In 2016, Sheridan College launched a Citation Campaign event to promote a culture of Academic Integrity on campus. A variety activities were hosted at three campuses to not only engage students in a conversation about plagiarism, but also share citation resources through clinics, games, booths, and giveaways. As a cross campus partnership that involved staff, tutors, and peer mentors, the Citation Campaign reached students from a diverse range of programs. Crafting Well-being: A Scoping Review of the Benefits of Participation in Fibre Craft Communities and Implications for Activities for Older Adults

The COVID-19 pandemic brought into sharp focus the need for positive mental health and well-being as communities at large, and older adults in particular, struggle to cope with social isolation, loneliness, stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. At the same time, there has been a resurgence of interest in traditional home-based crafts that are both compatible with social distancing requirements, yet fulfill one’s passion for fibre craft. This paper reviews the literature to understand the ways in which participation in fibre craft communities, organized as informal or formal collectives of people, contributed to their well-being. Nineteen articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed for this scoping review. The findings show that participants of fibre craft communities perceived overlapping benefits of craft-related activities that corresponded with several aspects of well-being. The paper discusses how knowledge from this scoping review can be used to guide the development of activities for older adults

Crochet Connections: An Intergenerational Fibre Craft Project was a research study that brought together Sheridan students and older adults from the community to participate in a crochet group. The research team examined whether an intergenerational group, organized as an activity-based program, could positively benefit participant well-being. This report outlines results from an eight-week crochet program implemented in Fall 2022 at Sheridan College’s Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario. As an outcome of the crochet group, seven handmade blankest were donated to charity. The study was approved by Sheridan’s Research Ethics Board and funded by a 2022 Sheridan Generator Growth Grant

A chromosome walk linking the gatA and alcC genes of Aspergillus nidulans

The amdA gene of Aspergillus nidulans has been mapped to linkage group VII, between the gatA and alcC genes (Jones and Sealy- Lewis 1990 Curr. Genet. 17:81-85). As clones of both of the genes flanking amdA were available, they were used as starting points for chromosome walking towards amdA. The relative orientation of these genes on linkage group VII was not known at the time. Therefore, both walks extended in both directions until overlapping clones from the different walks were detected. The total distance covered by all walks is approximately 240 kb

Isiksuse omadused enda ja teise inimese perspektiivist vaadatuna: vanuse ja soolised erinevused

    Get PDF
