The perception of portuguese accountants on the impact of the implementation of E-Accounting with SAFT-PT

    No full text
The researchers proceed with a quantitative approach resulting from a questionnaire addressed to Portuguese accountants in order to know their perceptions on the impact of adopting e-accounting to understand if they perceive it as a threat or as an opportunity for this profession. The authors found that respondents mostly believe that the level of dependency between accounting and taxation is medium, but that will sharply increase with the introduction of the e-accounting. The researchers found that most accountants perceive the implementation of e-accounting as a mix between problem and opportunity, whose main obstacle to implementation is, from the respondents’ perspective, the inability of clients and employers to collaborate with this process. Additionally, data suggest that professional experience of the accountants, the development of the activity in accounting office or by other form, and finally, being certified accountants or accounting technicians are variables with impact on respondents’ perceptions in this context.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Environmental and social derterminants of the levels of teenag e physical activity: the use of gis methodologies. Nowadays, the fact that Physical Activity (PA) plays a fundamental role in improving health and well‑being is well known. Nevertheless in modern society, lifestyles are becoming ever more sedentary, which contributes to an increase in the risk of developing a plethora of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, CVD, hypertension, some types of cancer, muscular‑skeletal diseases and obesity, among others. PA and dieting are habits that are shaped from an early age; thus behaviour as children and adolescents may determine adulthood PA Levels (PAL). There is scientific evidenceto suggest that the urban environment may influence the level of physical activity of the population, proving that some characteristics are associated with active transport or with the development of leisure activities. Despite the evidence, few studies outside the USA and Australia have been performed on objectively measured environmental features and PAL. It is important to identify which variables are more likely to influence adolescent PAL, especially in urban spaces, in order to promote healthier environments and healthier people

Modelling, simulation, and analysis for enterprise architecture

    No full text
Modern organizations need to address increasingly complex challenges including how to represent and maintain their business goals using technologies and IT platforms that change on a regular basis. This has led to the development of modelling notations for expressing various aspects of an organization with a view to reducing complexity, increasing technology independence, and supporting analysis. Many of these Enterprise Architecture (EA) modelling notations provide a large number of concepts that support the business analysis but lack precise definitions necessary to perform computer-supported organizational analysis. This chapter reviews the current EA modelling landscape and proposes a simple language for the practical support of EA simulation including business alignment in terms of executing a collection of goals against prototype execution

Intention-based decision making via intention recognition and its applications

    No full text
In this chapter we present an intention-based decision making system. We exhibit a coherent combination of two Logic Programming based implemented systems, Evolution Prospection and Intention Recognition. The Evolution Prospection system has proven to be a powerful system for decision making, designing and implementing several kinds of preferences and useful environment-triggering constructs. It is here enhanced with an ability to recognize intentions of other agents—an important aspect not well explored so far. The usage and usefulness of the combined system are illustrated with several extended examples in different application domains, including Moral Reasoning, Ambient Intelligence, Elder Care, and Game Theory

Novel frontiers of dedicated molecular imaging in breast cancer diagnosis

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In the last years, the contribution of nuclear medicine has grown based on the use of dedicated molecular breast devices for diagnosis and biopsy. Recent technical improvements have been achieved in order to increase the detection of smaller breast lesions using lower doses of radiotracers as well as to facilitate accurate biopsy sampling. Furthermore, new prototypes have been developed combining anatomic and functional imaging. Although the gamma-emitting 99mTc-sestamibi (99mTc-MIBI) and the positron-emitting 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) are the most widely used radiotracers, several new tracers have been investigated to target more specific biologic features of BC like proliferation, angiogenesis and tumour receptor status. Dedicated molecular breast devices have been introduced as an adjunct imaging tool to mammography (MG) and ultrasound (US) in the clinical work-up for BC. Additionally, due to the increased interest in molecular tumour subtype analysis and ribonucleic acid (RNA)-based gene expression profiling tests in the routine clinical practice, a possible new clinical application of dedicated breast imaging concerns locally advanced BC, principally in order to visualise intra-tumour metabolic heterogeneity enabling selection of areas with highest tracer uptake (vital tissue) for core needle biopsy. Hence, it will be possible to more adequately tailor the individual treatment, also enabling therapy response monitoring. This review evaluates the current and future perspectives as well as the shortcomings of breast imaging using dedicated nuclear medicine devices
