Modified Spin Wave Analysis of Low Temperature Properties of Spin-1/2 Frustrated Ferromagnetic Ladder
Low temperature properties of the spin-1/2 frustrated ladder with
ferromagnetic rungs and legs, and two different antiferromagnetic next nearest
neighbor interaction are investigated using the modified spin wave
approximation in the region with ferromagnetic ground state. The temperature
dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and magnetic structure factors is
calculated. The results are consistent with the numerical exact diagonalization
results in the intermediate temperature range. Below this temperature range,
the finite size effect is significant in the numerical diagonalization results,
while the modified spin wave approximation gives more reliable results. The low
temperature properties near the limit of the stability of the ferromagnetic
ground state are also discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure
Spin Susceptibility of Noncentrosymmetric Heavy-fermion Superconductor CeIrSi3 under Pressure: 29Si-Knight Shift Study on Single Crystal
We report 29Si-NMR study on a single crystal of the heavy-fermion
superconductor CeIrSi3 without an inversion symmetry along the c-axis. The
29Si-Knight shift measurements under pressure have revealed that the spin
susceptibility for the ab-plane decreases slightly below Tc, whereas along the
c-axis it does not change at all. The result can be accounted for by the spin
susceptibility in the superconducting state being dominated by the strong
antisymmetric (Rashba-type) spin-orbit interaction that originates from the
absence of an inversion center along the c-axis and it being much larger than
superconducting condensation energy. This is the first observation which
exhibits an anisotropy of the spin susceptibility below Tc in the
noncentrosymmetric superconductor dominated by strong Rashba-type spin-orbit
interaction.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Let
Peixes Da Reserva Biológica Do Jaru, Drenagem Do Rio Machado, Bacia Do Rio Madeira, Estado De Rondônia, Norte Do Brasil
Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)This work assessed freshwater fishes collected at 12 stations located along the Tarumã River, middle Machado River, Madeira River basin. The fieldwork took place in May and September 2015 during the high and low water seasons, respectively. We gathered 1,482 specimens representing seven orders, 30 families, 54 genera and 74 species using seine, gill, and hand nets. The family Characidae was the most representative, exhibiting the highest number of species captured. The species with the greatest abundance were Hemigrammus vorderwinkleri, Hyphessobrycon bentosi, Hemigrammus cf. bellottii, Bryconella pallidifrons, and Apistogramma resticulosa. Two species that remained unidentified are probably a new species. This study represents the third fish survey totally conducted at a Conservation Unit in the Rondônia State, and will certainly provide valuable information for future investigations on biodiversity conservation in the Machado River. © 2017, Universidade Estadual de Campinas UNICAMP. Competing Ground States of a Peierls-Hubbard Nanotube
Motivated by iodo platinum complexes assembled within a quadratic-prism
lattice, [Pt(CHN)(CHN)I](NO), we
investigate the ground-state properties of a Peierls-Hubbard four-legged tube.
Making a group-theoretical analysis, we systematically reveal a variety of
valence arrangements, including half-metallic charge-density-wave states.
Quantum and thermal phase competition is numerically demonstrated with
particular emphasis on doping-induced successive insulator-to-metal transitions
with conductivity increasing stepwise.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures. to be published in Europhys. Lett. 87 (2009)

Evidence for glutamate as a neuroglial transmitter within sensory ganglia
This study examines key elements of glutamatergic transmission within sensory ganglia of the rat. We show that the soma of primary sensory neurons release glutamate when depolarized. Using acute dissociated mixed neuronal/glia cultures of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) or trigeminal ganglia and a colorimetric assay, we show that when glutamate uptake by satellite glial cells (SGCs) is inhibited, KCl stimulation leads to simultaneous increase of glutamate in the culture medium. With calcium imaging we see that the soma of primary sensory neurons and SGCs respond to AMPA, NMDA, kainate and mGluR agonists, and selective antagonists block this response. Using whole cell patch-clamp technique, inward currents were recorded from small diameter (<30 µm) DRG neurons from intact DRGs (ex-vivo whole ganglion preparation) in response to local application of the above glutamate receptor agonists. Following a chronic constriction injury (CCI) of either the inferior orbital nerve or the sciatic nerve, glutamate expression increases in the trigeminal ganglia and DRG respectively. This increase occurs in neurons of all diameters and is present in the somata of neurons with injured axons as well as in somata of neighboring uninjured neurons. These data provides additional evidence that glutamate can be released within the sensory ganglion, and that the somata of primary sensory neurons as well as SGCs express functional glutamate receptors at their surface. These findings, together with our previous gene knockdown data, suggest that glutamatergic transmission within the ganglion could impact nociceptive thresholdpublished_or_final_versio

Low-energy structure of the intertwining double-chain ferrimagnets A_3_Cu_3_(PO_4_)_4_ (A=Ca,Sr,Pb)
Motivated by the homometallic intertwining double-chain ferrimagnets
A_3_Cu_3_(PO_4_)_4_ (A=Ca,Sr,Pb), we investigate the low-energy structure of
their model Hamiltonian H=\sum_n_[J_1_(S_{n :1}_+S_{n :3}_)
+J_2_(S_{n+1:1}+S_{n-1:3}_)]\cdotS_{n:2}_, where S_{n:l}_ stands for the
Cu^{2+}^ ion spin labeled l in the nth trimer unit, with particular emphasis on
the range of bond alternation 0<J_2/J_1<1. Although the spin-wave theory,
whether up to O(S^1^) or up to O(S^0^), claims that there exists a flat band in
the excitation spectrum regardless of bond alternation, a perturbational
treatment as well as the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian reveals its
weak but nonvanishing momentum dispersion unless J_2_=J_1_ or J_2_=0. Quantum
Monte Carlo calculations of the static structure factor further convince us of
the low-lying excitation mechanism, elucidating similarities and differences
between the present system and alternating-spin linear-chain ferrimagnets.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Enhancement of Superconducting Transition Temperature due to the strong Antiferromagnetic Spin Fluctuations in Non-centrosymmetric Heavy-fermion Superconductor CeIrSi3 :A 29Si-NMR Study under Pressure
We report a 29Si-NMR study on the pressure-induced superconductivity (SC) in
an antiferromagnetic (AFM) heavy-fermion compound CeIrSi3 without inversion
symmetry. In the SC state at P=2.7-2.8 GPa, the temperature dependence of the
nuclear-spin lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 below Tc exhibits a T^3 behavior
without any coherence peak just below Tc, revealing the presence of line nodes
in the SC gap. In the normal state, 1/T_1 follows a \sqrt{T}-like behavior,
suggesting that the SC emerges under the non-Fermi liquid state dominated by
AFM spin fluctuations enhanced around quantum critical point (QCP). The reason
why the maximum Tc in CeIrSi3 is relatively high among the Ce-based
heavy-fermion superconductors may be the existence of the strong AFM spin
fluctuations. We discuss the comparison with the other Ce-based heavy-fermion
superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, To be published in Phys. Rev. Let
