    A Normative Study on English Translation of Metro Public Signs in China under the Cognitive Translatology: A Case Study of Chengdu the Host City for the Universiade

    With the acceleration of its internationalization, China is faced with epochal task of optimizing its international-standard linguistic environment, which is especially impending for Chengdu, the host city for the Universiade. The neo-analysis, at first, sorts out and analyzes different versions of official translation norms for toponyms through document research, as well as from the first-hand resources on public signs of rail transit from TFL and MTA, and then, continues the empirical case study under the theoretical guidance of Cognitive Translatology. This paper has proposed several translation principles and a new method - Conceptual Motivation Mapping - for public signs, attempting to explore the way to build up its international discourse system consistent with the status of Chengdu as a global hub

    Multi-Perspective Fusion Network for Commonsense Reading Comprehension

    Commonsense Reading Comprehension (CRC) is a significantly challenging task, aiming at choosing the right answer for the question referring to a narrative passage, which may require commonsense knowledge inference. Most of the existing approaches only fuse the interaction information of choice, passage, and question in a simple combination manner from a \emph{union} perspective, which lacks the comparison information on a deeper level. Instead, we propose a Multi-Perspective Fusion Network (MPFN), extending the single fusion method with multiple perspectives by introducing the \emph{difference} and \emph{similarity} fusion\deleted{along with the \emph{union}}. More comprehensive and accurate information can be captured through the three types of fusion. We design several groups of experiments on MCScript dataset \cite{Ostermann:LREC18:MCScript} to evaluate the effectiveness of the three types of fusion respectively. From the experimental results, we can conclude that the difference fusion is comparable with union fusion, and the similarity fusion needs to be activated by the union fusion. The experimental result also shows that our MPFN model achieves the state-of-the-art with an accuracy of 83.52\% on the official test set

    Electric field-assisted orientation of short phosphate glass fibers on stainless steel for biomedical applications

    Structural and compositional modifications of metallic implant surfaces are being actively investigated to achieve improved bone-to-implant bonding. In this study, a strategy to modify bulk metallic surfaces by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of short phosphate glass fibers (sPGF) is presented. Random and aligned orientation of sPGF embedded in a poly(acrylic acid) matrix is achieved by vertical and horizontal EPD, respectively. The influence of EPD parameters on the degree of alignment is investigated to pave the way for the fabrication of highly aligned sPGF structures in large areas. Importantly, the oriented sPGF structure in the coating, owing to the synergistic effects of bioactive composition and fiber orientation, plays an important role in directional cell migration and enhanced proliferation. Moreover, gene expression of MC3T3-E1 cells cultured with different concentrations of sPGF is thoroughly assessed to elucidate the potential stimulating effect of sPGF on osteogenic differentiation. This study represents an innovative exploitation of EPD to develop textured surfaces by orientation of fibers in the macroscale, which shows great potential for directional functionalization of metallic implants

    Leader humility and employees’ creative performance: the role of intrinsic motivation and work engagement

    Drawing on the job demand-resource (JD-R) model and self-determination theory (SDT), this study examines the relationship between humble leadership and employees’ creative performance, taking into account the sequential mediating role of intrinsic motivation and work engagement. The sequential mediation model was tested using two-wave questionnaire data collected from employees and their supervisors (n = 350) in the telecommunication sector of Pakistan. Data were processed and examined using SPSS and AMOS. The results revealed significant positive relationships among all variables. Further, it was found that intrinsic motivation and work engagement sequentially but partially mediated the positive relationship between humble leadership and creative performance. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed at the end

    Similarities between wheels and tracks: A "tire model" for tracked vehicles

    As an important component of land transportation systems, tracked vehicles (TRVs) and wheeled vehicles (WVs) have developed independently in parallel, particularly in the modeling of vehicle-ground interactions. However, their differences are not as significant as they appear. This paper introduces a simplified terramechanics-based track-ground interaction model for the motion control of TRVs on firm ground. The simplified interaction model addresses the problem that the terramechanicsbased models are too complex to be applied to optimizationbased real-time control algorithms. Interestingly, the proposed track-ground interaction model closely resembles to the tire model used for WVs. Through comparison, we present the unified mechanisms underlying vehicle-ground interactions. In our approach, TRVs can be treated as a special type of skid-steer WV, which benefits the theories and methods of wheel vehicles to be deployed in the TRV domain. Finally, we verify the proposed interaction model with extensive dynamic data from a real dual motor-driven TRV to demonstrate its effectiveness

    Hyperosmotic cold shock mouse melanoma cells encapsulated with doxorubicin for targeted treatment of melanoma

    BackgroundThe primary treatment strategies for melanoma include surgical excision, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. However, the efficacy of these treatments is often limited by drug resistance, recurrence, and severe side effects. Therefore, we aimed to develop a targeted drug delivery system capable of selectively locating tumor sites to minimize systemic toxicity and enhance therapeutic efficacy. This cell drug delivery system can also deliver chemotherapeutic drugs to the tumor microenvironment.MethodsWe treated B16F10 cells with hyperosmotic cold shock (HCS) to obtain and characterize HCS cells. We then investigated the anti-tumor effects and immune activation capabilities of these cells and explored their potential as a targeted drug delivery system.ResultsHCS cells not only maintained an intact cellular structure and tumor antigens but also exhibited high expression of the homologous melanoma-associated antigen glycoprotein 100. These cells demonstrated an exceptional capacity for loading and releasing doxorubicin, which has chemotherapeutic anti-tumor effects. HCS cells can precisely target the tumor microenvironment to minimize systemic toxicity, inducing an immune response by activating CD3+ and CD4+ T cells.ConclusionHCS cells are non-carcinogenic, with both cellular and tumor antigens intact; thus, they are suitable drug delivery carriers. Our findings highlight the potential of HCS cells for carrying doxorubicin because of their high drug-loading efficiency, effective tumor-targeting and anti-tumor effects. Therefore, our results will facilitate the development of melanoma treatments that have higher efficacy than those in the literature

    Undoped Strained Ge Quantum Well with Ultrahigh Mobility Grown by Reduce Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition

    We fabricate an undoped Ge quantum well under 30 nm Ge0.8Si0.2 shallow barrier with reverse grading technology. The under barrier is deposited by Ge0.8Si0.2 followed by Ge0.9Si0.1 so that the variation of Ge content forms a sharp interface which can suppress the threading dislocation density penetrating into undoped Ge quantum well. And the Ge0.8Si0.2 barrier introduces enough in-plane parallel strain -0.41% in the Ge quantum well. The heterostructure field-effect transistors with a shallow buried channel get a high two-dimensional hole gas (2DHG) mobility over 2E6 cm2/Vs at a low percolation density of 2.51 E-11 cm2. We also discover a tunable fractional quantum Hall effect at high densities and high magnetic fields. This approach defines strained germanium as providing the material basis for tuning the spin-orbit coupling strength for fast and coherent quantum computation.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

    Non-contrast computed tomography-based radiomics for staging of connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease

    Rationale and introductionIt is of significance to assess the severity and predict the mortality of patients with connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD). In this double-center retrospective study, we developed and validated a radiomics nomogram for clinical management by using the ILD-GAP (gender, age, and pulmonary physiology) index system.Materials and methodsPatients with CTD-ILD were staged using the ILD-GAP index system. A clinical factor model was built by demographics and CT features, and a radiomics signature was developed using radiomics features extracted from CT images. Combined with the radiomics signature and independent clinical factors, a radiomics nomogram was constructed and evaluated by the area under the curve (AUC) from receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses. The models were externally validated in dataset 2 to evaluate the model generalization ability using ROC analysis.ResultsA total of 245 patients from two clinical centers (dataset 1, n = 202; dataset 2, n = 43) were screened. Pack-years of smoking, traction bronchiectasis, and nine radiomics features were used to build the radiomics nomogram, which showed favorable calibration and discrimination in the training cohort {AUC, 0.887 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.827–0.940]}, the internal validation cohort [AUC, 0.885 (95% CI: 0.816–0.922)], and the external validation cohort [AUC, 0.85 (95% CI: 0.720–0.919)]. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that the nomogram outperformed the clinical factor model and radiomics signature in terms of clinical usefulness.ConclusionThe CT-based radiomics nomogram showed favorable efficacy in predicting individual ILD-GAP stages
