Refractive effects in the scattering of loosely bound nuclei

    Get PDF
A study of the interaction of loosely bound nuclei 6,7Li at 9 and 19 AMeV with light targets has been undertaken. With the determination of unambiguous optical potentials in mind, elastic data for four projectile-target combinations and one neutron transfer reaction 13C(7Li,8Li)12C have been measured on a large angular range. The kinematical regime encompasses a region where the mean field (optical potential) has a marked variation with mass and energy, but turns out to be sufficiently surface transparent to allow strong refractive effects to be manifested in elastic scattering data at intermediate angles. The identified exotic feature, a "plateau" in the angular distributions at intermediate angles, is fully confirmed in four reaction channels and interpreted as a pre-rainbow oscillation resulting from the interference of the barrier and internal barrier farside scattering subamplitudes.Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures, 3 tables to submit to Phys. COVID-19 and the faster evolution of emerging technologies forced companies to create new business models and become more digital. Therefore, companies worldwide have adopted different digital technologies such as online stores, digital assistants, digital panels, or robotic services. This trend has also impacted the cruise industry, with new cruise ships using digital technologies onboard such as: Artificial Intelligence (AI): ⎼ ZOE digital assistance is used in the latest MSC Cruise Ships. ⎼ Virtual Concierge app used on the newest Celebrity Cruises Ships. ⎼ Robotic bartender at the Bionic Bar on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. ⎼ Pepper, the humanoid robot at Costa Cruise Line ships. ⎼ Rob the first humanoid robot bartender at MSC Cruise ships. Virtual Reality (VR): ⎼ Shore excursions ⎼ Culinary dining Despite the strong adoption of new technologies in cruise ships, existing studies related to the use of AI, VR, or robots in smart tourism are mostly limited to restaurants, hotels, or airports.

Studies of floristic composition and plant species richness in tropical mountains support their recognition as areas of high biological diversity, and therefore of their importance for plant conservation. Here, we present data on the flora of the high Andes of eight sites centered in the Carabaya mountains, and also provide a floristic comparison with nine other floras within Peru and northern Bolivia. The study area includes 506 species of vascular plants, grouped in 203 genera and 66 families. The highest species richness was found in two families: Asteraceae and Poaceae, which collectively encompass 37% of all species. Other important families were Caryophyllaceae, Fabaceae, Malvaceae, Brassicaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Gentianaceae, Plantaginaceae and Cyperaceae. The most diverse genera were Senecio, Calamagrostis, Poa and Nototriche. Perennial herbs were the dominant growth form. The vascular flora of the Carabaya Mountains is closely related to those of other regions of southern Peru. Also, more than half of all vascular plants registered for the Carabaya Mountain occur in the Andean region of Bolivia, which shows the undoubted geophysical and phytogeographical connection of the Carabaya and the Bolivian Apolobamba Mountains. This study also shows that there is still a need for more extensive plant collecting and future exploration, since the Carabaya, as other parts of Peru’s high Andes are subject of dramatic change that may threaten these plant populations.

In this work, we provided a Tropaeolum tuberosum hydroalcoholic extract to male mice (780 mg kg-1) for 7, 14 and 21 days treatment, there was no significant difference in body weight gain, testes, epididymides and prostate weight (p> 0.05), nevertheless progressive motility decreased and immobile sperm count increased significantly after 21 days treatment (p <0.05). The sperm count in the epididymis cauda decreased in the 3 three assessments, concentration on 21 days treatment was significantly lower than those of 7 and 14 days treatments (p <0.05). Our results suggest, that T. tuberosum has a direct action on the male reproductive system decreasing spermatic parameters without exerting toxic effects on mice.

Coherent states for a particle on a sphere

    Get PDF
The coherent states for a particle on a sphere are introduced. These states are labelled by points of the classical phase space, that is the position on the sphere and the angular momentum of a particle. As with the coherent states for a particle on a circle discussed in Kowalski K {\em et al} 1996 {\em J. Phys. A} {\bf 29} 4149, we deal with a deformation of the classical phase space related with quantum fluctuations. The expectation values of the position and the angular momentum in the coherent states are regarded as the best possible approximation of the classical phase space. The correctness of the introduced coherent states is illustrated by an example of the rotator.Comment: LaTeX, 16 pages, 2 figure

Dark Energy in an Axion Model with Explicit Z(N) Symmetry Breaking

We point out that a well known axion model with an explicit Z(N) symmetry breaking term predicts both dark energy and cold dark matter. We estimate the parameters of this model which fit the observed densities of the dark components of the universe. We find that the parameters do not conflict with any observations.Comment: 5 pages, minor change
