Measurement-based Energy Consumption Profiling of Mobile Radio Networks
Abstract âThe exponential growth of mobile traffic is forcing operators to increase quickly the capacity of their network and extend it with new technologies and improved topologies, such as heterogeneous layouts with small cells. However, since revenues cannot grow at the same rate of traffic, the main challenge is to manage capacity expansion with reduced costs. In addi- tion to fixed costs for the new network infrastructures, operational costs are becoming critical, mainly for en- ergy bill component. Moreover, the carbon footprint of mobile access networks is considered one of the largest of the whole ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector and its reduction is fundamental for the environmental sustainability of the Internet economy. Due to these reasons, improving the energy efficiency of the access network is crucial for mobile operators. In order to do that, monitoring the energy consumption of the network components and defining models of energy profile are valuable approaches for es- timating energy costs and identifying the most efficient configurations.
In this paper, we present an energy consumption monitoring system that has been designed and im- plemented in three different countries using separate sensors for the radio and base-band components of second, third and fourth generation systems. We also propose an energy profiling approach that simplifies the characterization of the different components and allows the estimation of the energy efficiency based on traffic statistics
A high-resolution aeromagnetic survey over the Cape Roberts Rift Basin: Correlations with seismic reflection and magnetic susceptibility log data
A high-resolution aeromagnetic survey (altitude 125 m asl, spacing 500 m , area 800 km2) was carried out in 1994 offshore of Cape Roberts by the GITARA (German ITalian Aeromagnetic Research in Antarctica) Group. The availability from drilling of whole-core physical properties logs for magnetic susceptibility, P-wave velocity and density/porosity data allows new insights to be inferred from reprocessed and reviewed HRAM aeromagnetic data. Aeromagnetic data have been reprocessed to image with greater detail the structural framework along the western flank of the Victoria Land Basin. New processing includes 2D Werner and 3D Euler deconvolution, the production of maps of the maximum horizontal gradient of pseudo-gravity, and 2D, 3D modelling. Magnetic trends and anomalies are discussed in conjunction with now available drilling results from the CRP, existing bathymetric data and recently published interpretations of a multichannel seismic reflection survey

Offâlabel long acting injectable antipsychotics in realâworld clinical practice: a cross-sectional analysis of prescriptive patterns from the STAR Network DEPOT study
Introduction: Information on the offâlabel use of LongâActing Injectable (LAI) antipsychotics in the real world is lacking. In this study, we aimed to identify the sociodemographic and clinical features of patients treated with onâ vs offâlabel LAIs and predictors of offâlabel Firstâ or SecondâGeneration Antipsychotic (FGA vs. SGA) LAI choice in everyday clinical practice. Method: In a naturalistic national cohort of 449 patients who initiated LAI treatment in the STAR Network Depot Study, two groups were identified based on offâ or onâlabel prescriptions. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to test several clinically relevant variables and identify those associated with the choice of FGA vs SGA prescription in the offâlabel group. Results: SGA LAIs were more commonly prescribed in everyday practice, without significant differences in their onâ and offâlabel use. Approximately 1 in 4 patients received an offâlabel prescription. In the offâlabel group, the most frequent diagnoses were bipolar disorder (67.5%) or any personality disorder (23.7%). FGA vs SGA LAI choice was significantly associated with BPRS thought disorder (OR = 1.22, CI95% 1.04 to 1.43, p = 0.015) and hostility/suspiciousness (OR = 0.83, CI95% 0.71 to 0.97, p = 0.017) dimensions. The likelihood of receiving an SGA LAI grew steadily with the increase of the BPRS thought disturbance score. Conversely, a preference towards prescribing an FGA was observed with higher scores at the BPRS hostility/suspiciousness subscale. Conclusion: Our study is the first to identify predictors of FGA vs SGA choice in patients treated with offâlabel LAI antipsychotics. Demographic characteristics, i.e. age, sex, and substance/alcohol use coâmorbidities did not appear to influence the choice towards FGAs or SGAs. Despite a lack of evidence, clinicians tend to favour FGA over SGA LAIs in bipolar or personality disorder patients with relevant hostility. Further research is needed to evaluate treatment adherence and clinical effectiveness of these prescriptive patterns
Promotion of prostatic metastatic migration towards human bone marrow stoma by Omega 6 and its inhibition by Omega 3 PUFAs
Epidemiological studies have shown not only a relationship between the intake of dietary lipids and an increased risk of developing metastatic prostate cancer, but also the type of lipid intake that influences the risk of metastatic prostate cancer. The Omega-6 poly-unsaturated fatty acid, Arachidonic acid, has been shown to enhance the proliferation of malignant prostate epithelial cells and increase the risk of advanced prostate cancer. However, its role in potentiating the migration of cancer cells is unknown. Here we show that arachidonic acid at concentrations â©œ5âÎŒM is a potent stimulator of malignant epithelial cellular invasion, which is able to restore invasion toward hydrocortisone-deprived adipocyte-free human bone marrow stroma completely. This observed invasion is mediated by the arachidonic acid metabolite prostaglandin E2 and is inhibited by the Omega-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid at a ratio of 1â:â2 Omega-3â:âOmega-6, and by the COX-2 inhibitor NS-398. These results identify a mechanism by which arachidonic acid may potentiate the risk of metastatic migration and secondary implantation in vivo, a risk which can be reduced with the uptake of Omega-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids
Evaluation of stiffness terms for Z-cored sandwich panels
This paper presents a model for the stiffness terms of composite sandwich panels with structured cores (referred to as \u27z-core\u27 panels). Truss-cores, corrugated-cores and double-corrugated cores containing a polymeric foam were considered. The model was validated, both through finite element simulation and through comparison with the results of experimental three point bend tests on panels. A parametric study was performed to assess the performance of the different reinforced panel configurations. \ua9 2007 Springer Science+Business Media B.V
