    La presentación y defensa del trabajo de terminación de la especialización (TTE) es uno de los elementos que componen el examen estatal de la especialidad y constituye además, una actividad académica que fortalece la identidad cultural de la institución docente y la capacidad del autor de defender los resultados de su trabajo. Existen dificultades en ambas direcciones. En el presente artículo se ofrecen algunos consejos prácticos y otros elementos importantes a tener en cuenta en la presentación y en el acto de defensa del TTE, haciendo énfasis en los tres componentes principales de ese momento: el tribunal evaluador, el residente y el informe de la investigación.</span

    Se realizó un análisis de contenido de los programas de formación que se han aplicado desde el inicio de la especialidad, seleccionando aquellos vigentes en los momentos en que se producen los cambios y que determinan los etapas de referencia. En ellos se estudiaron las modificaciones aprobadas en cada uno, utilizando una guía de análisis de contenido de documentos escritos, elaborada a partir del modelo descrito en el Programa de Formación de este especialista. En los resultados se aprecia con claridad cómo el modelo del primer programa mantiene vigencia en su contenido y que las diferencias principales están basadas en el modo de estructurarlo.     Assessment of stress and nutritional biomarkers in cultured Octopus vulgaris paralarvae: Effects of geographical origin and dietary regime

    The common octopus (Octopus vulgaris) is a promising species for aquaculture diversification, but massive mortality during the first life-cycle stages (paralarvae) is the main bottleneck for its commercial production in captivity. The aim of this study was to assess stress and nutritional condition biomarkers (HSP70, ROS enzymes and lipid peroxidation) (RNA/DNA, RNA/protein, protein/DNA and protein) inO.vulgarisparalarvae from different geographical origins and fed withArtemiaenriched with marine phospholipids or microalgae (control group). To this end paralarvae were cultured for 30days, in three different centres in Spain (Tarragona-Mediterranean area, Tenerife-Central Atlantic area and Vigo-North Atlantic area), under the same protocol, and fed onArtemiaenriched with marine phospholipids (LC60) (Marine Lecithin LC 60&reg;, PhosphoTech Laboratoires) or microalgae (control group). Dry weight and most biomarkers analysed in hatchlings showed significant differences related to their origin (centre). Fifteen day old paralarvae presented significant differences in specific growth rate (SGR) associated with their dietary regime, and also showed differences in biomarkers associated both with their geographical origin and dietary regime. The results suggest that the SGR of paralarvae were positively influenced by LC60, promoting growth and in agreement with the results of nutritional condition biomarkers (nucleic acids ratios). The antioxidant defences against oxidative damage were also boosted in the LC60 paralarvae group, possibly as a result of the elevated content in highly polyunsaturated fatty acids. In addition, the partial correlations found between biomarkers varied according to diet. However, no positive effect of LC60 on survival was observed. The high variability found among geographical origins, despite the use of the same rearing protocol, highlights the need to clarify the sources of such variability

    Fatty acids composition and age estimation of wild Octopus vulgaris paralarvae

    Under culture conditions, lipid composition and specifically, the fatty acid profile of reared paralarvae is significantly different from hatchlings. Therefore, comparing wild paralarvae and reared paralarvae of similar age would allow us to elucidate if the changes in fatty acid profile are related with a non-optimal prey composition or are caused by the normal development. The aim of this study was analyze, for the very first time, the fatty acid profile of wild Octopus vulgaris paralarvae individually, determining for each paralarvae their age through deposition of daily increments on lateral hood surface of the beaks. The main goal is to clear up lipid requirements of paralarvae and optimise the diet of reared paralarvae

    Effectiveness of influenza vaccination programme in preventing hospital admissions, Valencia, 2014/15 early results

    Preliminary results for the 2014/15 season indicate low to null effect of vaccination against influenza A(H3N2)-related disease. As of week 5 2015, there have been 1,136 hospital admissions, 210 were due to influenza and 98% of subtype A strains were H3. Adjusted influenza vaccine effectiveness was 33% (range: 6–53%) overall and 40% (range: 13% to 59%) in those 65 years and older. The parasite Marteilia cochillia has devastated cockle beds in the southern Galician (NW Spain) rias since 2012. Previous data suggested that cockles from Ría de Arousa acquired some resilience to this parasite through natural selection after consecutive annual marteiliosis outbreaks and candidate markers associated with marteiliosis resilience were identified using population genomics and transcriptomics approaches. Here, a common garden experiment was performed using a naïve stock (from Ría de Muros-Noia) and an affected stock (from Ría de Arousa) to test this hypothesis. Breeders from both stocks were used to produce seed cohorts at hatchery, which were pre-grown in a raft (outdoor nursery stage) and deployed in two shellfish beds affected by marteiliosis in Ría de Arousa (growing-out stage). In both beds, the naïve stock showed high marteiliosis prevalence and was fully depleted in a short period, while the affected stock barely showed evidence of marteiliosis. A set of 45 SNPs putatively associated with marteiliosis resilience were fitted for MassARRAY genotyping to check their role in the differential resilience detected between both stocks. Though no significant differentiation was found between the naïve and the affected stocks with neutral markers, 28 SNPs showed significant divergence between them, suggesting that these SNPs were involved in directional selection during eight generations (to the most) of marteiliosis pressure (long-term selection). Furthermore, signals of selection were also detected in the naïve stock along the marteiliosis outbreak in the growing-out stage (short-term selection) and six SNPs, all shared with the long-term evaluation, showed consistent signals of differentiation according to the infection severity. Some of these SNPs were located within immune genes pertaining to families such as proteasome, ubiquitin, tumor necrosis factor, and glutathione S-transferase. These resilience-associated markers will be useful to recover cockle production in GaliciaR.M.     Morphology and magnetism of multifunctional nanostructured γ\gamma-Fe2_2O3_3 films: Simulation and experiments

    This paper introduces a new approach for simulating magnetic properties of nanocomposites comprising magnetic particles embedded in a non-magnetic matrix, taking into account the 3D structure of the system in which particles' positions correctly mimic real samples. The proposed approach develops a multistage simulation procedure in which the size and distribution of particles within the hosting matrix is firstly attained by means of the Cell Dynamic System (CDS) model. The 3D structure provided by the CDS step is further employed in a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of zero-field-cooled/field-cooled (ZFC/FC) and magnetic hysteresis loops (M×HM \times H curves) for the system. Simulations are aimed to draw a realistic picture of the as-produced ultra-thin films comprising maghemite nanoparticles dispersed in polyaniline. Comparison (ZFC/FC and M×HM \times H curves) between experiments and simulations regarding the maximum of the ZFC curve (TMAXT_{\scriptsize MAX}), remanence (MR/MsM_R/M_s) and coercivity (HCH_C) revealed the great accuracy of the multistage approach proposed here while providing information about the system's morphology and magnetic properties. For a typical sample the value we found experimentally for TMAXT_{\scriptsize MAX} (54 K) was very close to the value provided by the simulation (53 K). For the parameters depending on the nanoparticle clustering the experimental values were consistently lower (MR/MsM_R/M_s = 0.32 and HCH_C = 210 Oe) than the values we found in the simulation (MR/MsM_R/M_s = 0.53 and HCH_C = 274 Oe). Indeed, the approach introduced here is very promising for the design of real magnetic nanocomposite samples with optimized features.Comment: 19 pages (one column), 5 figure
