One of the main goals of Hyper-Kamiokande is the study of CP asymmetry in the lepton sector using accelerator neutrino and anti-neutrino beams. In this document, the physics potential of a long baseline neutrino experiment using the Hyper-Kamiokande detector and a neutrino beam from the J-PARC proton synchrotron is presented. The analysis has been updated from the previous Letter of Intent [K. Abe et al., arXiv:1109.3262 [hep-ex]], based on the experience gained from the ongoing T2K experiment. With a total exposure of 7.5 MW × 107 sec integrated proton beam power (corresponding to 1.56×1022 protons on target with a 30 GeV proton beam) to a 2.5-degree off-axis neutrino beam produced by the J-PARC proton synchrotron, it is expected that the CP phase δCP can be determined to better than 19 degrees for all possible values of δCP, and CP violation can be established with a statistical significance of more than 3σ (5σ) for 76 (58) of the δCP parameter space

CONTEXT. This paper presents an overview of the photometric data that are part of the first Gaia data release. AIMS. The principles of the processing and the main characteristics of the Gaia photometric data are presented. METHODS. The calibration strategy is outlined briefly and the main properties of the resulting photometry are presented. RESULTS. Relations with other broadband photometric systems are provided. The overall precision for the Gaia photometry is shown to be at the milli-magnitude level and has a clear potential to improve further in future releases

We explore the physics program of an extension to the currently approved T2K running of 7.8×1021 protons-on-target to 20×1021 protons-on-target,aiming at initial observation of CP violation with 3σ or higher significance for the case of maximum CP violation. The T2K off-axis near detector, ND280, is used to make the first differential cross section measurements of muon neutrino charged current single positive pion production on a water target at energies ∼0.8 GeV. The differential measurements are presented as a function of muon and pion kinematics, in the restricted phase-space defined by pπ+>200MeV/c, pμ−>200MeV/c, cosθπ+>0.3 and cosθμ−>0.3. The total flux integrated νμ charged current single positive pion production cross section on water in the restricted phase-space is measured to be ⟨σ⟩ϕ=4.25±0.48(stat)±1.56(syst)×10−40cm2/nucleon. The total cross section is consistent with the NEUT prediction (5.03×10−40cm2/nucleon) and 2σ lower than the GENIE prediction (7.68×10−40cm2/nucleon). The differential cross sections are in good agreement with the NEUT generator. The GENIE simulation reproduces well the shapes of the distributions, but over-estimates the overall cross section normalization

Hyper-Kamiokande will be a next generation underground water Cherenkov detector with a total (fiducial) mass of 0.99 (0.56) million metric tons, approximately 20 (25) times larger than that of Super-Kamiokande. One of the main goals of Hyper-Kamiokande is the study of CP asymmetry in the lepton sector using accelerator neutrino and anti-neutrino beams. In this document, the physics potential of a long baseline neutrino experiment using the Hyper-Kamiokande detector and a neutrino beam from the J-PARC proton synchrotron is presented. The analysis has been updated from the previous Letter of Intent [K. Abe et al., arXiv:1109.3262 [hep-ex]], based on the experience gained from the ongoing T2K experiment. With a total exposure of 7.5 MW times 107 sec integrated proton beam power (corresponding to 1.56times1022 protons on target with a 30 GeV proton beam) to a 2.5-degree off-axis neutrino beam produced by the J-PARC proton synchrotron, it is expected that the CP phase deltaCP can be determined to better than 19 degrees for all possible values of deltaCP, and CP violation can be established with a statistical significance of more than 3,sigma (5,sigma) for 76 (58) of the deltaCP parameter space

Recent measurements at the T2K experiment indicate that CP violation in neutrino mixing may be observed in the future by long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We explore the physics program of an extension to the currently approved T2K running of 7.8×1021 protons-on-target to 20×1021 protons-on-target,aiming at initial observation of CP violation with 3σ or higher significance for the case of maximum CP violation. With accelerator and beam line upgrades, as well as analysis improvements, this program would occur before the next generation of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments that are expected to start operation in 2026
