Application-layer Performance Analysis of PRIME in Smart Metering Networks

    Get PDF
This paper assesses the performance of actual PRIME v1.3.6 and PRIME v1.4 systems when used for Smart Metering applications. The analysis is performed at the application level using the DLMS/COSEM stack. Hence, it considers performance indicators that are of practical interest for distribution system operators, such as the availability and the average time needed to read the energy load profile of all the meters. To this end, two test networks with 112 smart meters have been deployed in the laboratory (to ensure the stability of the network). In one of them all the Service Nodes communicate directly with the Base Node, while there exist up to 5 switching levels in the other tested network. First, the PRIME v1.3.6 system is evaluated, stressing the significant performance gain that can be obtained by implementing some MAC layer strategies, which are compatible with the specification but not specifically defined on it. Then, the improvement offered by the PRIME v1.4 system is assessed.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Use of fresh water over the long run measuring persistence.

In this article, we carry out a study of the degree of persistence of a time series of data on freshwater use in the long term, using fractional integration or I(d) techniques. Using annual data from 1901 to 2014, we observe that the order of integration of the series is close to 1 if the errors are not correlated, and if they are correlated, then it is greater than 1. This shows that the series is highly persistent. On the other hand, we detect two structural breaks, one at 1951 and the other one at 1980. In these cases, we observe a reversion to the mean since the integration orders are much lower in the subsamples. This supports the hypothesis that when these breaks are not taken into account, there is an overestimation of the differentiation parameter, misspecifying the reversion to the mean of the data. The series also shows segmented trends with the higher time trend coefficient observed during the years 1951 and 1980.post-print395 K

Sampling Frequency Error Estimators for PRIME v1.4 systems

    Get PDF
The performance of PRIME v1.4 systems might be severely degraded by a sampling frequency offset (SFO). This work addresses the problem of the SFO estimation by means of the pilots transmitted in the header and payload symbols. Estimators based on the best linear unbiased estimation principle are proposed and the frame error rate (FER) achieved with them is assessed both in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and in a set of 174 links obtained from measurements. Results indicate that the estimator based on the header symbols suffices to achieve almost the same performance of the no SFO case. Gains are shown to be particularly important when only the highest PRIME channel is employed and uncoded DQPSK and D8PSK are used.Universidad de Málaga. Atmospheric pollution in the ten most populated US cities. Evidence of persistence

    Get PDF
The degree of persistence in daily PM25 and O3 in the ten most populated US cities, namely New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas and San Jose is examined in this work. We employ a methodology based on fractional integration, using the order of integration as a measure of the degree of persistence. Using data for the time period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020, our results indicate that fractional integration and long memory features are both present in all the examined cases, with the integration order of the series being constrained in the (0, 1) interval. Based on this, the estimation of the coefficients for the time trend produces results which are substantially different from those obtained under the I(0) assumption

Ninety cephalopod specimens were collected during the bottom trawl survey ATLANTIS 2009 undertaken between 24 February and 1 April 2009 The surveyed area was the zone between parallels 44◦and 48◦S, east of the Argentinean EEZ down to the 1500m depth on the HS of the SW Atlantic The collection was composed of 16 species of squids and 5 of octopods. The best represented groups were Histioteuthida (5 species) and Octopodidae(5). The most abundant species were Gonatusantarcticus(25.5%), Histioteuthisatlantica (11.1%), and Muusoctopuseureka (8.9%) The geographic and/or bathymetric distribution ranges of 9 species are extended, and this is the first record of Galiteuthis glacialis outside circumpolar Antarctic water

Measuring Persistence in the US Equity Gender Diversity Index

    Get PDF
An analysis of the SPDR SSGA Gender Diversity Index ETF using fractional integration or I(d) techniques and daily data from 8 March 2016 to 8 January 2021, reveals that the series is highly persistent with an order of integration smaller than, though very close to 1. However, when estimating d recursively across subsamples, two peaks can be observed. The first peak appears in the sample with 679 observations (ending at 26 December 2018) and the second one occurs in the sample with 974 observations and ending at 28 February 2020, which shows the most significant change in d, moving from values within the I(1) interval to values significantly above 1. The findings indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the persistence of the SPDR SSGA Gender Diversity Index ETF, increasing its magnitude and thus the level of persistence

Impacto de las características de la red eléctrica en canales MIMO PLC domésticos

The recent release of indoor Power Line Communications (PLC) specifications with Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) capabilities has significantly increased the bit rates achieved in these channels. However, the performance reached by the use of these methods may differ from one location to another due to the heterogeneous nature of the domestic power grid. In this work, a closer look at the relation between channel performance and the power grid cabling is taken. To that end, some channel features like attenuation, spatial correlation and capacity are analyzed by means of a set of 50 simulated channel topologies in the frequency band from 1 to 80 MHz.Universidad de Málaga. New insights into the morphology, reproduction and distribution of the large-tuberculate octopus Graneledone macrotyla from the Patagonian slope

    Get PDF
The new information reported in this paper is based on 11 specimens of the large-tuberculate octopus Graneledone macrotyla. These specimens were caught in bottom trawl surveys ATLANTIS 2009 and 2010 carried out on the Patagonian slope off the Argentinean Economic Exclusive Zone between 24 February and 1 April 2009 and from 9 March to 5 April 2010 respectively. A new diagnosis and a complete description of the species are provided. This is the first time that stylets, beaks and spermatophores are described. This is also the first time in which mature females have been studied and the female genitalia described. Like other eledonid octopods, G. macrotyla does not have spermathecae in the oviducal glands. The presence of fertilized eggs inside the ovary suggests that fertilization takes place within the ovary. The simultaneous occurrence of oocyte cohorts at different oogenic stages suggests that the species is a multiple spawner. G. macrotyla inhabits shallower waters on the Patagonian slope (475-921 m) than in the subantartic area (1647-2044 m). From a biogeographical point of view, our data show that G. macrotyla inhabits the plume of cold subantarctic waters, which is pushed far north into the southwestern Atlantic by the Falkland (Malvinas) Current.

Persistence in UK historical data on life expectancy

    Get PDF
This paper provides estimates of persistence in historical UK data on life expectancy applying fractional integration methods to both an annual series from 1842 to 2019 and a 5-year average from 1543 to 2019. This method is the most appropriate for our purposes since it is more general and fexible than the classical methods based on integer diferentiation. The results indicate that the former exhibits an upward trend and is persistent but mean reverting; the same holds for the latter, though its degree of persistence is higher. Similar results are obtained for the logged values. On the whole, this evidence suggests that the efects of shocks to the series are transitory though persistent, which is useful information for policy makers whose task is to take appropriate measures to increase life expectancy
