Spin structure and longitudinal polarization of hyperon in e+e- annihilation at high energies

    Get PDF
Longitudinal polarizations of different kinds of hyperons produced in e+e- annihilation at LEP I and LEP II energies in different event samples are calculated using two different pictures for the spin structure of hyperon: that drawn from polarized deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering data or that using SU(6) symmetric wave functions. The result shows that measurements of such polarizations should provide useful information to the question of which picture is more suitable in describing the spin effects in the fragmentation processes.Comment: 26 pages with 10 figures. Hyperon polarization in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering at high energy

    Get PDF
We calculate the polarizations for different octet hyperons produced in the current fragmentation regions of the deeply inelastic lepton-nucleon scatterings μ−N→μ−HX\mu^-N \to \mu^- HX and νμN→μ−HX\nu_{\mu} N \to \mu^- HX at high energy using different models for spin transfer in fragmentation processes. The results show that measurements of those hyperon polarizations should provide useful information to distinguish between different models in particular the SU(6) and the DIS pictures used frequently in the literature. We found, in particular, that measuring the polarization of Σ+\Sigma^+ produced in these processes can give a better test to the validity of the different spin transfer models.Comment: 30 pages, 13 figure

Periodic Pattern Detection for Real-Time Application

Abstract. Digital video stabilization approaches typically degrade their performances in presence of periodic patterns. Any kind of matching between consecutive frames is not usually able to work in presence of these kind of signals: the motion estimation engine is deceived and its performances degrade abruptly. In this paper we propose a fast fuzzy classifier able to recognize periodic and aperiodic pattern in the images that takes into account the peculiarities of digital video stabilization. Finally, the proposed classifier can be used as a filtering module in a block based video stabilization approach. Key words: Video Stabilization, periodic pattern, fuzzy classifier

From Tetraquark to Hexaquark: A Systematic Study of Heavy Exotics in the Large NcN_c Limit

    Get PDF
A systematic study of multiquark exotics with one or Nc−1N_c-1 heavy quarks in the large NcN_c limit is presented. By binding a chiral soliton to a heavy meson, either a normal NcN_c-quark baryon or an exotic (Nc+2)(N_c+2)-quark baryon is obtained. By replacing the heavy quark with Nc−1N_c-1 heavy antiquarks, exotic (2Nc−2)(2N_c-2)-quark and 2Nc2N_c-quark mesons are obtained. When Nc=3N_c = 3, they are just the normal triquark baryon QqqQqq, the exotic pentaquark baryon QqˉqˉqˉqˉQ\bar q\bar q\bar q\bar q, tetraquark di-meson QˉQˉqq\bar Q \bar Q qq and the hexaquark di-baryon QˉQˉqˉqˉ barqqˉ\bar Q \bar Q \bar q \bar q\ bar q \bar q respectively. Their stabilities and decays are also discussed. In particular, it is shown that the ``heavy to heavy'' semileptonic decays are described by the Isgur--Wise form factors of the normal baryons.Comment: 14 pages in REVTeX, no Figure

Research on the Assembly Pattern of MMC Bolted Flange Joint

AbstractIn a Metal-to-Metal Contact (MMC) bolted flange joint the stress of sealing surfaces is constant. It canwithstand higherbolt load. So, under the operating conditions of high temperature, high pressure or their fluctuations, the sealing effect of MMC bolted flange joints is better than of floating (FLT) bolted flange joints. According to the structure characteristics of MMC bolted flange joints, a new tightening method (SH-Method) was recommended in this work. The bolt forces during the tightening process of a MMC bolted flange joint with SH-Method were calculated and analyzed with the finite element analysis Software ANSYS. The calculating model and results were experimentally verified. Both calculating and experimentally results showed, the new tightening method ‘SH-Method’has the advantages of fewer steps, simpler operation, more uniform bolt force, and better sealing effect, compared to the star pattern and the alternative pattern #3 of ASME PCC-1, in which only the pattern methods for FLT flange joints are recommended

Hyperon polarization in \nu_\mu charged current interaction at the NOMAD energies

We show that, in νμN→μ−ΛX\nu_\mu N\to \mu^-\Lambda X at the NOMAD energies, it is impossible to separate the products of the fragmentation of the struck quark from those of the nucleon remnant. The latter has a large contribution even in the current fragmentation region and has to be taken into account in calculating Λ\Lambda polarization using different pictures. Based on this, we make a rough estimation for the longitudinal Λ\Lambda polarization in νμN→μ−ΛX\nu_{\mu} N \to \mu^- \Lambda X at the NOMAD energies. A comparison with the data is given and predictions for νμN→μ−Σ+X\nu_\mu N\to\mu^-\Sigma^+X are presented.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure

Analysis of the Y(4140) and related molecular states with QCD sum rules

    In this article, we assume that there exist scalar D∗Dˉ∗{D}^\ast {\bar {D}}^\ast, Ds∗Dˉs∗{D}_s^\ast {\bar {D}}_s^\ast, B∗Bˉ∗{B}^\ast {\bar {B}}^\ast and Bs∗Bˉs∗{B}_s^\ast {\bar {B}}_s^\ast molecular states, and study their masses using the QCD sum rules. The numerical results indicate that the masses are about (250−500)MeV(250-500) \rm{MeV} above the corresponding D∗−Dˉ∗{D}^\ast -{\bar {D}}^\ast, Ds∗−Dˉs∗{D}_s^\ast -{\bar {D}}_s^\ast, B∗−Bˉ∗{B}^\ast -{\bar {B}}^\ast and Bs∗−Bˉs∗{B}_s^\ast -{\bar {B}}_s^\ast thresholds, the Y(4140) is unlikely a scalar Ds∗Dˉs∗{D}_s^\ast {\bar {D}}_s^\ast molecular state. The scalar D∗Dˉ∗D^\ast {\bar D}^\ast, Ds∗Dˉs∗D_s^\ast {\bar D}_s^\ast, B∗Bˉ∗B^\ast {\bar B}^\ast and Bs∗Bˉs∗B_s^\ast {\bar B}_s^\ast molecular states maybe not exist, while the scalar D′∗D′ˉ∗{D'}^\ast {\bar {D'}}^\ast, D′s∗D′ˉs∗{D'}_s^\ast {\bar {D'}}_s^\ast, B′∗B′ˉ∗{B'}^\ast {\bar {B'}}^\ast and B′s∗B′ˉs∗{B'}_s^\ast {\bar {B'}}_s^\ast molecular states maybe exist.Comment: 19 pages, 36 figures, slight revisio

Directed assembly of defined oligomeric photosynthetic reaction centres through adaptation with programmable extra-membrane coiled-coil interfaces

A challenge associated with the utilisation of bioenergetic proteins in new, synthetic energy transducing systems is achieving efficient and predictable self-assembly of individual components, both natural and man-made, into a functioning macromolecular system. Despite progress with water-soluble proteins, the challenge of programming self-assembly of integral membrane proteins into non-native macromolecular architectures remains largely unexplored. In this work it is shown that the assembly of dimers, trimers or tetramers of the naturally monomeric purple bacterial reaction centre can be directed by augmentation with an α-helical peptide that self-associates into extra-membrane coiled-coil bundle. Despite this induced oligomerisation the assembled reaction centres displayed normal spectroscopic properties, implying preserved structural and functional integrity. Mixing of two reaction centres modified with mutually complementary α-helical peptides enabled the assembly of heterodimers in vitro, pointing to a generic strategy for assembling hetero-oligomeric complexes from diverse modified or synthetic components. Addition of two coiled-coil peptides per reaction centre monomer was also tolerated despite the challenge presented to the pigment-protein assembly machinery of introducing multiple self-associating sequences. These findings point to a generalised approach where oligomers or longer range assemblies of multiple light harvesting and/or redox proteins can be constructed in a manner that can be genetically-encoded, enabling the construction of new, designed bioenergetic systems in vivo or in vitro
