Determinants of Beef and Pork Brand Equity

    Get PDF
This revision is dated November 1, 2003.A set of consumer-level characteristic demand models were estimated to determine the level of brand equity for pork and beef meat cuts. Results indicate that brand premiums and discounts vary by private, national, and store brands; and brand equity varies across meat cuts carrying the same brand name. Other results are that product size discounts are linear, meat items on sale are significantly discounted to non-sale items, specialty stores typically do not garner higher prices than supermarket/grocery store, and warehouse/super center stores typically premium price to supermarket/ grocery stores. The authors gratefully acknowledge the Beef Checkoff program for funding the acquisition of the National Panel Diary data used for this analysis

Chatter prevention in stands of continuous cold rolling mills

The article states new results of the theoretical and applied research on prevention of chatter in stands of continuous cold rolling mills. It was found that chatter occurs under those process conditions, which involve violation of a condition of strip rolling with tension because of ongoing change of the process state, when the process proceeds now with tension and now with pushing because of variation of strip volumes per second in a negative or positive range of values. It is demonstrated that it is possible to influence effectively the difference of strip volumes per second and prevent chatter by decreasing reduction in a stand subject to chattering and simultaneously increasing reduction in adjacent stands, and also by changing the ratio of rolling speeds in these stands of the mill. This has led to development of process conditions for thin steel strip rolling on the 5-stand mill 1700 of PAO Severstal, enabling rolling speed increase and process stabilization

In recent years, Spodoptera frugiperda has appeared in several West African countries, causing considerable damage to maize. In CĂŽte d'Ivoire, the first suspicions of the insect appeared in October 2016, when maize producers reported the invasion of their respective crop sites by a certain caterpillar of which they had no knowledge. Following morphological and biological observations made during field missions, these suspicions were confirmed. In the laboratory, a breeding operation to determine the development cycle of the pest was therefore carried out. The results indicated that the female lays eggs 2 to 3 days after emergence. Hatching occurs 2 to 3 days after egg laying. The duration of the larval stage varied between 16 and 38 days, with an average duration of approximately 24.63 ± 5.41 days. The duration of the pupal period varied between 6 and 13 days. The total duration of the development varied between 30 and 53 days. However, adults live about 10 days.

Consumer behaviour towards honey products in Western Australia

Purpose – This paper aims to explore the factors impacting and influencing the consumer's decision to purchase honey in a retail store. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from shopping mall intercepts in Perth, Western Australia, using a structured questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the principal constructs which most influence the consumer's decision to purchase. On the basis of the ways in which honey was consumed within the household, cluster analysis was utilised to group the respondents into meaningful segments. Findings – In Perth, Western Australia, honey is primarily consumed as a spread or a sweetener on breakfast cereals and porridge. However, honey is also used as a marinade, in cakes and cookies and as a beverage. According to the way in which honey is consumed in the household, five clusters were identified. In purchasing honey from a retail store, exploratory factor analysis revealed three principal constructs which were most influential in the consumer's decision to purchase: brand reputation, origin and value for money. Ethnicity was found to have a significant influence on the way in which honey was consumed in the household and the importance of the three constructs extracted. Originality/value – This is one of the few studies that find a significant difference between Anglo Saxon and Asian consumers of honey

    Cardiac sarcoidosis: a case report

peer reviewedSarcoidosis is a systemic disease of unknown aetiology characterised by the formation of non caseating epithelioid cell granuloma, which can occur in virtually any organ. The involvement of the heart is an important prognostic factor in sarcoidosis. Early treatment prevents irreversible damage of the heart and seems to be associated with better prognosis
