ptp++: A Precision Time Protocol Simulation Model for OMNeT++ / INET
Precise time synchronization is expected to play a key role in emerging
distributed and real-time applications such as the smart grid and Internet of
Things (IoT) based applications. The Precision Time Protocol (PTP) is currently
viewed as one of the main synchronization solutions over a packet-switched
network, which supports microsecond synchronization accuracy. In this paper, we
present a PTP simulation model for OMNeT++ INET, which allows to investigate
the synchronization accuracy under different network configurations and
conditions. To show some illustrative simulation results using the developed
module, we investigate on the network load fluctuations and their impacts on
the PTP performance by considering a network with class-based
quality-of-service (QoS) support. The simulation results show that the network
load significantly affects the network delay symmetry, and investigate a new
technique called class probing to improve the PTP accuracy and mitigate the
load fluctuation effects.Comment: Published in: A. F\"orster, C. Minkenberg, G. R. Herrera, M. Kirsche

Political Theology Versus Public Theology: Reclaiming the Heart of Christian Mission
Christian theology has always viewed itself in relation to two communities: the church and the wider public. Political theology attempts to expose incoherencies by highlighting theological themes in âsecularâ society. Public theology, meanwhile, accepts that wider political communities have their own autonomy. The work of Public Theology is to bring together insights from the gospel with initiatives from wider political movements in Government, Economic Structures and Civil Society for the benefit of all citizens.
In this thesis, I explore the historical development of Political Theology with the aid of Kirwan and Phillips. I examine the evolution of Public Theology from Political Theology through Tracy and Smit. I then propose that Public Theology offers more public participation in secular society than Political Theology supported by Cavanaugh. Finally, I assert that Public Theology is made possible through the sacrament of baptism
The history of the eel fishery has been an activity emblematic of the evolving culture of the Kamouraska region and a source of identity for the regionâs fishing population. The snake-like appearance of the eel and its mysterious life underwater made it a fish subject to multiple interpretations in the belief systems of several peoples. From its rise to its decline, the historical geography of the eel fishery is a medium for exploring the larger relationship of the peoples of Kamouraska with their environment. An integral part of the transhumance of First Nations peoples, it was equally an essential part of the fishing and agricultural subsistence activities of the French colonists of the region and became an economically important market activity in the 19th and 20th centuries.. The decline of the eel fishery in the 1970âs provides testimony to the long-term effects of environmental degradation of the St. Lawrence River.

An asynchronous and task-based implementation of Peridynamics utilizing HPX -- the C++ standard library for parallelism and concurrency
On modern supercomputers, asynchronous many task systems are emerging to
address the new architecture of computational nodes. Through this shift of
increasing cores per node, a new programming model with the focus on handle the
fine-grain parallelism of this increasing amount of cores per computational
node is needed. Asynchronous Many Task (AMT) run time systems represent an
emerging paradigm for addressing fine-grain parallelism since they handle the
increasing amount of threads per node and concurrency. HPX, a open source C++
standard library for parallelism and concurrency, is one AMT which is confirm
with the C++ standard. Which means that HPX's Application Programming Interface
(API) is confirm with its definition by the C++ standard committee. For example
for the concept of futurization the hpx:future can be replaced by std::future
without breaking the API. Peridynamics is a non-local generalization of
continuum mechanics tailored to address discontinuous displacement fields
arising in fracture mechanics. As many non-local approaches, peridynamics
requires considerable computing resources to solve practical problems. This
paper investigates the implementation of a peridynamics EMU nodal
discretization in an asynchronous task-based fashion. The scalability of
asynchronous task-based implementation is to be in agreement with theoretical
estimations. In addition, to the scalabilty the code is convergent for implicit
time integration and recovers theoretical solutions. Explicit time integration,
convergence results are presented to showcase the agreement of results with
theoretical claims in previous works
Parentsâ reading-related knowledge and childrenâs reading acquisition
Teacher reading-related knowledge (phonological awareness and phonics knowledge) predicts student reading, however little is known about the reading-related knowledge of parents. Participants comprised 70 dyads (children from kindergarten and grade 1 and their parents). Parents were administered a questionnaire tapping into reading-related knowledge, print exposure, storybook reading, and general cultural knowledge. Children were tested on measures of letterâword knowledge, sound awareness, receptive vocabulary, oral expression, and mathematical skill. Parent reading-related knowledge showed significant positive links with child letterâword knowledge and sound awareness, but showed no correlations with child measures of mathematical skill or vocabulary. Furthermore, parent reading-related knowledge was not associated with parentsâ own print exposure or cultural knowledge, indicating that knowledge about English word structure may be separate from other cognitive skills. Implications are discussed in terms of improving parent reading-related knowledge to promote child literacy
The CEA Second-Look Trial: a randomised controlled trial of carcinoembryonic antigen prompted reoperation for recurrent colorectal cancer
Objective In patients who have undergone a potentially curative resection of colorectal cancer, does a âsecond-lookâ operation to resect recurrence, prompted by monthly monitoring of carcinoembryonic antigen, confer a survival benefit?Design A randomised controlled trial recruiting patients from 1982 to 1993 was recovered under the Restoring Invisible and Abandoned Trials (RIAT) initiative.Setting 58 hospitals in the UK.Participants From 1982 to 1993, 1447 patients were enrolled. Of these 216 met the criteria for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) elevation and were randomised to âAggressiveâ or âConventionalâ arms.Interventions âSecond-lookâ surgery with intention to remove any recurrence discovered.Primary outcome measure Survival. Results By February 1993, 91/108 patients had died in the âAggressive armâ and 88/108 in the âConventionalâ arm (relative risk=1.16, 95% CI 0.87 to 1.37). By 2011 a further 25 randomised patients had died. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed no difference in long-term survival. Conclusions The trial was closed in 1993 following a recommendation from the Data Monitoring Committee that it was highly unlikely that any survival advantage would be demonstrated for CEA prompted second-look surgery. This conclusion was confirmed by repeat analysis of survival times after 20â
years.Trial registration number ISRCTN76694943
