Multi-site observations of Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql and 8 Aql (a new Delta Scuti variable): The twelfth STEPHI campaign in 2003
We present an analysis of the pulsation behaviour of the Delta Scuti stars 7
Aql (HD 174532) and 8 Aql (HD 174589) -- a new variable star -- observed in the
framework of STEPHI XII campaign during 2003 June--July. 183 hours of high
precision photometry were acquired by using four-channel photometers at three
sites on three continents during 21 days. The light curves and amplitude
spectra were obtained following a classical scheme of multi-channel photometry.
Observations in different filters were also obtained and analyzed. Six and
three frequencies have been unambiguously detected above a 99% confidence level
in the range 0.090 mHz--0.300 mHz and 0.100 mHz-- 0.145 mHz in 7 Aql and 8 Aql
respectively. A comparison of observed and theoretical frequencies shows that 7
Aql and 8 Aql may oscillate with p modes of low radial orders, typical among
Delta Scuti stars. In terms of radial oscillations the range of 8 Aql goes from
n=1 to n=3 while for 7 Aql the range spans from n=4 to n=7. Non-radial
oscillations have to be present in both stars as well. The expected range of
excited modes according to a non adiabatic analysis goes from n=1 to n=6 in

Metallicity of high stellar mass galaxies with signs of merger events
We focus on an analysis of galaxies of high stellar mass and low metallicity.
We cross-correlated the Millenium Galaxy Catalogue (MGC) and the Sloan Digital
Sky Survey (SDSS) galaxy catalogue to provide a sample of MGC objects with high
resolution imaging and both spectroscopic and photometric information available
in the SDSS database. For each galaxy in our sample, we conducted a systematic
morphological analysis by visual inspection of MGC images using their
luminosity contours. The galaxies are classified as either disturbed or
undisturbed objects. We divide the sample into three metallicity regions,
within wich we compare the properties of disturbed and undisturbed objects. We
find that the fraction of galaxies that are strongly disturbed, indicative of
being merger remnants, is higher when lower metallicity objects are considered.
The three bins analysed consist of approximatively 15%, 20%, and 50% disturbed
galaxies (for high, medium, and low metallicity, respectively). Moreover, the
ratio of the disturbed to undisturbed relative distributions of the population
age indicator, Dn(4000), in the low metallicity bin, indicates that the
disturbed objects have substantially younger stellar populations than their
undisturbed counterparts. In addition, we find that an analysis of colour
distributions provides similar results, showing that low metallicity galaxies
with a disturbed morphology are bluer than those that are undisturbed. The
bluer colours and younger populations of the low metallicity, morphologically
disturbed objects suggest that they have experienced a recent merger with an

Influence of wettability on liquid water transport in gas diffusion layer of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC)
Water management is a key factor that limits PEFC's performance. We show how
insights into this problem can be gained from pore-scale simulations of water
invasion in a model fibrous medium. We explore the influence of contact angle
on the water invasion pattern and water saturation at breakthrough and show
that a dramatic change in the invasion pattern, from fractal to compact, occurs
as the system changes from hydrophobic to hydrophilic. Then, we explore the
case of a system of mixed wettability, i.e. containing both hydrophilic and
hydrophobic pores. The saturation at breakthrough is studied as a function of
the fraction of hydrophilic pores. The results are discussed in relation with
the water management problem, the optimal design of a GDL and the fuel cell
performance degradation mechanisms. We outline how the study could be extended
to 3D systems, notably from binarised images of GDLs obtained by X ray
microtomography

As a continuation of the study of the Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql and 8 Aql; new
CCD photometric data were acquired in 2007. We present a period analysis on
these data that confirm the dominant modes detected in each star in the

Corrections to local scale invariance in the non-equilibrium dynamics of critical systems: numerical evidences
Local scale invariance (LSI) has been recently proposed as a possible
extension of the dynamical scaling in systems at the critical point and during
phase ordering. LSI has been applied inter alia to provide predictions for the
scaling properties of the response function of non-equilibrium critical systems
in the aging regime following a quench from the high-temperature phase to the
critical point. These predictions have been confirmed by Monte Carlo
simulations and analytical results for some specific models, but they are in
disagreement with field-theoretical predictions. By means of Monte Carlo
simulations of the critical two- and three-dimensional Ising model with Glauber
dynamics, we study the intermediate integrated response, finding deviations
from the corresponding LSI predictions that are in qualitative agreement with
the field-theoretical computations. This result casts some doubts on the

Polynomial Relations in the Centre of U_q(sl(N))
When the parameter of deformation q is a m-th root of unity, the centre of
U_q(sl(N))$ contains, besides the usual q-deformed Casimirs, a set of new
generators, which are basically the m-th powers of all the Cartan generators of
U_q(sl(N)). All these central elements are however not independent. In this
letter, generalising the well-known case of U_q(sl(2)), we explicitly write
polynomial relations satisfied by the generators of the centre. Application to
the parametrization of irreducible representations and to fusion rules are
