A systematic review of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health in the West Midlands region of the UK compared to published UK research
It is estimated that approximately 3-8% of the UK population identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans (LGBT). Until now, most health research on gay and bisexual men has been around HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases and for trans people has been on the transitioning process only. However, it has been apparent to the LGBT community that that there are a wide variety of other physical and mental health issues that are also important and that the proportion of gay and bisexual men who have HIV/AIDS is relatively small. Very little general LGBT health research has been published so far and there are very few health services that specifically address the general health concerns of the LGBT community. This systematic review presents all available research conducted in the West Midlands on LGBT health since 2000. Local health research is compared to UK national, peer reviewed and published LGBT health research in order to determine whether the local results are unusual compared to national LGBT data, and to routinely collected data on the UK population, where appropriate, in order to determine whether and where the LGBT population differ from the general population. Only UK research has been included because there was no previous UK specific
systematic review so it was unclear how generalisable foreign research would be to the UK

Boundary layer transition
The boundary layer stability, its active control by sound and surface heating and the effect of curvature are studied numerically and experimentally for subsonic flow. In addition, the experimental and flight test data are correlated using the stability theory for supersonic Mach numbers. Active transition fixing and feedback control of boundary layer by sound interactions are experimentally investigated at low speed over an airfoil. Numerical simulation of active control by surface heating and cooling in air shows that by appropriate phase adjustment a reduction in the level of perturbation can be obtained. This simulation is based on the solution of two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations for a flat plate. Goertler vortices are studied experimentally on an airfoil in the Low Turbulence Pressure Tunnel (LTPT). The flow pattern was visualized using the sublimating chemical technique and data were obtained using a three component laser velocimeter. The effect of curvature on swept leading-edge stability on a cylinder was numerically studied. The results suggest that transition is dominated by traveling disturbance waves and that the waves with the greatest total amplification has an amplitude ratio of e sup 11. How to design and evaluate interventions to improve outcomes for patients with multimorbidity
Multimorbidity is a major challenge for patients and healthcare providers. The limited evidence of the effectiveness of interventions for people with multimorbidity means that there is a need for much more research and trials of potential interventions. Here we present a consensus view from a group of international researchers working to improve care for people with multimorbidity to guide future studies of interventions. We suggest that there is a need for careful consideration of whom to include, how to target interventions that address specific problems and that do not add to treatment burden, and selecting outcomes that matter both to patients and the healthcare system. Innovative design of these interventions will be necessary as many will be introduced in service settings and it will be important to ensure methodological rigour, relevance to service delivery, and generalizability across healthcare systems
Ground-based photometry of the 21-day Neptune HD106315c
Space-based transit surveys such as K2 and TESS allow the detection of small
transiting planets with orbital periods beyond 10 days. Few of these warm
Neptunes are currently known around stars bright enough to allow for detailed
follow-up observations dedicated to their atmospheric characterization. The
21-day period and 3.95 planet HD106315c has been discovered based on
the observation of two of its transits by K2. We have observed HD106315 using
the 1.2m Euler telescope equipped with the EulerCam camera on two instances to
confirm the transit using broad band photometry and refine the planetary
period. Based on two observed transits of HD106315c, we detect its 1 mmag
transit and obtain a precise measurement of the planetary ephemerids, which are
critical for planning further follow-up observations. We have used the attained
precision together with the predicted yield from the TESS mission to evaluate
the potential for ground-based confirmation of Neptune-sized planets found by
TESS. We find that 1-meter-class telescopes on the ground equipped with precise
photometers could substantially contribute to the follow-up of 162 TESS
candidates orbiting stars with magnitudes of . Out of these, 74
planets orbit stars with and 12 planets orbit , which
makes these candidates high-priority objects for atmospheric characterization

Accurately predicting the escape fraction of ionizing photons using restframe ultraviolet absorption lines
The fraction of ionizing photons that escape high-redshift galaxies
sensitively determines whether galaxies reionized the early universe. However,
this escape fraction cannot be measured from high-redshift galaxies because the
opacity of the intergalactic medium is large at high redshifts. Without methods
to indirectly measure the escape fraction of high-redshift galaxies, it is
unlikely that we will know what reionized the universe. Here, we analyze the
far-ultraviolet (UV) H I (Lyman series) and low-ionization metal absorption
lines of nine low-redshift, confirmed Lyman continuum emitting galaxies. We use
the H I covering fractions, column densities, and dust attenuations measured in
a companion paper to predict the escape fraction of ionizing photons. We find
good agreement between the predicted and observed Lyman continuum escape
fractions (within ) using both the H I and ISM absorption lines. The
ionizing photons escape through holes in the H I, but we show that dust
attenuation reduces the fraction of photons that escape galaxies. This means
that the average high-redshift galaxy likely emits more ionizing photons than
low-redshift galaxies. Two other indirect methods accurately predict the escape
fractions: the Ly escape fraction and the optical [O III]/[O II] flux
ratio. We use these indirect methods to predict the escape fraction of a sample
of 21 galaxies with rest-frame UV spectra but without Lyman continuum
observations. Many of these galaxies have low escape fractions (\%), but 11 have escape fractions \%. The methods presented here will
measure the escape fractions of high-redshift galaxies, enabling future
telescopes to determine whether star-forming galaxies reionized the early

Sex differences in eye gaze and symbolic cueing of attention
Observing a face with averted eyes results in a reflexive shift of attention to the gazed-at location. Here we present results that show that this effect is weaker in males than in females (Experiment 1). This result is predicted by the ‘extreme male brain’ theory of autism (Baron-Cohen, 2003), which suggests that males in the normal population should display more autism-like traits than females (e.g., poor joint attention). Indeed, participants′ scores on the Autism-Spectrum Quotient (Baron-Cohen, Wheelwright, Stott, Bolton, & Goodyear, 2001) negatively correlated with cueing magnitude. Furthermore, exogenous orienting did not differ between the sexes in two peripheral cueing experiments (Experiments 2a and 2b). However, a final experiment showed that using non-predictive arrows instead of eyes as a central cue also revealed a large gender difference. This demonstrates that reduced orienting from central cues in males generalizes beyond gaze cues. These results show that while peripheral cueing is equivalent in the male and female brains, the attention systems of the two sexes treat noninformative symbolic cues very differently

SPT-GMOS: A Gemini/GMOS-South Spectroscopic Survey of Galaxy Clusters in the SPT-SZ Survey
We present the results of SPT-GMOS, a spectroscopic survey with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) on Gemini South. The targets of SPT-GMOS are galaxy clusters identified in the SPT-SZ survey, a millimeter-wave survey of 2500 deg^2 of the southern sky using the South Pole Telescope (SPT). Multi-object spectroscopic observations of 62 SPT-selected galaxy clusters were performed between 2011 January and 2015 December, yielding spectra with radial velocity measurements for 2595 sources. We identify 2243 of these sources as galaxies, and 352 as stars. Of the galaxies, we identify 1579 as members of SPT-SZ galaxy clusters. The primary goal of these observations was to obtain spectra of cluster member galaxies to estimate cluster redshifts and velocity dispersions. We describe the full spectroscopic data set and resulting data products, including galaxy redshifts, cluster redshifts, and velocity dispersions, and measurements of several well-known spectral indices for each galaxy: the equivalent width, W, of [O II] λλ3727, 3729 and H-δ, and the 4000 Å break strength, D4000. We use the spectral indices to classify galaxies by spectral type (i.e., passive, post-starburst, star-forming), and we match the spectra against photometric catalogs to characterize spectroscopically observed cluster members as a function of brightness (relative to m⋆). Finally, we report several new measurements of redshifts for ten bright, strongly lensed background galaxies in the cores of eight galaxy clusters. Combining the SPT-GMOS data set with previous spectroscopic follow-up of SPT-SZ galaxy clusters results in spectroscopic measurements for >100 clusters, or ~20% of the full SPT-SZ sample
