Four facets of a process modeling facilitator
Business process modeling as a practice and research field has received great attention in recent years. However, while related artifacts such as models, tools or grammars have substantially matured, comparatively little is known about the activities that are conducted as part of the actual act of process modeling. Especially the key role of the modeling facilitator has not been researched to date. In this paper, we propose a new theory-grounded, conceptual framework describing four facets (the driving engineer, the driving artist, the catalyzing engineer, and the catalyzing artist) that can be used by a facilitator. These facets with behavioral styles have been empirically explored via in-depth interviews and additional questionnaires with experienced process analysts. We develop a proposal for an emerging theory for describing, investigating, and explaining different behaviors associated with Business Process Modeling Facilitation. This theory is an important sensitizing vehicle for examining processes and outcomes from process modeling endeavors
CHALLENGES IN ESTABLISHING SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION
Within the field of information systems an interest in environmental issues has driven the agenda for research from green IT improvement to sustainable innovation. A challenge yet to investigate is how sustainable innovation involving a cluster of actors from multiple settings should be 1) designed and 2) orchestrated so that the innovation performed enables sustainable change. Processes for launching sustainable innovation should consequently be analysed in order to further investigate this notion. In northern Europe there is today a strong drive towards enabling initiatives utilizing mobile information technology improving the everyday transportation of people. This paper analysis the launch of a research and innovation cluster with the aim to develop information infrastructures and processes that stimulate distributed development of digital services for everyday travel. Events performed during the two-year start-up have been analysed identifying essential actions for network design and innovation orchestration, creating hypotheses, which enables further research about the establishment of sustainable innovation
Transgendered in Alaska: Navigating the Changing Legal Landscape for Change in Gender Petitions
Background: Detecting intracellular bacterial symbionts can be challenging when they persist at very low densities. Wolbachia, a widespread bacterial endosymbiont of invertebrates, is particularly challenging. Although it persists at high titers in many species, in others its densities are far below the detection limit of classic end-point Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). These low-titer infections can be reliably detected by combining PCR with DNA hybridization, but less elaborate strategies based on end-point PCR alone have proven less sensitive or less general. Results: We introduce a multicopy PCR target that allows fast and reliable detection of A-supergroup Wolbachia -even at low infection titers -with standard end-point PCR. The target is a multicopy motif (designated ARM: A-supergroup repeat motif) discovered in the genome of wMel (the Wolbachia in Drosophila melanogaster). ARM is found in at least seven other Wolbachia A-supergroup strains infecting various Drosophila, the wasp Muscidifurax and the tsetse fly Glossina. We demonstrate that end-point PCR targeting ARM can reliably detect both high-and low-titer Wolbachia infections in Drosophila, Glossina and interspecific hybrids. Conclusions: Simple end-point PCR of ARM facilitates detection of low-titer Wolbachia A-supergroup infections. Detecting these infections previously required more elaborate procedures. Our ARM target seems to be a general feature of Wolbachia A-supergroup genomes, unlike other multicopy markers such as insertion sequences (IS)
In a time of housing shortage, it is being built in our cities at a rate that we have not seen for a very long time. The city is densified and the outer city boundary is further extended closer to the countryside. In Örebro there are several natural areas located in the city's edge zone and affected by the city's expansion. This paper examines how the border between the city and the precious nature can be handled and formed in a new park that is part of an ongoing detailed plan for a new residential area in southeastern Örebro.
Adjacent to the new detail development plan lies the Markaskogen Nature Reserve which contains high natural values. In Markaskogen there is also a large open-air area that is well used by the people in Ă–rebro. In addition to the natural and social values found there are also a number of cultural values that also need to be taken into account in the creation of the park. The area containing the detailed development plan and its surroundings can be divided into three different landscape characteristics. Coniferous forest, deciduous forest and the open landscape. An inventory of the area shows that the land where the park is planned has great similarities with the land for the open landscape within the nature reserve.
In the current design, the new detail development plan will allow buildings in a scale that allows about 900 homes to be built. This means that the park must be able to function as a district park for the residents while serving as a natural transition or buffer to the precious nature found in the nature reserve directly west of the planned settlement.
By creating social areas combined with a nature character inspired by the nature reserve and the old farming landscape, creates a sense of belonging to both the city and nature. Not having a negative impact on the nature reserve's landscape image and experience value has also played a major role in how the transition was handled to work soft and natural.
The park is formed in order to strengthen the high values found in the nature reserve by creating new ones in the park. Through the open fields with small trees, free-standing trees, varied vegetation and wetlands, the possibility of high natural values is created, while providing ample space for social activities and less space for seclusion. The park also serves as an entrance to Markaskogen Nature Reserve and its hiking area, which has influenced the design of paths through the park that creates the possibility to quickly passing the park down to Markaskogen

Understanding the Behavior of Workshop Facilitators in Systems Analysis and Design Projects: Developing Theory from Process Modeling Projects
Organizational and technological systems analysis and design practices such as process modeling have received much attention in recent years. However, while knowledge about related artifacts such as models, tools, or grammars has substantially matured, little is known about the actual tasks and interaction activities that are conducted as part of analysis and design acts. In particular, key role of the facilitator has not been researched extensively to date. In this paper, we propose a new conceptual framework that can be used to examine facilitation behaviors in process modeling projects. The framework distinguishes four behavioral styles in facilitation (the driving engineer, the driving artist, the catalyzing engineer, and the catalyzing artist) that a facilitator can adopt. To distinguish between the four styles, we provide a set of ten behavioral anchors that underpin facilitation behaviors. We also report on a preliminary empirical exploration of our framework through interviews with experienced analysts in six modeling cases. Our research provides a conceptual foundation for an emerging theory for describing and explaining different behaviors associated with process modeling facilitation, provides first preliminary empirical results about facilitation in modeling projects, and provides a fertile basis for examining facilitation in other conceptual modeling activities
