Luminescent and Scintillating Properties of Lanthanum Fluoride Nanocrystals in Response to Gamma/Neutron Irradiation: Codoping with Ce Activator, Yb Wavelength Shifter, and Gd Neutron Captor
A novel concept for detection and spectroscopy of gamma rays, and detection
of thermal neutrons based on codoped lanthanum fluoride nanocrystals containing
gadolinium is presented. The trends of colloidal synthesis of the mentioned
material, LaF3 co-doped with Ce as the activator, Yb as the wavelength-shifter
and Gd as the neutron captor, is reported. Nanocrystals of the mentioned
material were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray
diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), optical
absorption, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Gamma detection and its
potential spectroscopy feature have been confirmed. The neutron detection
capability has been confirmed by experiments performed using a 252Cf neutron
source.Comment: 5 figures, 16 page
Control of a 3DOF Birotor Helicopter Using Robust Control Methods
The main topic of this thesis is to exhibit how robust control techniques can be
applied to real time systems. Presently, the control techniques used in the industry are
very simple even when applied to complex systems; these techniques are intuitive and
not necessarily systematic. Moreover, the notion of optimality of robustness is absent.
Control design procedures are mostly based on SISO techniques, thus, overlooking
the intrinsic multivariable aspect of the design that a MIMO system requires.
In this thesis a modern control technique is presented to manipulate a 3DOF
birotor helicopter in real time. The objective of this research is to demonstrate the
performance of more efficient control algorithms to control these kinds of systems. The
robust method proposed in this thesis is an H infinity controller which exhibits robustness
to plant model uncertainties, and good disturbance and noise rejection
A machine learning approach for collaborative robot smart manufacturing inspection for quality control systems1-10
The 4th industrial revolution promotes the automatic inspection of all products towards a zero-defect and high-quality manufacturing. In this context, collaborative robotics, where humans and machines share the same space, comprises a suitable approach that allows combining the accuracy of a robot and the ability and flexibility of a human. This paper describes an innovative approach that uses a collaborative robot to support the smart inspection and corrective actions for quality control systems in the manufacturing process, complemented by an intelligent system that learns and adapts its behavior according to the inspected parts. This intelligent system that implements the reinforcement learning algorithm makes the approach more robust once it can learn and be adapted to the trajectory. In the preliminary experiments, it was used a UR3 robot equipped with a Force-Torque sensor that was trained to perform a path regarding a product quality inspection task. © 2020 The Authors. Social engineering program - MBA level: Designed for global education demand
Following the new trend in education, more focused on a global perspective, COPEC - Science and Education Research Council is offering an MBA, online, in Social Engineering for all Countries of CPLP - Portuguese Language Countries Community. The goal is to cover these countries' engineers, which are also seeking for opportunities, as the majority are countries of growing economy based on their very rich resources. The idea of an online program is the possibility of reaching a broader audience and at the same time of enriching the experience of offering and implementing a program that can disseminate ideas and concepts, which fits the needs of the target audience. The Education Research Team of COPEC is convinced that Engineers with proper knowledge and skills can take action in order to solve social problems, as engineers are problem solvers. This work was partly funded by FEDER funds through the Operational Competitiveness Program (COMPETE) and by FCT with the projects PEst-C/CTM/UI0264/2011 and FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-022674
torna necessário o seguimento acompanhamento e vigilância destas doentes a longo prazo
