Using authentic videos to foster listening and English pronunciation in the third year of Primary Education

Spanish legislation on education emphasizes the role of listening and pronunciation in the English classroom. That is why the present article aims to research whether students can improve both skills thanks to authentic videos. Therefore, an action plan was implemented with two classrooms in 3rd Primary: experimental and control group. Data was collected by means of a pre and post listening test, pre and post pronunciation exercises and a teacher diary. The treatment consisted of a series of six short videos necessary to solve the increasingly demanding post-viewing activities. Having suffered a setback, results reveal that the experimental group does not progress as much as the control one in terms of listening, but videos do have a positive effect on vowel articulation and pace.Grado en Educación Primari

Viral infections after stem cell transplantation

Infections remain one of the most serious problems in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. With the progress concerning transplant techniques and the supportive treatment we observe decrease in the incidence of infectious complications early after transplant with extended duration and risks later. Viral infections constitute the specific group of complications, strictly related to the immunological reconstitution after the transplantation. Most often appearing infections caused by viruses of Herpesviridae family together with currently binding recommendations concerning the diagnostics, the prevention and the treatment are discussed in the paper

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in treatment of patients with acute myeloid leukemia

Postęp w leczeniu ostrych białaczek szpikowych (AML), obserwowany w ostatnich latach, wiąże się z lepszym rozumieniem biologii choroby i coraz bardziej precyzyjną stratyfikacją rokowniczą chorych, pozwalającą na zastosowanie różnych form leczenia poremisyjnego zapobiegającego wznowie. Zastosowanie allogenicznego przeszczepienia krwiotwórczych komórek macierzystych (allo-HSCT) wpłynęło w sposób najbardziej widoczny na wyniki leczenia chorych z grup ryzyka, określonych na podstawie czynników cytogenetyczno-molekularnych. Poprawa skuteczności leczenia jest także efektem postępu w zakresie technik transplantacyjnych, leczenia wspomagającego, doboru par dawca–biorca i dostępności dawców. W pracy przedstawiono aktualne wskazania do allo-HSCT od zgodnych i niezgodnych dawców rodzinnych, dawców niespokrewnionych i z krwi pępowinowej w leczeniu chorych z AML. Omówiono metody przeprowadzania procedury przeszczepiania, uwzględniając sposoby leczenia przygotowującego i źródło pozyskiwania komórek krwiotwórczych. Przedstawiono także nowoczesne metody zapobiegania i leczenia nawrotów choroby. Hematologia 2011; 2, 3: 266–275Progress in understanding the biology of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has contributed to better risk stratification of AML patients and application of various post remission therapies to prevent relapse of the disease in recent years. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) significantly influenced the outcome of high risk patients, defined on cytogenetic- molecular level. Additionally, advances in transplant techniques, better selection and availability of donors and better supportive care have improved safety and access of transplantation. In this review current indication for allo-HSCT from family and unrelated donors, as well as cord blood transplants, are discussed. Different conditioning methods, stem cells source and their impact on allo-HSCT outcome are also presented, as well as modern methods for prevention and treatment of relapse. Cling peaches under hailnets : effects on maturity and quality

Para evaluar la influencia de la tela antigranizo sobre la calidad de duraznos para industria cv. Dr. Davis en dos fechas de cosecha se determinó la madurez y calidad de frutos de plantas testigo y bajo tela antigranizo. Los parámetros medidos fueron peso, intensidad de color de piel y de pulpa, firmeza de pulpa, contenido de sólidos solubles (CSS), acidez titulable (AT) y relación CSS/AT. La tela antigranizo no afectó el peso de los frutos. En cambio retrasó su maduración y disminuyó su calidad. El color de piel y pulpa, el CSS y la relación CSS/AT fueron menores en las plantas bajo tela antigranizo pero, en sus frutos, la firmeza de pulpa fue mayor.This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of hailnets on the quality of cv. Dr. Davis peaches at harvest. Fruits from trees of both with and without hailnets orchards were collected at two harvest dates. Fruit maturity and quality evaluations were weight, skin and flesh color, flesh firmness, solid soluble content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA) and SSC/AT ratio. Fruit weight was similar for both treatments. Peaches tree under hailnets : effect on yield and color

Para evaluar la influencia de la tela antigranizo sobre los rendimientos y la coloración de piel de los frutos de duraznero Prunus persicae L. Batsch variedad Dr. Davis se utilizaron plantas testigo y bajo tela antigranizo seleccionadas por uniformidad de copa y de carga frutal. La cosecha se realizó en dos pasadas. En cada recolección se determinó peso individual y color de piel de los frutos. Se calcularon los rendimientos totales y por pasadas y los rendimientos por categoría de color de piel. La tela antigranizo no afectó los rendimientos totales. En cambio retrasó el desarrollo de color de fondo y, por lo tanto, redujo el rendimiento de la primera pasada de cosecha. Además aumentó la proporción de frutos con madurez mínima en la segunda recolección.This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of neeting for hail protection on yields and fruit skin color of yellow cling peaches Prunus persicae L. Batsch cultivar Dr. Davis, at harvest. Trees with similar croap load were selected in both with and without netting orchards. All fruits were collected at two harvest dates. Fruit weight, skin and flesh color were determined. Total and partial yields, and yields ranked by skin color were calculated. Although total yields were not modified by netting for hail protection, the development of background color was delayed, therefore yield at the first harvest date was lower. Caracterización subjetiva de paisajes sonoros de Valladolid

El objetivo del estudio es realizar una categorización del paisaje sonoro de la ciudad de Valladolid en base a parámetros psicoacústicos y analizar la posible correlación entre esta categorización y la que resulta utilizando los parámetros acústicos, viarios, de tráfico y arquitectónicos. Para llevarlo a cabo, se ha realizado una primera categorización atendiendo a parámetros viarios, en base a ella se han seleccionado los puntos de grabación y se han realizado las grabaciones a partir de las cuales se han obtenido los parámetros psicoacústicos. Además, se han realizado las categorizaciones en base a parámetros acústicos, de tráfico y arquitectónicos para poder analizar las posibles correlaciones entre estos parámetros y los parámetros psicoacústicos. El resultado es una clasificación de la ciudad de Valladolid atendiendo a parámetros psicoacústicos y las relaciones existentes entre los diferentes parámetros utilizados empleando para ello la agrupación en clústers. Soluciones "tecnológicas" a problemas clásicos: la evolución jurisprudencial de la ajenidad y la dependencia

La evolución del contexto productivo y económico ha hecho surgir, en diferentes momentos, el debate trabajo asalariado-trabajo autónomo, gozando de un papel relevante la dependencia como nota diferenciadora.
