Analytical Blowup Solutions to the Pressureless Navier-Stokes-Poisson Equations with Density-dependent Viscosity in R^N
We study the N-dimensional pressureless Navier--Stokes-Poisson equations with
density-dependent viscosity. With the extension of the blowup solutions for the
Euler-Poisson equations, the analytical blowup solutions,in radial symmetry, in
R^N are constructed.Comment: 12 Pages, more detail in the introduction to explain the validity of

Arp2/3 complex activity in filopodia of spreading cells
Background
Cells use filopodia to explore their environment and to form new adhesion contacts for motility and spreading. The Arp2/3 complex has been implicated in lamellipodial actin assembly as a major nucleator of new actin filaments in branched networks. The interplay between filopodial and lamellipodial protrusions is an area of much interest as it is thought to be a key determinant of how cells make motility choices.
Results
We find that Arp2/3 complex localises to dynamic puncta in filopodia as well as lamellipodia of spreading cells. Arp2/3 complex spots do not appear to depend on local adhesion or on microtubules for their localisation but their inclusion in filopodia or lamellipodia depends on the activity of the small GTPase Rac1. Arp2/3 complex spots in filopodia are capable of incorporating monomeric actin, suggesting the presence of available filament barbed ends for polymerisation. Arp2/3 complex in filopodia co-localises with lamellipodial proteins such as capping protein and cortactin. The dynamics of Arp2/3 complex puncta suggests that they are moving bi-directionally along the length of filopodia and that they may be regions of lamellipodial activity within the filopodia.
Conclusion
We suggest that filopodia of spreading cells have regions of lamellipodial activity and that this activity affects the morphology and movement of filopodia. Our work has implications for how we understand the interplay between lamellipodia and filopodia and for how actin networks are generated spatially in cells
Investigation and characterization of constraint effects on flaw growth during fatigue loading of composite materials
An investigative program is presented in an attempt to add to the current understanding of constraint effects on the response of composite materials under cyclic loading. The objectives were: (1) to use existing data and to develop additional data in order to establish an understanding and quantitative description of flaw growth in unidirectional lamina under cyclic loading at different load direction to fiber direction angles; (2) to establish a similar understanding and description of flaw growth in lamina which are embedded in laminates between other unflawed lamina; (3) to determine the nature of the influence of constraint on flaw growth by quantitatively comparing the results of the tests; and (4) to develop a model and philosophy of constraints effects based on our investigative results
Effect of a magnetic flux on the critical behavior of a system with long range hopping
We study the effect of a magnetic flux in a 1D disordered wire with long
range hopping.
It is shown that this model is at the metal-insulator transition (MIT) for
all disorder values and the spectral correlations are given by critical
statistics. In the weak disorder regime a smooth transition between orthogonal
and unitary symmetry is observed as the flux strength increases. By contrast,
in the strong disorder regime the spectral correlations are almost flux
independent. It is also conjectured that the two level correlation function for
arbitrary flux is given by the dynamical density-density correlations of the
Calogero-Sutherland (CS) model at finite temperature. Finally we describe the
classical dynamics of the model and its relevance to quantum chaos.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Coherence of Nitrogen-Vacancy Electronic Spin Ensembles in Diamond
We present an experimental and theoretical study of electronic spin
decoherence in ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in bulk
high-purity diamond at room temperature. Under appropriate conditions, we find
ensemble NV spin coherence times (T_2) comparable to that of single NVs, with
T_2 > 600 microseconds for a sample with natural abundance of 13C and
paramagnetic impurity density ~10^15 cm^(-3). We also observe a sharp decrease
of the coherence time with misalignment of the static magnetic field relative
to the NV electronic spin axis, consistent with theoretical modeling of NV
coupling to a 13C nuclear spin bath. The long coherence times and increased
signal-to-noise provided by room-temperature NV ensembles will aid many
applications of NV centers in precision magnetometry and quantum information.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures; v2 minor correction
The reinforcing influence of recommendations on global diversification
Recommender systems are promising ways to filter the overabundant information
in modern society. Their algorithms help individuals to explore decent items,
but it is unclear how they allocate popularity among items. In this paper, we
simulate successive recommendations and measure their influence on the
dispersion of item popularity by Gini coefficient. Our result indicates that
local diffusion and collaborative filtering reinforce the popularity of hot
items, widening the popularity dispersion. On the other hand, the heat
conduction algorithm increases the popularity of the niche items and generates
smaller dispersion of item popularity. Simulations are compared to mean-field
predictions. Our results suggest that recommender systems have reinforcing
influence on global diversification.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure
