P-parity of charmed particles from associative photoproduction of D and D^*-mesons

We suggest to measure the triple polarization correlations in the exclusive associative charm particle photoproduction, vector gamma + vector p --> vector Lambda_c^{++} bar{D^0} with linearly polarized photons, as a method to determine the P-parity of the charmed D-meson. The dependence of these correlations on the parity P(N Lambda_c D) can be predicted in model independent way. The t-dependence of the differential cross section for vector meson photoproduction, gamma + p --> Lambda_c^{++} bar{D^{*0}}, in a model based on D-exchange, is also sensitive to P(N Lambda_c D).Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

Polarization phenomena in open charm photoproduction processes

We analyze polarization effects in associative photoproduction of pseudoscalar (Dˉ\bar{D}) charmed mesons in exclusive processes γ+NYc+Dˉ\gamma+ N\to Y_c +\bar{D}, Yc=Λc+Y_c=\Lambda_c^+, Σc\Sigma_c. Circularly polarized photons induce nonzero polarization of the YcY_c-hyperon with xx- and zz-components (in the reaction plane) and non vanishing asymmetries Ax{\cal A}_x and Az{\cal A}_z for polarized nucleon target. These polarization observables can be predicted in model-independent way for exclusive Dˉ\bar{D}-production processes in collinear kinematics. The T-even YcY_c-polarization and asymmetries for non-collinear kinematics can be calculated in framework of an effective Lagrangian approach. The depolarization coefficients DabD_{ab}, characterizing the dependence of the YcY_c-polarization on the nucleon polarization are also calculated.Comment: 36 pages 13 figure

The complete experiment for eNe^{\mp}N elastic scattering in presence of two-photon exchange

We propose possible methods to measure the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in presence of two-photon exchange. Using a general parametrization of the spin structure of the matrix element for elastic eNeN-scattering, in terms of three independent complex amplitudes, we show that the measurements of the differential cross section for electron and positron nucleon elastic scattering, in the same kinematical conditions, allows to extract the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. The same is correct for the polarization method, with the measurement of the Px,zP_{x,z} components of the final nucleon polarization (for the scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons and positrons). An alternative way, in absence of positron beam, is to measure a definite set of T-odd polarization observables, which includes three different experiments or only T-even observables, with five independent experiments. In both cases, the ratio GE(Q2)/GM(Q2)G_E(Q^2)/G_M(Q^2) is related to quantities of the order of α\alpha, which requires different polarization experiments of very high accuracy.Comment: 11 pages v2: additional formulas, small correction

Considerations on rescattering effects for threshold photo- and electro-production of π0\pi^0 on deuteron

We show that for the S-state π0\pi^0-production in processes γ+dd+π0\gamma+d\to d+\pi^0 and e+de+d+π0e^-+d\to e^-+d+\pi^0 the rescattering effects due to the transition: γ+dp+p+π \gamma+d\to p+p+\pi^- (or n+n+π+)d+π0n+n+\pi^+)\to d+\pi^0 are cancelled out due to the Pauli principle. The large values for these effects predicted in the past may result from the fact that the spin structure of the corresponding matrix element and the necessary antisymmetrization induced by the presence of identical protons (or neutrons) in the intermediate state was not taken into account accurately. One of the important consequences of these considerations is that π0\pi^0 photo- and electro-production on deuteron near threshold can bring direct information about elementary neutron amplitudes.Comment: Add a new sectio

Neutral weak currents in pion electroproduction on the nucleon

Parity violating asymmetry in inclusive scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons by unpolarized protons with π0\pi^0 or π+\pi^+ meson production, is calculated as a function of the momentum transfer squared Q2Q^2 and the total energy WW of the πN\pi N-system. This asymmetry, which is induced by the interference of the one-photon exchange amplitude with the parity-odd part of the Z0Z^0-exchange amplitude, is calculated for the γ(Z)+pN+π\gamma^*(Z^*)+p\to N+\pi processes (γ\gamma^* is a virtual photon and ZZ^* a virtual Z-boson) considering the Δ\Delta-contribution in the ss-channel, the standard Born contributions and vector meson (ρ\rho and ω\omega) exchanges in the tt-channel. Taking into account the known isotopic properties of the hadron electromagnetic and neutral currents, we show that the P-odd term is the sum of two contributions. The main term is model independent and it can be calculated exactly in terms of fundamental constants. It is found to be linear in Q2Q^2. The second term is a relatively small correction which is determined by the isoscalar component of the electromagnetic current. Near threshold and in the Δ\Delta-region, this isoscalar part is much smaller (in absolute value) than the isovector one: its contribution to the asymmetry depend on the polarization state (longitudinal or transverse) of the virtual photon.Comment: 30 pages 9 figure

    The reaction Δ+NN+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi in ion-ion collisions

We study the threshold ϕ\phi-meson production in the process Δ+NN+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi, which appears as a possible important mechanism in high energy nuclei-nuclei collisions. The isotopic invariance of the strong interaction and the selection rules due to P-parity and total angular momentum result in a general and model independent parametrization of the spin structure of the matrix element in terms of three partial amplitudes. In the framework of one-pion exchange model these amplitudes can be derived in terms of the two threshold partial amplitudes for the process π+NN+ϕ\pi+N\to N+\phi. We predict the ratio of cross sections for ϕ\phi-meson production in pppp- and ΔN\Delta N-collisions and the polarization properties of the ϕ\phi-meson, in Δ+NN+N+ϕ\Delta+N\to N+N+\phi, as a function of a single parameter, which characterizes the relative role of transversal and longitudinal ϕ\phi-meson polarizations in the process π+NN+ϕ\pi+N\to N+\phi.Comment: 10 pages 3 figure

Two-Boson Exchange Physics: A Brief Review

Current status of the two-boson exchange contributions to elastic electron-proton scattering, both for parity conserving and parity-violating, is briefly reviewed. How the discrepancy in the extraction of elastic nucleon form factors between unpolarized Rosenbluth and polarization transfer experiments can be understood, in large part, by the two-photon exchange corrections is discussed. We also illustrate how the measurement of the ratio between positron-proton and electron-proton scattering can be used to differentiate different models of two-photon exchange. For the parity-violating electron-proton scattering, the interest is on how the two-boson exchange (TBE), \gamma Z-exchange in particular, could affect the extraction of the long-sought strangeness form factors. Various calculations all indicate that the magnitudes of effect of TBE on the extraction of strangeness form factors is small, though can be large percentage-wise in certain kinematics.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, prepared for Proceedings of the fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics (APFB2011), Seoul, Korea, August 22-26, 2011, to appear in Few-Body Systems, November 201

Threshold neutral pion photoproduction off the tri-nucleon to O(q^4)

    Get PDF
We calculate electromagnetic neutral pion production off tri-nucleon bound states (3H, 3He) at threshold in chiral nuclear effective field theory to fourth order in the standard heavy baryon counting. We show that the fourth order two-nucleon corrections to the S-wave multipoles at threshold are very small. This implies that a precise measurement of the S-wave cross section for neutral pion production off 3He allows for a stringent test of the chiral perturbation theory prediction for the S-wave electric multipole E_{0+}^{pi0 n}.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, title changed, final version to appear in EPJA. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1103.340

    Today's View on Strangeness

There are several different experimental indications, such as the pion-nucleon sigma term and polarized deep-inelastic scattering, which suggest that the nucleon wave function contains a hidden s bar s component. This is expected in chiral soliton models, which also predicted the existence of new exotic baryons that may recently have been observed. Another hint of hidden strangeness in the nucleon is provided by copious phi production in various N bar N annihilation channels, which may be due to evasions of the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule. One way to probe the possible polarization of hidden s bar s pairs in the nucleon may be via Lambda polarization in deep-inelastic scattering.Comment: 8 pages LaTeX, 10 figures, to appear in the Proceedings of the International Conference on Parity Violation and Hadronic Structure, Grenoble, June 200

    Higher meson resonances in ρπ0π0γ\rho \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma and ωπ0π0γ\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma

The role of higher meson resonances with spin 1 and 2 is investigated quantitatively in the decay processes of ρπ0π0γ\rho \to \pi^0\pi^0 \gamma and ωπ0π0γ\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma. Among the higher resonances, we find that the f2(1270)f_2(1270) tensor meson can give a nontrivial contribution especially to the ωπ0π0γ\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma decay process. When the f2f_2 contribution is combined with the processes involving the vector and scalar meson intermediate states, a good agreement with the recent measurements is achieved for both decays. The effect of the f2(1270)f_2(1270) is found to be sizable at the intermediate photon energies and may be verified by precise measurements of the recoil photon spectrum of the ωπ0π0γ\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma decay. The dependence of the decay widths on various models for the ρ\rho-ω\omega mixing in the literature is also investigated.Comment: 16 pages, REVTeX, 6 figures, revised version, to appear in Phys. Rev.
