The 2-dimensional non-linear sigma-model on a random latice
The O(n) non-linear -model is simulated on 2-dimensional regular and
random lattices. We use two different levels of randomness in the construction
of the random lattices and give a detailed explanation of the geometry of such
lattices. In the simulations, we calculate the mass gap for and 8,
analysing the asymptotic scaling of the data and computing the ratio of Lambda
parameters . These ratios are in
agreement with previous semi-analytical calculations. We also numerically

Asymmetric spin-wave dispersion due to Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in an ultrathin Pt/CoFeB film
Employing Brillouin spectroscopy, strong interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya
interactions have been observed in an ultrathin Pt/CoFeB film. Our
micromagnetic simulations show that spin-wave nonreciprocity due to asymmetric
surface pinning is insignificant for the 0.8nmthick CoFeB film studied. The
observed high asymmetry of the monotonic spin wave dispersion relation is thus
ascribed to strong Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions present at the Pt/CoFeB
interface. Our findings should further enhance the significance of CoFeB as an
important material for magnonic, spintronic and skyrmionic applications.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure
On the complete classification of the unitary N=2 minimal superconformal field theories
Aiming at a complete classification of unitary N=2 minimal models (where the
assumption of space-time supersymmetry has been dropped), it is shown that each
modular invariant candidate of a partition function for such a theory is indeed
the partition function of a minimal model. A family of models constructed via
orbifoldings of either the diagonal model or of the space-time supersymmetric
exceptional models demonstrates that there exists a unitary N=2 minimal model
for every one of the allowed partition functions in the list obtained from
Gannon's work.
Kreuzer and Schellekens' conjecture that all simple current invariants can be
obtained as orbifolds of the diagonal model, even when the extra assumption of
higher-genus modular invariance is dropped, is confirmed in the case of the

The nuclear starburst in Arp 299-A: From the 5.0 GHz VLBI radio light-curves to its core-collapse supernova rate
The nuclear region of the Luminous Infra-red Galaxy Arp 299-A hosts a recent
( Myr), intense burst of massive star formation which is expected to
lead to numerous core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe). Previous VLBI observations,
carried out with the EVN at 5.0 GHz and with the VLBA at 2.3 and 8.4 GHz,
resulted in the detection of a large number of compact, bright, non-thermal
sources in a region \lsim150 pc in size. We aim at establishing the nature of
all non-thermal, compact components in Arp 299-A, as well as estimating its
core-collapse supernova rate. We use multi-epoch European VLBI Network (EVN)
observations taken at 5.0 GHz to image with milliarcsecond resolution the
compact radio sources in the nuclear region of Arp 299-A. We also use one
single-epoch 5.0 GHz Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN)
observation to image the extended emission in which the compact radio sources
--traced by our EVN observations-- are embedded. Twenty-six compact sources are
detected, 8 of them are new objects not previously detected. The properties of
all detected objects are consistent with them being a mixed population of CCSNe
and SNRs. We find clear evidence for at least two new CCSNe, implying a lower
limit to the CCSN rate of \nu_{\rm SN}\gsim0.80 SN/yr indicating that the
bulk of the current star formation in Arp 299-A is taking place in the
innermost pc. Our MERLIN observations trace a region of diffuse,
extended emission which is co-spatial to the region where all compact sources
are found. From this diffuse, non-thermal radio emission we obtain an
independent estimate for the core-collapse supernova rate, which is in the
range - 0.65 SN/yr, roughly in agreement with previous
estimates and our direct estimate of the CCSN rate from the compact radio

GCA in 2d
We make a detailed study of the infinite dimensional Galilean Conformal
Algebra (GCA) in the case of two spacetime dimensions. Classically, this
algebra is precisely obtained from a contraction of the generators of the
relativistic conformal symmetry in 2d. Here we find quantum mechanical
realisations of the (centrally extended) GCA by considering scaling limits of
certain 2d CFTs. These parent CFTs are non-unitary and have their left and
right central charges become large in magnitude and opposite in sign. We
therefore develop, in parallel to the usual machinery for 2d CFT, many of the
tools for the analysis of the quantum mechanical GCA. These include the
representation theory based on GCA primaries, Ward identities for their
correlation functions and a nonrelativistic Kac table. In particular, the null
vectors of the GCA lead to differential equations for the four point function.
The solution to these equations in the simplest case is explicitly obtained and

A patient with asymptomatic severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and antigenemia from the 2003-2004 community outbreak of SARS in Guangzhou, China.
An asymptomatic case of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) occurred early in 2004, during a community outbreak of SARS in Guangzhou, China. This was the first time that a case of asymptomatic SARS was noted in an individual with antigenemia and seroconversion. The asymptomatic case patient and the second index case patient with SARS in the 2003-2004 outbreak both worked in the same restaurant, where they served palm civets, which were found to carry SARS-associated coronaviruses. Epidemiological information and laboratory findings suggested that the findings for the patient with asymptomatic infection, together with the findings from previously reported serological analyses of handlers of wild animals and the 4 index case patients from the 2004 community outbreak, reflected a likely intermediate phase of animal-to-human transmission of infection, rather than a case of human-to-human transmission. This intermediate phase may be a critical stage for virus evolution and disease prevention.published_or_final_versio
Exclusive semileptonic B_s decays to excited D_s mesons: Search of D_{sJ}(2317) and D_{sJ}(2460)
We study the exclusive semileptonic decays B_s->D_{s0}^*\ell\bar\nu and
B_s->D_{s1}^*\ell\bar\nu, where p-wave excited D_{s0}^* and D_{s1}^* states are
identified with the newly observed D_{sJ}(2317) and D_{sJ}(2460) states. Within
the framework of HQET the Isgur-Wise functions up to the subleading order of
the heavy quark expansion are calculated by QCD sum rules. The decay rates and
branching ratios are computed with the inclusion of the order of 1/m_Q
corrections. We point out that the investigation of the B_s semileptonic decays
to excited D_s mesons may provide some information about the nature of the new

Spin chains with dynamical lattice supersymmetry
Spin chains with exact supersymmetry on finite one-dimensional lattices are
considered. The supercharges are nilpotent operators on the lattice of
dynamical nature: they change the number of sites. A local criterion for the
nilpotency on periodic lattices is formulated. Any of its solutions leads to a
supersymmetric spin chain. It is shown that a class of special solutions at
arbitrary spin gives the lattice equivalents of the N=(2,2) superconformal
minimal models. The case of spin one is investigated in detail: in particular,
it is shown that the Fateev-Zamolodchikov chain and its off-critical extension
admits a lattice supersymmetry for all its coupling constants. Its
supersymmetry singlets are thoroughly analysed, and a relation between their
components and the weighted enumeration of alternating sign matrices is

Anti-epileptic effect of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides by inhibition of intracellular calcium accumulation and stimulation of expression of CaMKII a in epileptic hippocampal neurons
Purpose: To investigate the mechanism of the anti-epileptic effect of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides (GLP), the changes of intracellular calcium and CaMK II a expression in a model of epileptic neurons were investigated.
Method: Primary hippocampal neurons were divided into: 1) Control group, neurons were cultured with Neurobasal medium, for 3 hours; 2) Model group I: neurons were incubated with Mg2+ free medium for 3 hours; 3) Model group II: neurons were incubated with Mg2+ free medium for 3 hours then cultured with the normal medium for a further 3 hours; 4) GLP group I: neurons were incubated with Mg2+ free medium containing GLP (0.375 mg/ml) for 3 hours; 5) GLP group II: neurons were incubated with Mg2+ free medium for 3 hours then cultured with a normal culture medium containing GLP for a further 3 hours. The CaMK II a protein expression was assessed by Western-blot. Ca2+ turnover in neurons was assessed using Fluo-3/AM which was added into the replacement medium and Ca2+ turnover was observed under a laser scanning confocal microscope.
Results: The CaMK II a expression in the model groups was less than in the control groups, however, in the GLP groups, it was higher than that observed in the model group. Ca2+ fluorescence intensity in GLP group I was significantly lower than that in model group I after 30 seconds, while in GLP group II, it was reduced significantly compared to model group II after 5 minutes.
Conclusion: GLP may inhibit calcium overload and promote CaMK II a expression to protect epileptic neuron
Results from a Low-Energy Analysis of the CDMS II Germanium Data
We report results from a reanalysis of data from the Cryogenic Dark Matter
Search (CDMS II) experiment at the Soudan Underground Laboratory. Data taken
between October 2006 and September 2008 using eight germanium detectors are
reanalyzed with a lowered, 2 keV recoil-energy threshold, to give increased
sensitivity to interactions from Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs)
with masses below ~10 GeV/c^2. This analysis provides stronger constraints than
previous CDMS II results for WIMP masses below 9 GeV/c^2 and excludes parameter
space associated with possible low-mass WIMP signals from the DAMA/LIBRA and
