Distance to G14.33-0.64 in the Sagittarius Spiral Arm: H2O Maser Trigonometric Parallax with VERA
We report on trigonometric parallax measurements for the Galactic star
forming region G14.33-0.64 toward the Sagittarius spiral arm. We conducted
multi-epoch phase-referencing observations of an H2O maser source in
G14.33-0.64 with the Japanese VLBI array VERA. We successfully detected a
parallax of 0.893+/-0.101 mas, corresponding to a source distance of
1.12+/-0.13 kpc, which is less than half of the kinematic distance for
G14.33-0.64. Our new distance measurement demonstrates that the Sagittarius arm
lies at a closer distance of ~1 kpc, instead of previously assumed ~2-3 kpc
from kinematic distances. The previously suggested deviation of the Sagittarius
arm toward the Galactic center from the symmetrically fitted model (Taylor &
Cordes 1993) is likely due to large errors of kinematic distances at low
galactic longitudes. G14.33-0.64 most likely traces the near side of the
Sagittarius arm. We attempted fitting the pitch angle of the arm with other
parallax measurements along the arm, which yielded two possible pitch angles of
i=34.7+/-2.7 degrees and i=11.2+/-10.5 degrees. Our proper motion measurements
suggest G14.33-0.64 has no significant peculiar motion relative to the
differential rotation of the Galaxy (assumed to be in a circular orbit),
indicating that the source motion is in good agreement with the Galactic
rotation.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, to appear in PASJ Vol. 62, No.
Cultivation Strategy for Freshwater Macro- and Micro-Algae as Biomass Stock for Lipid Production
In this research, an algae cultivation strategy was studied. Integrating algae cultivation with wastewater treatment is currently seen as one of the most economical ways of producing algae biomass. A combination of an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) and a constructed wetland (CW) was applied for treating domestic wastewater with an additional collection tank for improving effluent quality. The effluent produced from the three stages was used as algae cultivation media and suplemented with 10% bold basal medium (BBM). The results showed both micro- and macro-algae growth and their lipid contents were higher when they were grown in effluent-BBM (9:1 v/v) media. The lipid content of the micro-algae mixed culture was 16.5% while for macro-algae Oedogonium sp and Cladophora sp it was 6.90% and 6.75% respectively
Multi-Component Dark Matter Systems and Their Observation Prospects
Conversions and semi-annihilations of dark matter (DM) particles in addition
to the standard DM annihilations are considered in a three-component DM system.
We find that the relic abundance of DM can be very sensitive to these
non-standard DM annihilation processes, which has been recently found for
two-component DM systems. To consider a concrete model of a three-component DM
system, we extend the radiative seesaw model of Ma by adding a Majorana fermion
\chi and a real scalar boson \phi, to obtain a Z_2 \times Z'_2 DM stabilizing
symmetry, where we assume that the DM particles are the inert Higgs boson, \chi
and \phi. It is shown how the allowed parameter space, obtained previously in
the absence of \chi and \phi, changes. The semi-annihilation process in this
model produces monochromatic neutrinos. The observation rate of these
monochromatic neutrinos from the Sun at IceCube is estimated. Observations of
high energy monochromatic neutrinos from the Sun may indicate a multi-component
DM system.Comment: 27 pages, 11 figure
Triviality and vacuum stability bounds in the three-loop neutrino mass model
We study theoretical constraints on the parameter space under the conditions
from vacuum stability and triviality in the three-loop radiative seesaw model
with TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos which are odd under the parity. In
this model, some of the neutrino Yukawa coupling constants can be of the order
of one. Requirement of strongly first order phase transition for successful
electroweak baryogenes is also prefers order-one coupling constants in the
scalar sector. Hence, it is important to clarify whether this model satisfies
those theoretical conditions up to a given cutoff scale. It is found that the
model can be consistent up to the scale above 10 TeV in the parameter region
where the neutrino data, the lepton flavor violation data, the thermal relic
abundance of dark matter as well as the requirement from the strongly first
order phase transition are satisfied.Comment: 22 pages, 14 figure
Determinan Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk Dengue pada Rumah Tangga di Bogor Tahun 2016
Determinants of dengue mosquito eradication (PSN) in the households in Bogor in 2016PurposeThis study aimed to determine the factors that affect of PSN on housewives in Cibinong and the factors found that influence were: job, knowledge, attitude, behavior of housewife, counselling, active jumantik, giving abatement and the number of container.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted using 125 housewifes in Cibinong sub-district. The statistical analysis used chi-square and multiple logistic regression tests.ResultsThis study showed that counseling and the existence of jumantik cadre were the determinants of the application of mosquito nest eradication. Counseling was the most influential factor on the application of mosquito nest eradication. Conclusion Dengue control and prevention counseling should be given to all age groups in the community regularly and it is recommended to reactivate jumantik cadres
Urban Diabetic Women\u27s Perception of Healthy Eating Lifestyles From West Java
This study aimed to explore perceptions about a healthy-eating lifestyle and reasons to practice a healthy-eating lifestyle of women with type 2 diabetes in a city of West Java by using a case study design. Six female patients, with type 2 diabetes, ages 47–63 from a hospital were interviewed guided by the health promotion model. Their healthy-eating lifestyle included currently practicing or not practicing a healthy-eating lifestyle. Reasons to practice were: beliefs for health and for physical energy to work for family, definition of multidimensional health and self-efficacy increased by: support from God, support from family, support from health professionals and improved or deteriorated health status by prior experience. Reasons not to practice were: difficulty in arranging diet, rejecting eating, controlling appetite, and accessing health care services. Related difficulties were interpersonal relations with family and social situation such as social events, expensive medical fee, and distance to the hospital. These findings suggest that women with type 2 diabetes in Indonesia need to be supported with the reasons to practice a healthy-eating lifestyle
Glycogen Phosphomonoester Distribution in Mouse Models of the Progressive Myoclonic Epilepsy, Lafora Disease
Glycogen is a branched polymer of glucose that acts as an energy reserve in many cell types. Glycogen contains trace amounts of covalent phosphate, in the range of 1 phosphate per 500–2000 glucose residues depending on the source. The function, if any, is unknown, but in at least one genetic disease, the progressive myoclonic epilepsy Lafora disease, excessive phosphorylation of glycogen has been implicated in the pathology by disturbing glycogen structure. Some 90% of Lafora cases are attributed to mutations of the EPM2A or EPM2B genes, and mice with either gene disrupted accumulate hyperphosphorylated glycogen. It is, therefore, of importance to understand the chemistry of glycogen phosphorylation. Rabbit skeletal muscle glycogen contained covalent phosphate as monoesters of C2, C3, and C6 carbons of glucose residues based on analyses of phospho-oligosaccharides by NMR. Furthermore, using a sensitive assay for glucose 6-P in hydrolysates of glycogen coupled with measurement of total phosphate, we determined the proportion of C6 phosphorylation in rabbit muscle glycogen to be ∼20%. C6 phosphorylation also accounted for ∼20% of the covalent phosphate in wild type mouse muscle glycogen. Glycogen phosphorylation in Epm2a−/− and Epm2b−/− mice was increased 8- and 4-fold compared with wild type mice, but the proportion of C6 phosphorylation remained unchanged at ∼20%. Therefore, our results suggest that C2, C3, and/or C6 phosphate could all contribute to abnormal glycogen structure or to Lafora disease
