Generalized uncertainty principle and correction value to the black hole entropy
Recently, there has been much attention devoted to resolving the quantum
corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole. In particular,
many researchers have expressed a vested interest in the coefficient of the
logarithmic term of the black hole entropy correction term. In this paper, we
calculate the correction value of the black hole entropy by utilizing the
generalized uncertainty principle and obtain the correction term caused by the
generalized uncertainty principle. Because in our calculation we think that the
Bekenstein-Hawking area theorem is still valid after considering the
generalized uncertainty principle, we derive that the coefficient of the
logarithmic term of the black hole entropy correction term is negative. This
result is different from the known result at present. Our method is valid not
only for single horizon spacetime but also for double horizons spacetime. In
the whole process, the physics idea is clear and calculation is simple. It
offers a new way for studying the condition that Bekenstein-Hawking area
theorem is valid
Measurements of Heavy Flavor and Di-electron Production at STAR
Heavy quarks are produced early in the relativistic heavy ion collisions, and
provide an excellent probe into the hot and dense nuclear matter created at
RHIC. In these proceedings, we will discuss recent STAR measurements of heavy
flavor production, to investigate the heavy quark interaction with the medium.
Electromagnetic probes, such as electrons, provide information on the various
stages of the medium evolution without modification by final stage
interactions. Di-electron production measurements by STAR will also be
discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, proceedings for CPOD201
Approximate Solution of the effective mass Klein-Gordon Equation for the Hulthen Potential with any Angular Momentum
The radial part of the effective mass Klein-Gordon equation for the Hulthen
potential is solved by making an approximation to the centrifugal potential.
The Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used in the calculations. Energy spectra and the
corresponding eigenfunctions are computed. Results are also given for the case
of constant mass.Comment: 12 page
Stresses induced by a demolition agent in non-explosive rock fracturing
Stresses induced by a demolition agent in non-explosive rock fracturing was analysed using the theory of elasticity and the thick-walled cylinder principle. Circumferential and radial stresses in rock induced by an internally pressurized hole was first analysed under plane strain condition. Stresses perpendicular to the line connecting two adjacent holes were calculated based on coordinate transformation. A parametric study was carried out to investigate the influence of spacing and size of hole on the stress distribution. The analytical model provides a method to determine the optimum hole spacing and size as well as the time needed for fracturing rocks with properties similar to those employed to determine the pressure-time function of the demolition agent. It is found that tensile stress decreased dramatically with the increasing of hole spacing, while it increased with increment of hole size but the influence of spacing on stress changes was more significant than that of hole size. It is also concluded from the study that tensile stress in the middle of two holes decreased dramatically with a logarithmic distribution when solely increasing hole spacing. As can be anticipated more time is required for rock fracturing and breaking when hole spacing is increased for both soft and hard rocks
Ultrahigh sensitivity of slow-light gyroscope
Slow light generated by Electromagnetically Induced Transparency is extremely
susceptible with respect to Doppler detuning. Consequently, slow-light
gyroscopes should have ultrahigh sensitivity
Improving the color yield of ink-jet printing on cationized cotton
This study examines the performance of digital ink-jet printing on cationized cotton treated with polyepichlorohydrin-dimethylamine (PECH-amine). The results show that the color yield of ink-jet printing with reactive inks on cationic modified cotton is much greater than that on untreated cotton. The effect on the increase of color yield by cationic modification is greater than that by preparation with alkali, urea, and thickener. The reason for this is that introducing positively charged sites increases dye uptake and dye fixation on cationized cotton. The results also show that cationic modification with PECH-amine decreases the rub fastness but increases the wash fastness of the treated cotton. <br /
Combining visual and textual systems within the context of user feedback
It has been proven experimentally, that a combination of textual and visual representations can improve the retrieval performance ([20], [23]). It is due to the fact, that the textual and visual feature spaces often represent complementary yet correlated aspects of the same image, thus forming a composite system.
In this paper, we present a model for the combination of visual and textual sub-systems within the user feedback context. The model was inspired by the measurement utilized in quantum mechanics (QM) and the tensor product of co-occurrence (density) matrices, which represents a density matrix of the composite system in QM. It provides a sound and natural framework to seamlessly integrate multiple feature spaces by considering them as a composite system, as well as a new way of measuring the relevance of an image with respect to a context. The proposed approach takes into account both intra (via co-occurrence matrices) and inter (via tensor operator) relationships between features’ dimensions. It is also computationally cheap and scalable to large data collections. We test our approach on ImageCLEF2007photo data collection and present interesting findings
Magnetic moments of antidecuplet pentaquarks
We analyze the magnetic moment of the exotic pentaquarks of the flavor
antidecuplet in the constituent quark model for the case in which the ground
state is in an orbital L(p)=0(+) or a L(p)=1(-) state. We derive sum rules for
the magnetic moments. The magnetic moment of the Theta(1540) is found to be
0.38, 0.09 and 1.05 mu_N for J(p)=1/2(-), 1/2(+) and 3/2(+), respectively,
which is compared with the results obtained in other approaches.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, 3 tables. Revised version, extended introduction

Vector meson production and nucleon resonance analysis in a coupled-channel approach for energies m_N < sqrt(s) < 2 GeV II: photon-induced results
We present a nucleon resonance analysis by simultaneously considering all
pion- and photon-induced experimental data on the final states gamma N, pi N, 2
pi N, eta N, K Lambda, K Sigma, and omega N for energies from the nucleon mass
up to sqrt(s) = 2 GeV. In this analysis we find strong evidence for the
resonances P_{31}(1750), P_{13}(1900), P_{33}(1920), and D_{13}(1950). The
omega N production mechanism is dominated by large P_{11}(1710) and
P_{13}(1900) contributions. In this second part we present the results on the
photoproduction reactions and the electromagnetic properties of the resonances.
The inclusion of all important final states up to sqrt(s) = 2 GeV allows for
estimates on the importance of the individual states for the GDH sum rule.Comment: 41 pages, 26 figures, discussion extended, typos corrected,

Comprehensive mechanism of gene silencing and its role in plant growth and development
Gene silencing is a negative feedback mechanism that regulates gene expression to define cell fate and also regulates metabolism and gene expression throughout the life of an organism. In plants, gene silencing occurs via transcriptional gene silencing (TGS) and post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS). TGS obscures transcription via the methylation of 5′ untranslated region (5′UTR), whereas PTGS causes the methylation of a coding region to result in transcript degradation. In this review, we summarized the history and molecular mechanisms of gene silencing and underlined its specific role in plant growth and crop production
