Initial boundary value problems for second order impulsive functional differential inclusions

In this paper we investigate the existence of solutions for initial and boundary value problems for second order impulsive functional differential inclusions. We shall rely on a fixed point theorem for contraction multivalued maps due to Covitz and Nadler

Handwritten Arabic Documents Segmentation into Text Lines using Seam Carving

    Get PDF
Inspired from human perception and common text documents characteristics based on readability constraints, an Arabic text line segmentation approach is proposed using seam carving. Taking the gray scale of the image as input data, this technique offers better results at extracting handwritten text lines without the need for the binary representation of the document image. In addition to its fast processing time, its versatility permits to process a multitude of document types, especially documents presenting low text-to-background contrast such as degraded historical manuscripts or complex writing styles like cursive handwriting. Even if our focus in this paper was on Arabic text segmentation, this method is language independent. Tests on a public database of 123 handwritten Arabic documents showed a line detection rate of 97.5% for a matching score of 90%

Existence results for impulsive dynamic inclusions on time scales

    Get PDF
In this paper, we investigate the existence of solutions and extremal solutions for a first order impulsive dynamic inclusion on time scales. By using suitable fixed point theorems, we study the case when the right hand side has convex as well as nonconvex values

Existence results for impulsive semilinear damped differential inclusions

In this paper we investigate the existence of mild solutions for first and second order impulsive semilinear evolution inclusions in separable Banach spaces. By using suitable fixed point theorems, we study the case when the multivalued map has convex and nonconvex values

Some open questions on anti-de Sitter geometry

We present a list of open questions on various aspects of AdS geometry, that is, the geometry of Lorentz spaces of constant curvature -1. When possible we point out relations with homogeneous spaces and discrete subgroups of Lie groups, to Teichm\"uller theory, as well as analogs in hyperbolic geometry.Comment: Not a research article in the usual sense but rather a list of open questions. 19 page

L-Proline as a Green Corrosion Inhibitor in Aqueous Solutions for Carbon Steel

    Get PDF
The chemical technique was used to investigate the inhibition and adsorption properties of L-proline for steel corrosion (weight loss method). As the concentration of L-proline increased, the inhibition efficiency increased, but decreased as the temperature increased, according to the findings. The inhibitor’s adsorption to the steel surface has been shown to be random, involving both electrostatic and chemisorptions. The Temkin adsorption isotherm governs the adsorption of L-proline to the steel surface. Thermodynamic parameters have been determined in some cases

Concurrent Acquisition of a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism in Diverse Influenza H5N1 Clade 2.2 Sub-clades

    Get PDF
Highly pathogenic Influenza A H5N1 was first identified in Guangdong Province in 1996, followed by human cases in Hong Kong in 1997 1,2. The number of confirmed human cases now exceeds 300 and the associated Case Fatality Rate exceeds 60% 3. The genetic diversity of the serotype continues to increase. Four distinct clades or sub-clades have been linked to human cases 4-7. The gradual genetic changes identified in the sub-clades have been attributed to copy errors by viral encoded polymerases that lack an editing function, thereby resulting in antigenic drift 8. We report here the concurrent acquisition of the same polymorphism by multiple, genetically distinct, clade 2.2 sub-clades in Egypt, Russia, Kuwait, and Ghana. These changes are not easily explained by the current theory of “random mutation” through copy error, and are more easily explained by recombination with a common source. The recombination role is further supported by the high fidelity replication in swine influenza 9 and aggregation of single nucleotide polymorphisms in H5N1 clade 2.2 hemagglutinin 10
