Crisis as a subject of consciousness socialphilosophical analysis

The article discusses the concept of "crisis" as a transitional state of society; examines the concept of "crisis of consciousness", understood, first, as a special state of mind and the nature of social thinking, and secondly, as a kind of social historical consciousness, the center of which is the thesis about the radical inconsistency of the values of Western civilization. It is alleged the relationship of cultural crisis and crisis of consciousness, which had a huge influence on the spiritual condition of modern society.

Unique and complementary information on shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient Pb region derived from Coulomb excitation

    Get PDF
Neutron-deficient isotopes of Pt–Hg–Pb–Po–Rn are the classic region in the investigation of shape coexistence in atomic nuclei. A large programme of Coulomb-excitation experiments has been undertaken at the REX-ISOLDE facility in CERN with a number of even–even isotopes in this region. These experiments have been used to probe the electromagnetic properties of yrast and non-yrast states of even–even exotic nuclei, above and below Z = 82. Amongst a large amount of different complementary techniques used to study nuclear structure, Coulomb excitation brings substantial and unique information detailing shape coexistence. In this paper we review the Coulomb-excitation campaign at REX-ISOLDE in the light-lead region together with most recently obtained results. Furthermore, we present some new interpretations that arise from this data and show testing comparisons to state-of-the-art nuclear models

Purpose: A burgeoning body of research has described how the blockchain technology may affect the way firms operate within the recording industry which has undergone profound changes due to the dematerialisation of music and the emergence of now consumption habits. The purpose of the paper is to explore both the challenges and the opportunities related to the application of smart contracts and blockchain mechanisms to the recording industry. Approach/Methodology/Design: Based on a review of contributions made to the literature in various fields, we discuss recent developments, relying on several examples and use cases which bring an updated perspective to a topical question. While the blockchain brings interesting solutions in favour of an improved management of copyright data and fees collection, several barriers impede their uptake and large-scale adoption. Findings: We argue that the absence of both technological and regulatory standards, the resistance to change, and the necessary use of cryptocurrency, are all obstacles to a profound transformation of the sector. Practical Implications: To overcome these limitations, we suggest three recommendations that deal with technological standards, cooperative agreements, and international regulation around blockchain. Originality/Value: So far, the literature tends to focus either on blockchain technology or on smart contracts when discussing technological evolution within the recording industry. In this paper, we bring together these two elements which are definitely complementory to each other. Further research efforts are required to investigate in more details the feasibility and relevance of the recommendations we make.peer-reviewe

Anticonvulsant valproic acid and other short-chain fatty acids as novel anticancer therapeutics: Possibilities and challenges

    Get PDF
Results from numerous pre-clinical studies suggest that a well known anticonvulsant drug valproic acid (VPA) and other short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) cause significant inhibition of cancer cell proliferation by modulating multiple signaling pathways. First of all, they act as histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors (HDIs), being involved in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression. Afterward, VPA is shown to induce apoptosis and cell differentiation, as well as regulate Notch signaling. Moreover, it up-regulates the expression of certain G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are involved in various signaling pathways associated with cancer. As a consequence, some pre-clinical and clinical trials were carried out to estimate anticancer effectiveness of VPA, in monotherapy and in new drug combinations, while other SCFAs were tested in pre-clinical studies. The present manuscript summarizes the most important information from the literature about their potent anticancer activities to show some future perspectives related to epigenetic therapy

Israeli literature is replete with examples of politically engaged poetry, written as a voice of protest and an expression of grief caused by the aftermath of Israel’s policy toward the Palestinian Authority. The poems selected for this study were written by several Israeli authors over the last three decades. The works by Yehuda Amichai, Tuvya Rübner, Meir Wieseltier, David Avidan, Aharon Shabtai, Avner Treinin and Aryeh Sivan concern the issues of mourning, forgiveness, wrath and disgust in the face of war. The analysis is an attempt to look at the recent Hebrew poetry through the prism of grammatical forms associated with the first and second person plural (‘we’ and ‘you’). It is an attempt to examine their function in the poems and the way they create the poetic vision of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
