    Left-symmetric algebroids

In this paper, we introduce a notion of a left-symmetric algebroid, which is a generalization of a left-symmetric algebra from a vector space to a vector bundle. The left multiplication gives rise to a representation of the corresponding sub-adjacent Lie algebroid. We construct left-symmetric algebroids from O\mathcal O-operators on Lie algebroids. We study phase spaces of Lie algebroids in terms of left-symmetric algebroids. Representations of left-symmetric algebroids are studied in detail. At last, we study deformations of left-symmetric algebroids, which could be controlled by the second cohomology class in the deformation cohomology.Comment: 21 page

Two new species of Coniopteryx Curtis from China (Neuroptera, Coniopterygidae)

Two new species of Coniopterygidae, Coniopteryx (Coniopteryx) tenuisetosa sp. nov., and Coniopteryx (Coniopteryx) serrata sp. nov., are described from China. Both species differ from congeners in characters of the male genitalia. Coniopteryx (Coniopteryx) alticola Sziraki, 2002, is recorded from China for the first time. A key to species of the genus Coniopteryx from China is presented

Higher achievers? Mobility programmes, generic skills and academic learning: a UK case study

The received wisdom is that mobility programmes considerably contribute to students in terms of the development of generic skills, language and multicultural competence and competitive advantage in global labour market. Surprisingly, the impacts of mobility programmes on academic learning have received very limited research interest in the literature. This study uses students enrolled on international management and modern languages degrees in a British university to investigate the benefits of a yearlong study abroad programme, on the development of linguistic and multicultural skills measured by their academic results pre- and post- international mobility. Using a control group of students who stay on campus, quantitative data drawn from a longitudinal study over eight years conclusively suggest that study abroad students academically outperform control group students after controlling for gender, domicile, ethnicity, socio-economic status, prior academic performance and age. The implications of these results on higher education and policy making are discussed

    ET3D: Efficient Text-to-3D Generation via Multi-View Distillation

Recent breakthroughs in text-to-image generation has shown encouraging results via large generative models. Due to the scarcity of 3D assets, it is hardly to transfer the success of text-to-image generation to that of text-to-3D generation. Existing text-to-3D generation methods usually adopt the paradigm of DreamFusion, which conducts per-asset optimization by distilling a pretrained text-to-image diffusion model. The generation speed usually ranges from several minutes to tens of minutes per 3D asset, which degrades the user experience and also imposes a burden to the service providers due to the high computational budget. In this work, we present an efficient text-to-3D generation method, which requires only around 8 msms to generate a 3D asset given the text prompt on a consumer graphic card. The main insight is that we exploit the images generated by a large pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model, to supervise the training of a text conditioned 3D generative adversarial network. Once the network is trained, we are able to efficiently generate a 3D asset via a single forward pass. Our method requires no 3D training data and provides an alternative approach for efficient text-to-3D generation by distilling pre-trained image diffusion models
