Assessing Social Welfare Department service delivery system towards vulnerable and disadvantages group in Malaysia: case study of Perak
This paper attempts to evaluate service delivery of the Welfare Department in Perak Malaysia offered to the vulnerable groups in achieving good governance and social sustainability. Improving the quality of government delivery system is challenging, but effective delivery systems are crucial in achieving the people’s satisfaction level. This study applied a face to face semi-structured questionnaire survey to 250 respondents from varies category of vulnerable and disadvantaged group within Perak. This research identified there is a relationship between service delivery system performed by government agencies and the quality of life of the respondents in the context of social sustainability for human security. The findings from this research will offer several recommendations in improving the government delivery system in Perak
Review on effect of repetitive rework on dissimilar austenistic stainless steel pipes by using GMAW orbital welding
Dissimilar metal welding is widely applied to meet the rquirement of transition in
mechanical properties and/or difference in working conditions. For instance, even though AISI 304
and AISI 316L are both belong to austenitic stainless steels, but they are applied in different working
environment. AISI 304 is used at high temperature applications, whereas AISI 316L is used at low
temperature. Repair welding is able to return a part back to its normal service life if weld failure
happened due to service deterioration or defects during fabrication stage. However, repetitive heat
input due to repair welding will cause changes in welded structure and properties. In this article, the
effect of repetitive repair welding of dissimilar austenitic stainless steel pipes to the microhardness,
tensile strength, microstructure and quality of the weldment has been reviewed
Effect of Nenas honey supplementation on the oxidative status of undergraduate students
Honey is a dietary antioxidant as it contains phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids and phenolic acids. Antioxidants are non-nutritive, biologically active ingredients in food that reduce oxidative stress. The antioxidant content in each type of honey varies depending on its source. This study was aimed to determine the effect of Nenas honey supplementation on the oxidative status of a group of healthy medical students. They were divided into two groups; control (n=10) and supplemented (n=13), where 1 tablespoon of Nenas honey was given each day. Blood sampling was done at baseline, 1st and 2nd month of the study for determination of DNA damage and antioxidant enzyme activities, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidise (GPx), and catalase (CAT). Results showed that Nenas honey increased the level of DNA damage at the 1st month but reduced it significantly at the 2nd month as compared to control. GPx and CAT activities also decreased significantly with honey supplementation throughout the study, though no changes were observed in SOD activity. Fasting glucose levels remained within the normal range with honey supplementation. In conclusion, Nenas honey decreases oxidative stress which leads to a reduction of antioxidant enzyme activities in the body
Government delivery system: the effectiveness of local authorities in Perak, Malaysia
This paper evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery performed by local authorities in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Local authorities‟ performances are important in giving positive public perception to the overall government structure. In developing countries, improving the quality of government delivery system is quite challenging, but effective delivery systems are
crucial in achieving the people‟s satisfaction level. A total of 250 respondents in selected 10 local authorities participated in the questionnaires survey. The survey was to assess the level of performances performed by Local Authorities in Perak. Several recommendations proposed to strengthen local authorities‟ performances and improved public satisfaction level
Living Heritage Village of Kampung Morten Melaka: Local Community Involvement in Tourism
Community-based Tourism (CBT) involves high community participation at the highest level of decision-making processes, to economic involvement and the giving opinion of the lowest level goal. The purpose of this study is to explore the local community participation in the tourism activities in Kampung Morten, Melaka. The questionnaire survey was conducted using a simple random sampling method among 152 respondents and the results were analysed using crosstabulation analysis. The main findings are the majority of respondents participated in tourism activities and deliberation in tourism activities. Less number of respondents were giving opinions on tourism development and plans. This study is benefitable to the tourism stakeholders to ensure the relevancy of communities staying in living heritage villages to contribute to the domestic tourism industry
The Effect of Edm Die-sinking Parameters on Material Removal Rate of Beryllium Copper Using Full Factorial Method
The effect of electrical discharge machining (EDM) die-sinking parameters on material removal rate
(MRR) of Beryllium Copper (BeCu) was studied. EDM die-sinking is one of the important non-traditional
machining processes and it is widely accepted as a standard machining process in the manufacturing of forming
tools to produce mould and die. The appropriate parameters were selected to study the influence of
operating parameters of BeCu on MRR. Electrolytic copper was selected as electrode with positive polarity.
The experiment was done using SODICK AQ35L EDM machine. Two level approach of full factorial design of
experiment was applied to design the experimental and the data was analyzed by using analysis of variance
(ANOVA) and the optimal combinations of the process parameters were predicted. It is found that peak current
was the most significant factor affecting the MRR. Further, pulse on time and pulse off time must be combined
with other factors in order to influence the machining characteristics. Finally, machine voltage shows less
significant factor for the EDM die-sinking process on BeCu

Social regeneration through physical facilities provided to the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups
Social equality incorporates the concept of social sustainability in urban regeneration process into its definition. Taking cognizance of the importance of barrier free environment towards social equality and equal opportunity for all, especially to the disabled and vulnerable groups within the society, has been an active gesture in the urban regeneration process. Therefore, this research is to analyse current facilities provided for vulnerable and disadvantaged group as part of achieving social sustainability through inclusive environment. The findings from this
research obtained from on-site observation and interview and aims to improve the government delivery system in Perak, a state in Malaysi
