    This article first surveys the use of the first person in medieval writing, showing its literary worth, and establishing the validity of this approach to Catalan literature. Secondly, it is suggested that Catalan fourteenth ­century noves rimades are a genre in which a substantial amount of creativity and empirical circumstance were virtually unavoidable, at least when written in a courtly environment. Both these general points of view provide the framework for a close analysis of Pere March's noves. Special attention is given to his merging of a wide range of literary traditions that interact with his different personae, either to build up courtly divertimenti (Lo compte final, Lo mal d'amor) or to epitomise chivalric culture (L'arnés del cavaller)

    La difusió de la poesia marquiana en el Renaixement peninsular va ser extraordinària: nou impressions (sense comptar-ne una de pirata) entre 1539 i 1579, a més d'altres esforços que no van arribar a la impremta. Aquesta activitat, que inclou diverses traduccions al castellà, troba correspondència en una llarga nòmina d'imitadors a partir de Boscán (Joan Boscà, 1488/9-1542), autèntic focus d'aquesta irradiació. En aquest article es vol esbossar, per la via pràctica, l'íntima relació entre l'operació d'imitar i la de traduir. També s'hi il·lustraran algunes raons literàries que condicionen les tries i els resultats dels traductors. L'anàlisi aconsella suspendre els judicis de valor moderns i, per virtut del punt de vista històric, potser es pot projectar a l'actualitat.Ausiàs March poetry enjoyed an extraordinary diffusion in the Iberian Peninsula during the Renaissance: nine printings (plus one reproduced without permission) between 1539 and 1579, apart from several other efforts that were not printed. The activity includes several translations into Spanish, and it found a parallel in a long list of imitators, starting with Boscán (Joan Boscà, 1488/9-1542), the true focus of the literary spread. This paper deals, in a practical way, with the intimate relationship between the practices of imitation and translation in this context. Several literary reasons conditioning the translators' choices and results will also be illustrated. The final analysis shows that modern judgements of value should be suspended; it could also be brought to the present, by virtue of the historical point of vue adopted in the study
