Andalusian Economic Structure over Social Accounting Matrices from FES analysis perspective

Over the last 60 years, regional economic analysis has been interested in identifying common patterns and regularities of regional economic structure. The identification of such patterns suggests that there predictable relationships between different levels of structural regional development. Since Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) are database containing the total transactions in an economy, it is possible to use them to comparise the economic structure embedded in them. As regional SAM provide a detailed description of the economic structure, they provide a valid basis for this category of analysis. The aim of this paper is to determine those structural components and similarities in economic relationships within the regional economy (Andalusia) over a determined period of time (1990-2010), specifying the Fundamental Economic Structure (FES), quantifying and classifying their components both individual and holistic sense. The FES methodology applied in this paper is a set of complementary techniques, focused on revealing key components in the overall economy. Quantifying the features of each component will allow us ranking the core and the periphery ot the economic structure. The FES approach provide us those elements of the economy categorized like predictable, stable and important. And the features combination let us to classify the core components of the economy. The results show us the relevance of partitions related to tertiary activities. They have more probabilities to be predicted using a proxy of the size of the economy, specially in Commercial Services, Retail sales and Transport and Communications. Besides, the structure of Andalusian economy is quite stable in comparison with other regional analysis and the stability is focused in tertiary sector and some industrial activities like Electric energy, Chemical and Machinery, Refinning or Mining and Steel. In terms of importance, the connectivity analysis provide that the principal interactions are brought about Retail sales, Transport and Comunications and Other Services located in tertiary-tertiary, secondary-tertiary and primary-tertiary partitions of the economy. There are also important cells in the secondary sector in this sense like Construction, Vehicles or Refining. This type of interactions between secondary and tertiary sectors, and absence of primary activities are the main characteristics of the andalusian economy structure, with no apreciable change over period of analysis. It can be concluded that there is a temporal FES for the regional economy in Andalusia in the period of analysis and under this methodology it is possible to identify not just relevant activities but key flows of interactions in the economy and let to estimate and forecast the cell values of the core of the economy determining the degree of development of the economy

The electroformation and electroreduction of anodic films formed on silver in 0.1 M sodium hydroxide in the potential range of the Ag/Ag2O couple

    Get PDF
The complex electrochemical reactions related to the electroformation and electroreduction of silver(I) oxide films in base electrolyte were investigated by means of combined potentiodynamic techniques and potential steps. The anodic process involves the initial fast OH− ion discharge yielding OH-adsorbed species and later continues to form the silver(I) oxide layer. The latter behaves as a duplex structure anodic layer with a degree of hydration changing with depth. The electroreduction characteristics of the anodic film depend both on potential sweep and anodic charge, and the relationships of the corresponding kinetic parameters fit qualitatively with those predicted by nucleation and growth mechanisms. Activity increases of silver caused by the potential sweeps are interpreted by the simultaneous contribution of the increase in the concentration of silver active surface sites and the change in size distribution of silver electrodeposited from silver(I) oxide.Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y AplicadasFacultad de Ciencias Exacta

Complex potentiodynamic response of silver in alkaline Electrolytes in the potential range of the Ag/Ag2O Couple

The potentiodynamic behaviour of Ag in 0.1 M NaOH in the potential range of Ag2O electroformation is investigated through the application of different potential/time perturbation programmes. The splitting of the electroreduction profile which is produced under well-defined perturbation conditions and the shift of the Ag2O electroreduction E/i profile under a constant charge condition, suggest that ageing-type processes are involved in the overall electrochemical reaction. These processes are related to a probable dehydration of the Ag2O multilayer.Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y AplicadasFacultad de Ciencias Exacta

Comparative voltammetric behaviour of the silver/silver oxide electrode prepared on vitreous carbon and silver substrates

    Get PDF
The voltammetric behaviour of vitreous carbon/chemically precipitated silver hydroxide layer and silver/electrochemically formed silver oxide layer electrodes are compared. As the former type of electrode is free from silver substrate contributions during the oxidation-reduction cycles (ORC) the voltammetric data indicate the occurrence of soluble Ag(I) species in the gel-like silver hydroxide matrix. Soluble species can be formed during the ORC as a consequence of AgOH formation at the early stages of the oxidation and reduction processes. Nucleation and growth of new phases produce a non-homogeneous layer structure and a decrease in the amount of active material participating in the ORC under preset conditions.Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y Aplicada

Electrochemical and ellipsometric data related to the formation of soluble silver (I) during the potentiodynamic polarization of polycrystalline silver in basic solutions

    Get PDF
Soluble Ag(I) species is formed in the early stages of voltammetric silver electrooxidation in 0.1 M NaOH and 0.1 M NaOH + 1 M NaClO4 solutions at 25°C, as demonstrated by the rotating ring-disc technique. This result allows a reasonable interpretation of ellipsometric data obtained for the anodization of silver under different voltammetric conditions. Correspondingly, two anodic layers of different optical constants are electroformed. The hydrous Ag(I) oxide layer behaves as a porous structure with an average thickness of about 2.5 times greater than that of the anhydrous oxide.

From voice to knowledge: A proposal for a voice annotation system to support collaborative engineering design processes

    Get PDF
This paper describes a novel voice interaction mechanism for capturing and managing design knowledge within a collaborative Computer-Aided Design (CAD) environment. We present a software module for speech recognition that integrates with a CAD application to allow the automatic creation of textual annotations in a 3D model directly from voice data. Audio is transcribed automatically, resulting in a textual note that is searchable and available to other users via a Product Data Management (PDM) system, providing an intuitive mechanism to document modeling processes and design knowledge. The system consists of three functional blocks: (1) audio recording, (2) speech recognition, and (3) query management against a cloud-based service. In this paper, we justify the need for our system from a human-computer interaction standpoint and discuss the rationale of its design and implementation in the context of collaborative design communication. Finally, we discuss some application spaces that demonstrate the capability of voice annotations for capturing knowledge

Adjustable compression method for still JPEG images

    Get PDF
There are a large number of image processing applications that work with different performance requirements and available resources. Recent advances in image compression focus on reducing image size and processing time, but offer no real-time solutions for providing time/quality flexibility of the resulting image, such as using them to transmit the image contents of web pages. In this paper we propose a method for encoding still images based on the JPEG standard that allows the compression/decompression time cost and image quality to be adjusted to the needs of each application and to the bandwidth conditions of the network. The real-time control is based on a collection of adjustable parameters relating both to aspects of implementation and to the hardware with which the algorithm is processed. The proposed encoding system is evaluated in terms of compression ratio, processing delay and quality of the compressed image when compared with the standard method

Influence of some oenological practices on the aromatic and sensorial characteristics of white Verdejo wines

Changes in the aromatic composition as well as sensory characteristics in Verdejo white wines were analysed based on two factors: the winemaking methodology and the storing time of wine in bottles. The volatile components were determined by GLC-MS, and the sensory profile was designed and assessed according to the ISO 11035 standard. The results showed that when wines were made in oak barrels, either completely or partially, which means the wines were in contact with the lees, the levels of 1-octanol, ethyl heptanoate and ethyl decanoate were significantly affected (P menor que 0.05); the softness sensation was also influenced (P menor que 0.05). However, the amount of time the wines were stored in bottles significantly affected (P menor que 0.05) the levels of 1-hexanol, ethyl heptanoate, ethyl octanoate, ethyl decanoate, hexyl acetate, isoamyl acetate and isoamyl lactate and also an odour note (tropical fruit). The compounds with higher OAV values belong to the groups of esters and fatty acids. For these reasons, the composition and the quality of the aroma of Verdejo white wines appear to be significantly affected both by use of oak barrels in winemaking and the time the wines are stored in bottles
