Bethe-Salpeter bound-state structure in Minkowski space
The quantitative investigation of the scalar Bethe-Salpeter equation in
Minkowski space, within the ladder-approximation framework, is extended to
include the excited states. This study has been carried out for an interacting
system composed by two massive bosons exchanging a massive scalar, by adopting
(i) the Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, and
(ii) the formally exact projection onto the null plane. Our analysis, on one
hand, confirms the reliability of the method already applied to the ground
state and, on the other one, extends the investigation from the valence
distribution in momentum space to the corresponding quantity in the
impact-parameter space, pointing out some relevant features, like (i) the
equivalence between Minkowski and Euclidean transverse-momentum amplitudes, and
(ii) the leading exponential fall-off of the valence wave function in the
impact-parameter space.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figure

Local mapping of dissipative vortex motion
We explore, with unprecedented single vortex resolution, the dissipation and
motion of vortices in a superconducting ribbon under the influence of an
external alternating magnetic field. This is achieved by combing the phase
sensitive character of ac-susceptibility, allowing to distinguish between the
inductive-and dissipative response, with the local power of scanning Hall probe
microscopy. Whereas the induced reversible screening currents contribute only
inductively, the vortices do leave a fingerprint in the out-of-phase component.
The observed large phase-lag demonstrates the dissipation of vortices at
timescales comparable to the period of the driving force (i.e. 13 ms). These
results indicate the presence of slow microscopic loss mechanisms mediated by
thermally activated hopping transport of vortices between metastable states.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
The influence of permeability through bacterial porins in whole-cell compound accumulation
The lack of new drugs for Gram-negative pathogens is a global threat to modern medicine. The complexity of their cell envelope, with an additional outer membrane, hinders internal accumulation and thus, the access of molecules to their targets. Our limited understanding of the molecular basis for compound influx and efflux from these pathogens is a major bottleneck for the discovery of effective antibacterial compounds. Here we analyse the correlation between the whole-cell compound accumulation of ~200 molecules and their predicted porin permeability coefficient (influx), using a recently developed scoring function. We found a strong linear relationship (74%) between the two, confirming porins key in compound uptake in Gram-negative bacteria. The analysis of this unique dataset aids to better understand the molecular descriptors behind whole-cell accumulation and molecular uptake in Gram-negative bacteria
Some remarks on the hyperelliptic moduli of genus 3
In 1967, Shioda \cite{Shi1} determined the ring of invariants of binary
octavics and their syzygies using the symbolic method. We discover that the
syzygies determined in \cite{Shi1} are incorrect. In this paper, we compute the
correct equations among the invariants of the binary octavics and give
necessary and sufficient conditions for two genus 3 hyperelliptic curves to be
isomorphic over an algebraically closed field , . For
the first time, an explicit equation of the hyperelliptic moduli for genus 3 is
computed in terms of absolute invariants.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1209.044

A Systematic Study of Projection Biases in Weak Lensing Analysis
We present a systematic study of projection biases in the weak lensing
analysis of the first year of data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES)
experiment. In the analysis we used a CDM model and three two-point
correlation functions. We show that these biases are a consequence of
projecting, or marginalizing, over parameters like , , and
that are both poorly constrained and correlated with the
parameters of interest like , and . Covering the
relevant parameter space we show that the projection biases are a function of
where the true values of the poorly constrained parameters lie with respect to
the parameter priors. For example, biases in the position of the posteriors can
exceed the 1.5 level if the true values of and are close to
the top of the prior's range and the true values of and are close to the bottom of the range of their priors. We also show that in
some cases the 1D credible intervals can be over-specified by as much as 30%
and coverage can be as low as 27%. Finally we estimate these projection biases
for the analysis of three and six years worth of DES data
