formed by rigid cylinders in
air. The focusing effects for crystals of various shapes are examined. The
dependance of the focusing length on the filling factor is also studied. It is
observed that both the shape and filling factor play a crucial role in
controlling the focusing. Furthermore, the robustness of the focusing against
disorders is studied. The results show that the sensitivity of the focusing
behavior depends on the strength of positional disorders. The theoretical
results compare favorably with the experimental observations, reported by
Cervera, et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 023902 (2002)).Comment: 8 figure
Off-limb (spicule) DEM distribution from SoHO/SUMER observations
In the present work we derive a Differential Emission Measure (DEM) dis-
tribution from a region dominated by spicules. We use spectral data from the
Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation (SUMER) spectrometer
on-board the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SoHO) covering the entire SUMER
wavelength range taken off-limb in the Northern polar coronal hole to construct
this DEM distribution using the CHIANTI atomic database. This distribution is
then used to study the thermal properties of the emission contributing to the
171 {\AA} channel in the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on-board the Solar
Dynamics Observatory (SDO). From our off-limb DEM we found that the radiance in
the AIA 171 {\AA} channel is dominated by emission from the Fe ix 171.07 {\AA}
line and has sparingly little contribution from other lines. The product of the
Fe ix 171.07 {\AA} line contribution function with the off-limb DEM was found
to have a maximum at logTmax (K) = 5.8 indicating that during spicule
observations the emission in this line comes from plasma at transition region
temperatures rather than coronal. For comparison, the same product with a quiet
Sun and prominence DEM were found to have a maximum at logT max (K) = 5.9 and
logTmax (K) = 5.7, respectively. We point out that the interpretation of data
obtained from the AIA 171 {\AA} filter should be done with foreknowledge of the
thermal nature of the observed phenomenon. For example, with an off-limb DEM we
find that only 3.6% of the plasma is above a million degrees, whereas using a
quiet Sun DEM, this contribution rises to 15%.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures accepted by Solar Physic

de tipo endocrino como la obesidad. El objetivo del estudio
es analizar la relación que existe entre el TDAH y la
obesidad. Es por ello que se realiza una revisión sistemática
de estudios científicos revelando relaciones y diferencias
entre ambos trastornos desde una mirada fisiológica,
cognoscitiva y comportamental. Se concluye que la relación
entre el TDAH y la obesidad se da por factores genéticos,
por variaciones dopaminérgicas, cambios en patrones
de sueño, desajustes emocionales y por alteraciones en la
regulación de la conducta; igualmente influyen factores
sociales relacionados con el cuidado en el embarazo y la

Imaging Spectroscopy of a White-Light Solar Flare
We report observations of a white-light solar flare (SOL2010-06-12T00:57,
M2.0) observed by the Helioseismic Magnetic Imager (HMI) on the Solar Dynamics
Observatory (SDO) and the Reuven Ramaty High-Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager
(RHESSI). The HMI data give us the first space-based high-resolution imaging
spectroscopy of a white-light flare, including continuum, Doppler, and magnetic
signatures for the photospheric FeI line at 6173.34{\AA} and its neighboring
continuum. In the impulsive phase of the flare, a bright white-light kernel
appears in each of the two magnetic footpoints. When the flare occurred, the
spectral coverage of the HMI filtergrams (six equidistant samples spanning
\pm172m{\AA} around nominal line center) encompassed the line core and the blue
continuum sufficiently far from the core to eliminate significant Doppler
crosstalk in the latter, which is otherwise a possibility for the extreme
conditions in a white-light flare. RHESSI obtained complete hard X-ray and
\Upsilon-ray spectra (this was the first \Upsilon-ray flare of Cycle 24). The
FeI line appears to be shifted to the blue during the flare but does not go
into emission; the contrast is nearly constant across the line profile. We did
not detect a seismic wave from this event. The HMI data suggest stepwise
