3D simulation of complex shading affecting PV systems taking benefit from the power of graphics cards developed for the video game industry

Shading reduces the power output of a photovoltaic (PV) system. The design engineering of PV systems requires modeling and evaluating shading losses. Some PV systems are affected by complex shading scenes whose resulting PV energy losses are very difficult to evaluate with current modeling tools. Several specialized PV design and simulation software include the possibility to evaluate shading losses. They generally possess a Graphical User Interface (GUI) through which the user can draw a 3D shading scene, and then evaluate its corresponding PV energy losses. The complexity of the objects that these tools can handle is relatively limited. We have created a software solution, 3DPV, which allows evaluating the energy losses induced by complex 3D scenes on PV generators. The 3D objects can be imported from specialized 3D modeling software or from a 3D object library. The shadows cast by this 3D scene on the PV generator are then directly evaluated from the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Thanks to the recent development of GPUs for the video game industry, the shadows can be evaluated with a very high spatial resolution that reaches well beyond the PV cell level, in very short calculation times. A PV simulation model then translates the geometrical shading into PV energy output losses. 3DPV has been implemented using WebGL, which allows it to run directly from a Web browser, without requiring any local installation from the user. This also allows taken full benefits from the information already available from Internet, such as the 3D object libraries. This contribution describes, step by step, the method that allows 3DPV to evaluate the PV energy losses caused by complex shading. Development and implantation of a Thesaurus of Manufacturing Engineering terms

Present work shows the teaching-learning experience developed in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Malaga. This experience is based on the need to generate a specific glossary of manufacturing engineering terms to be used as a study guide by the students. Eventually, it was decided to make a Thesaurus that would be aimed at a teaching activity. Also, it would take part in the educational innovation project PIE 13-025 of the University of Malaga, within the biennium 2013/2015. The first step consisted of the design of Thesaurus pattern, taking into account the kind of information that it was necessary include in it. Afterward, this pattern would be place on the Virtual Campus and the student would have to complete the information required. The world trade network and the environment

This papers analyses the role of the world trade network on the environment. We rely on methods developed for social network analysis to identify the most important countries in connecting trade between all the other countries in the world trade network. We then estimate how the network or indirect effects from trade affect the environmental quality of a country. As the trade networks are endogenously determined by trade and environmental conditions, we use as instrumental variables the growth in the population of trade partners and the growth in the population of trade partners' partners to exploit exogenous variation in the world trade network. Once we simultaneously estimate the environmental, trade, income and network equations using a three-stage least square procedure, we find that network effects harm the environmental quality of developed countries but improve the environment of developing countries

El fluido magnético de Mesmer

Franz Anton Mesmer es considerado un precursor de la psiquiatría o un charlatán, en el siglo XVIII, filósofo, médico, fue capaz de ‘‘curar’’ enfermos a través de la magnetoterapia. Con las ideas de Paracelso, de que el imán podía ser más valioso que todo lo que ense˜nó Galeno, se entregó a la tarea de curar a la humanidad de todos sus males. Aplicaba el imán en forma de herradura en el cuello, en el corazón, en general en todo el cuerpo y en muchas ocasiones tenía éxitos sorprendentes. Su fama terminó cuando quiso tratar a una adolescente ciega desde la edad de 4 años, que estaba bajo la protección de la emperatriz de Austria, y antes de que fuera capturado por la policía, vendió sus bienes y se trasladó a París en donde en 1778 comenzó a realizar curas magnéticas, y fue tal la popularidad que tuvo necesidad de intervenir el propio rey Luis XIV y pidió a una comisión de médicos, físicos y químicos que determinara si era o no eficaz el tratamiento. La comisión determinó que las crisis que provocaba podían resultar peligrosas y con ello el prestigio de Mesmer terminó y salió de Francia para radicar en Alemania, en donde falleció a los 80 a˜nos de edad, y con la llegada del nuevo emperador Federico Guillermo III se prohibió la práctica del magnetismo y hasta la fecha es una interrogante en la medicina. © 2014 Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. Tratamiento de la esquizofrenia en el primer episodio psicótico. Revisión de la literatura

La esquizofrenia es un trastorno mental de carácter psicótico, crónico y grave, que se caracteriza por la ruptura de la relación del sujeto con el mundo exterior y una marcada regresión que clínicamente se manifiesta por ideas delirantes, alucinaciones, lenguaje desorganizado, comportamiento gravemente alterado o catatónico y síntomas negativos. Las alteraciones del pensamiento se manifiestan por una distorsión de la realidad, acompañada a veces de delirios y alucinaciones y de una fragmentación de las asociaciones que determina un trastorno característico del habla.La esquizofrenia es un trastorno mental psicótico, de etiología en estudio, caracterizado por alteraciones del pensamiento, del estado de ánimo y del comportamiento. Objetivo: Analizar la literatura del 2006 al 2011 acerca del manejo del primer episodio psicótico en la esquizofrenia. Material y método: Revisión sistemática de la literatura de acuerdo con criterios de la Medicina Basada en Evidencias de acuerdo con el Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) de Oxford. Resultados: De un total de 50 artículos, 23 de ellos (46%) hacen referencia a aspectos farmacológicos y 27 artículos (54%) describen intervenciones psicosociales, terapia molecular y seguimiento de tratamientos farmacológicos por estudios de neuro-imagen. Un solo artículo correspondió a nivel de evidencia 1 y grado de recomendación A. Conclusiones: El manejo de la esquizofrenia está con antipsicóticos de segunda generación y la disminución del problema se ve al final del primer ano de manejo. La adición de antagonistas alfa 2 mejora la eficacia de los fármacos antipsicóticos al reducir los síntomas negativo

Interest groups’ incentives to cooperate in the production of information in the context of the EU policy-making

The literature on information economics serves the European Commission to justify the participation of interest groups in response to problems of asymmetric information in the European Union (EU) policy-making processes. Using the framework of the agency theory, the role of interest groups as information producers is incorporated into a model where the types of conditions in which they would have the incentive to cooperate in the production of information are examined. The results of the model show that the interest group’s expected utility when acting independently is equal to the reserve utility, while it increases when acting cooperatively. It can therefore be concluded that incentives for cooperation in the production of information among interest groups exist. One potential policy implication for the EU is that the EC could decrease the conditions of the contracts, thereby diminishing the costs of obtaining information.peer-reviewe

La delimitación de la competencia sancionadora frente a las infracciones de tránsito en las municipalidades distritales

La investigación, tuvo por objetivo general determinar si las municipalidades distritales ejercen la competencia respecto a las infracciones de tránsito, a sabiendas que, según la Ley Orgánica de Municipalidades – Ley 27972, no estipula dicha competencia hacia las distritales, por ende se denota un mal ejercicio de funciones por parte de las autoridades distritales, así mismo se aplicó al trabajo, el diseño fenomenológico, con un enfoque cualitativo, método inductivo y como método de recolección de datos la entrevista; la cual anteriormente fue validada por seis expertos para conocer los criterios de cada especialista. Como resultados se obtuvo que las municipalidades distritales no están ejerciendo debidamente sus competencias dentro su propia ley y parámetros constitucionales, causando así vulneración de derechos e ilegalidades hacia los ciudadanos que en su momento se les impuso multa por infracción de tránsito. En conclusión, la investigación tuvo como fin contribuir con el cumplimiento de la norma expresa según la Constitución Política del Perú, Ley 27972.y el TUO del Reglamento Nacional de Tránsito – Código de Tránsito DS. N° 016-2009-MTC. Por tanto, se recomendó a las autoridades como la Defensoría del Pueblo, Ministerio de Transportes y Consejo de Ministros, tomar medidas a la brevedad posible con el fin de encausar a que las municipalidades distritales cumplan las atribuciones designadas
