    A Survey of Quality of Service Differentiation Mechanisms for Optical Burst Switching Networks

OBS has been proposed to couple the benefits of both circuit and packet switching for the ‘‘on demand’’ use of capacity in the future optical Internet. In such a case, QoS support imposes some important challenges before this technology is deployed. This paper takes a broader view on QoS, including QoS differentiation not only at the burst but also at the transport levels for OBS networks. A classification of existing QoS differentiation mechanisms for OBS is given and their efficiency and complexity are comparatively discussed. We provide numerical examples on how QoS differentiation with respect to burst loss rate and transport layer throughput can be achieved in OBS networks. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Vacuum-induced Tamponade for Managing Postpartum Hemorrhage: A Systematic Review

    Objective: Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity around the globe. The novel low-suction vacuum hemorrhage device (VHD) provides an alternative treatment option for cases of postpartum hemorrhage when first-line uterotonic agents fail. This systematic review aims to review current data evaluating the overall efficacy and safety of VHDs in treating postpartum hemorrhage. Methods: We searched CINAHL Ultimate, Academic Search Premier, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE with Full Text, and PubMed and reference lists of retrieved studies for eligible studies that included outcomes of effectiveness, efficacy, or safety. Two independent reviewers used Covidence.org to screen Titles and Abstracts for 69 studies of which six were included in the analysis. Secondary outcomes measured across studies included time to bleeding control, total device deployment time, and adverse effects. Results: Six nonrandomized trials (N = 1018 participants) included studies conducted in Indonesia, the United States, Switzerland, and Canada. The VHDs were found to have 90% effectiveness in achieving bleeding control across the studies. For most patients, this was achieved inlife-threatening, including endometritis in 11 patients and red blood cell transfusions in 38% of patients. Conclusion: VHDs have the potential to be used as a rapidly effective means for mechanical intervention of postpartum hemorrhage. The efficacy and safety of VHDs must be further studied at the randomized controlled trial level to determine their clinical usage

It consists of an introduction, five sections with contributions on five different specific topics, and a final section dedicated to the conclusions. Each section contains an introductive state-of-the-art description of the specific topic and at least one contribution on that topic. The conclusions give some points on the current situation of the OPS/OBS paradigms

The Information-Centric Networking (ICN) provides a new data dissemination Internet paradigm to support the communication services that will meet the end-users’ modern requirements. ICN focuses on transmitting data rather than physical locations. It offers a cache-able environment to fulfill future requirements and delivers communication services with less congestion and bandwidth in a network. The current Internet needs to enhance its architectural design for information distribution by reducing the end-to-end communication practices. ICN-based architecture aims to fulfill the end-users’ requirements and provide a better communication system compared to the current Internet system. ICN implements in-network caching (storage) to facilitate unicast and multicast mechanisms at the same time to deploy efficient and appropriate transmission of the desired information. In this situation, temporary storage is deployed all over the network to serve the requested objects (contents). In the last few years, ICN has shown up as engineering to replace the Internet design. In this paper, a comprehensive study about ICN-based caching mechanisms to enhance the IP-based Internet technologies is presented and analyzes the possible benefits using caching with the Internet of Things, Blockchain, Software Defined Network, 5G, genomic data sets, fog, and edge computing. In the end, the ICN-based caching strategies are mentioned that provide a diverse solution to deal with IP-based Internet technologies in an efficient way to deliver fast data dissemination
