New invariants for entangled states
We propose new algebraic invariants that distinguish and classify entangled
states. Considering qubits as well as higher spin systems, we obtained complete
entanglement classifications for cases that were either unsolved or only
conjectured in the literature.Comment: published versio
High-energy radiation from T Tauri stars
T Tauri stars are young, low mass, pre-main sequence stars surrounded by an
accretion disk. These objects present strong magnetic activity and powerful
magnetic reconnection events. Strong shocks are likely produced in the stellar
magnetosphere by such events and charged particles accelerated up to
relativistic energies. We present a simple model for the non-thermal radiation
generated by high-energy particles in T Tauri stars. We discuss whether this
emission is detectable at high energies with the available gamma-ray
telescopes.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, 25th Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics

Postoperative pain and morphine consumption after ultrasound-guided femoral and sciatic combined nerve block versus neurostimulation for femoral and sciatic combined nerve block or neurostimulation for femoral nerve block in primary elective total knee arthroplasty.
Abstract Congreso XXXVII National Meeting of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology with guest society: The British Pharmacological SocietyBackground and Aims:
Total knee arthroplasty injuries are extremely painful and merit prompt attention to adequate postoperative analgesia. We aim to compare femoral and sciatic ultrasound-guided combined nerve block vs. neurostimulation for femoral and sciatic combined nerve block or for femoral nerve block in postoperative pain in primary elective total knee prosthesis.
Summary of work and outcomes:
A three arms, prospective longitudinal study of patients having primary elective unilateral knee prosthesis and randomly assigned to catheter insertion guided by ultrasound or neurostimulation was done: 1) Ultrasound-guided femoral and sciatic combined nerve block (USFSCN) (N=15); 2) Neurostimulation for femoral and sciatic combined nerve block (NSFSCN) (N=17); 3) Neurostimulation for femoral nerve block (NSFN) (N=11). Total analgesia (morphine) consumption after 48 hours was the primary endpoint. The postoperative pain intensity (visual analogue pain scale (VAS)) at post-anaesthetic recovery unit (PARU), 6, 24, 48 h, and during movement and postoperative complications were secondary outcomes.
Results and discussion:
43 patients (68.3±8 years old, 77% female) subjected to elective unilateral knee prosthesis were enrolled. There were no differences in the demographic, anaesthetic and surgical variables between groups. Pain intensity was lower in the USFSCN group compared with NSFSCN and NSFN during the first 48 h post-surgery (% of intense pain at PARU/6h/24h/48h): USFSCN 0.8/1.4/3.2/1.6; NSFSCN 5.6/8.3/7.5/3; NSFN 7.2/5.3/6.4/5.4. The average consumption of morphine within 48 h after surgery was similar in the groups USFSCN and NSFSCN (3 mg vs. 3.11 mg), and significantly lower than NSFN (4.19 mg) (p<0.05). And the number of complications was significantly lower in the USFSCN group compared with NSFSCN and NSFN during the first 48 h of postoperative.
Conclusion:
Ultrasound-guided femoral and sciatic combined nerve block presented better analgesia and was more safety than neurostimulation for femoral and sciatic combined nerve block or for femoral nerve block in primary elective total knee arthroplasty.Universidad de Málaga. The Covariance Based Law of Effect : A Fundamental Principle of Behavior
Building on George Price's formal account of selection, we present an abstract theoretical account of behavioral selection that integrates the domains of individual learning and evolution. From the perspective of the multilevel model of behavioral selection (MLBS), we argue that the covariance based law of effect (CLOE) qualifies as a fundamental principle of behavior in that it provides a general formal framework for selectionist thinking and model building. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach by means of a covariance based model of choice behavior that explains the effects of changeover delays on operant matching
Lyapunov Exponents in Random Boolean Networks
A new order parameter approximation to Random Boolean Networks (RBN) is
introduced, based on the concept of Boolean derivative. A statistical argument
involving an annealed approximation is used, allowing to measure the order
parameter in terms of the statistical properties of a random matrix. Using the
same formalism, a Lyapunov exponent is calculated, allowing to provide the
onset of damage spreading through the network and how sensitive it is to
minimal perturbations. Finally, the Lyapunov exponents are obtained by means of
different approximations: through distance method and a discrete variant of the
Wolf's method for continuous systems.Comment: 16 pages, 5 eps-figures included, article submitted to Physica
Fil: Luque, V.. would provide the first-year university student at Facultad de Lenguas with the basic foundations of
English grammar. Although this handout could be used as a self-study grammar guide, the student
should bear in mind it is meant to be used as a complement of class work. Therefore, the material
included in the present publication has not been organized according to the level of difficulty, but
rather in accordance with the syllabus of the subject. Each chapter brings along graded exercises
which have been carefully designed to improve and consolidate the grammar topics included in the
syllabus of the subject. Finally, we would like to point out that to round off each unit, we have
decided to include texts (often authentic ones) in an attempt to offer the student a new perspective
on the subject: one which relates grammatical structure systematically to meaning and use.Fil: Luque Colombres, María Candelaria. Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. SLOCC determinant invariants of order 2^{n/2} for even n qubits
In this paper, we study SLOCC determinant invariants of order 2^{n/2} for any
even n qubits which satisfy the SLOCC determinant equations. The determinant
invariants can be constructed by a simple method and the set of all these
determinant invariants is complete with respect to permutations of qubits.
SLOCC entanglement classification can be achieved via the vanishing or not of
the determinant invariants. We exemplify the method for several even number of
qubits, with an emphasis on six qubits.Comment: J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 45 (2012) 07530
