Comment on "The complete Schwarzschild interior and exterior solution in the harmonic coordinate system" [J. Math. Phys. 39, 6086 (1998)]

In a recent paper Liu considered the complete Schwarzschild interior and exterior solution in harmonic coordinates. There he argued about the necessity to keep an integration constant, in contrast with previous treatments. The purpose of this comment is to show that the above conclusion cannot be traced from the matching conditions between the vacuum exterior and the uniform density interior perfect fluid, as claimed.Comment: 1999 paper, posted for on-line avalabilit

This article describes the mystery of a long lost codex of Archimedes that resurfaced briefly at the turn of the last century by Johan Ludwig Heiberg. Long enough for the Danish historian of mathematics Heiberg to identify, photograph and eventually transcribe "The Method" and several other works by Archimedes of considerable mathematical interest. In 1879 Heiberg completed his dissertation, Quaestiones Archimedeae, devoted to Archimedes' life, works, and transmission of his texts.

Transverse Lepton Polarization in Polarized W Decays

    Get PDF
Calculations of transverse polarization of leptons in the decay WlνW\rightarrow l\nu with polarized WW's are presented. Planned accelerators will produce enough WW's for observation of the Standard Model contributions to this polarization. One loop corrections to the polarization are given; these are too small to be seen at presently available WW sources. The exchange of Majorons will contribute to these polarizations; these may provide limits on the couplings of these particles to leptons.Comment: 8 pages set in RevTex III and 4 uucompressed figures. This revised version studies polarization effects due to the exchange of charged Majoron doublet

Stable bundles as Frobenius morphism direct image

Let X be a smooth projective curve of genus g2g\geq 2 defined over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p>0p>0 and let F:XX1F:X\rightarrow X_{1} be the relative k-linear Frobenius map. We prove (Theorem 1.1) E is a stable bundle on X1X_{1} with I(E)=(p1)(2g2)I(E)= (p-1)(2g-2) if and only if E is the direct image of some stable bundle W on XX.Comment: 4 page
