    A simulation of weak-light phase-locking for space laser interferometer

    A simulation was investigated to better understand the impacts and effects of the additional technical noises on weak-light phase-locking for space laser interferometer. The result showed that the locking precision was limited by the phase readout noise when the laser frequency noise and clock jitter noise were removed, and this result was then confirmed by a benchtop experimental test.     The Spread of Infectious Disease with Household-Structure on the Complex Networks

    In this paper we study the household-structure SIS epidemic spreading on general complex networks. The household structure gives us the way to distinguish inner and the outer infection rate. Unlike household-structure models on homogenous networks, such as regular and random networks, here we consider heterogeneous networks with arbitrary degree distribution p(k). First we introduce the epidemic model. Then rate equations under mean field appropriation and computer simulations are used here to analyze our model. Some unique phenomena only existing in divergent network with household structure is found, while we also get some similar conclusions that some simple geometrical quantities of networks have important impression on infection property of infectous disease. It seems that in our model even when local cure rate is greater than inner infection rate in every household, disease still can spread on scale-free network. It implies that no disease is spreading in every single household, but for the whole network, disease is spreading. Since our society network seems like this structure, maybe this conclusion remind us that during disease spreading we should pay more attention on network structure than local cure condition.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure

    Controlling anomalous stresses in soft field-responsive systems

    We report a new phenomenon occurring in field-responsive suspensions: shear-induced anomalous stresses. Competition between a rotating field and a shear flow originates a multiplicity of anomalous stress behaviors in suspensions of bounded dimers constituted by induced dipoles. The great variety of stress regimes includes non-monotonous behaviors, multi-resonances, negative viscosity effect and blockades.     Identification of Sitobion avenae F. resistance and genetic diversity of wheat landraces from Qinling Mountains, China

    The aphid Sitobion avenae F. is one of the most harmful pests of wheat growth in the world. A primary field screening test was carried out to evaluate the S. avenae resistance of 527 wheat landraces from Shaanxi. The results indicated that 25 accessions (4.74%) were resistant to S. avenae in the three consecutive seasons, of which accession S849 was highly resistant, and seven accessions were moderately resistant. The majority of S. avenae resistant accessions come from Qinling Mountains. Then, the genetic variability of a set of 33 accessions (25 S. avenae resistant and 8 S. avenae susceptible) originating from Qinling Mountains have been assessed by 20 morphological traits and 99 simple sequence repeat markers (SSRs). Morphological traits and SSRs displayed a high level of genetic diversity within 33 accessions. The clustering of the accessions based on morphological traits and SSR markers showed significant discrepancy according to the geographical distribution, resistance to S. avenae and species of accessions. The highly and moderately resistant landrace accessions were collected from the middle and the east part of Qinling Mountains with similar morphology characters, for example slender leaves with wax, lower leaf area, and high ear density.     Diffusion in Stationary Flow from Mesoscopic Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics

    We analyze the diffusion of a Brownian particle in a fluid under stationary flow. By using the scheme of non-equilibrium thermodynamics in phase space, we obtain the Fokker-Planck equation which is compared with others derived from kinetic theory and projector operator techniques. That equation exhibits violation of the fluctuation dissipation-theorem. By implementing the hydrodynamic regime described by the first moments of the non-equilibrium distribution, we find relaxation equations for the diffusion current and pressure tensor, allowing us to arrive at a complete description of the system in the inertial and diffusion regimes. The simplicity and generality of the method we propose, makes it applicable to more complex situations, often encountered in problems of soft condensed matter, in which not only one but more degrees of freedom are coupled to a non-equilibrium bath.Comment: 10 pages, accepted in Phys.     Protons in near earth orbit

    The proton spectrum in the kinetic energy range 0.1 to 200 GeV was measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS-91 at an altitude of 380 km. Above the geomagnetic cutoff the observed spectrum is parameterized by a power law. Below the geomagnetic cutoff a substantial second spectrum was observed concentrated at equatorial latitudes with a flux ~ 70 m^-2 sec^-1 sr^-1. Most of these second spectrum protons follow a complicated trajectory and originate from a restricted geographic region.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, 7 .eps figure

    Search for antihelium in cosmic rays

    The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown on the space shuttle Discovery during flight STS-91 in a 51.7 degree orbit at altitudes between 320 and 390 km. A total of 2.86 * 10^6 helium nuclei were observed in the rigidity range 1 to 140 GV. No antihelium nuclei were detected at any rigidity.
