Formation Flying Control Implementation in Highly Elliptical Orbits

The Tschauner-Hempel equations are widely used to correct the separation distance drifts between a pair of satellites within a constellation in highly elliptical orbits [1]. This set of equations was discretized in the true anomaly angle [1] to be used in a digital steady-state hierarchical controller [2]. This controller [2] performed the drift correction between a pair of satellites within the constellation. The objective of a discretized system is to develop a simple algorithm to be implemented in the computer onboard the satellite. The main advantage of the discrete systems is that the computational time can be reduced by selecting a suitable sampling interval. For this digital system, the amount of data will depend on the sampling interval in the true anomaly angle [3]. The purpose of this paper is to implement the discrete Tschauner-Hempel equations and the steady-state hierarchical controller in the computer onboard the satellite. This set of equations is expressed in the true anomaly angle in which a relation will be formulated between the time and the true anomaly angle domains

Social media and virality in the 2014 student protests in Venezuela: Rethinking engagement and dialogue in times of imitation

    Get PDF
This article examines the relationship between social media, political mobilization, and civic engagement in the context of the 2014 student protests in Venezuela. The study investigates whether these technologies were used by participants as a catalyst to trigger the protests and amplify them across the country or whether they were a galvanizing factor among more general conditions. The analysis uses cultural chaos and virality/contagion as theoretical approaches to discuss these events to provoke discussion about the relationship between protests and social media. However, far from a techno-deterministic assumption that sees social media as somehow having agency in itself, the authors highlight the role of social media as a platform for political engagement through imitation and emotions while rejecting false dichotomies of rationality/irrationality among the crowd

Analysis of Secchi Depths and Light Attenuation Coefficients in the Louisiana-Texas Shelf, Northern Gulf of Mexico

We analyzed Secchi depths (Zs), scalar downwelling irradiance, and transmissometer data collected during 10 cruises that spanned two and one-half years (May 1992-Nov. 1994) over the Louisiana-Texas shelf. The Zs increases from the inner shelf (depths ≤50 m) to the outer shelf and from nonsummer (Zs =10m) to summer (Zs = 14m). These changes in Zs are induced by the shelf\u27s circulation and freshwater input, both of which vary seasonally, i.e., nonsummer to summer. Optical parameters (e.g., Zs), like the circulation, divide the shelf into an inner and outer shelf along the 50-m isobath. The inner shelf contains turbid waters with low levels of light penetration and large attenuation coefficients that decrease from nonsummer to summer. The outer shelf contains clearer water with high levels of light penetration and small attenuation coefficients year round. Linear regressions between the attenuation coefficients and Zs conform to theory and vary seasonally. The scalar downwelling attenuation coefficient and Zs are inversely related with coefficients of 1.36 in summer and 1.22 in nonsummer. The beam attenuation coefficient and Zs are also inversely related with coefficients of 6.16 in summer and 5.54 in nonsummer

Gravitating sphalerons and sphaleron black holes in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime

    Get PDF
Numerical arguments are presented for the existence of spherically symmetric regular and black hole solutions of the EYMH equations with a negative cosmological constant. These solutions approach asymptotically the anti-de Sitter spacetime. The main properties of the solutions and the differences with respect to the asymptotically flat case are discussed. The instability of the gravitating sphaleron solutions is also proven.Comment: 30 pages, LaTeX, 8 Encapsulated PostScript figure

Holographic phase transition from dyons in an AdS black hole background

    Get PDF
We construct a dyon solution for a Yang-Mills-Higgs theory in a 4 dimensional Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black hole background with temperature T. We then apply the AdS/CFT correspondence to describe the strong coupling regime of a 2+1 quantum field theory which undergoes a phase transition exhibiting the condensation of a composite charge operator below a critical temperature TcT_c.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures.
