The range of environmental problems confronting agriculture has expanded in recent years. As the largest program designed to mitigate the negative environmental effects of agriculture, the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) has broadened its initial focus on reductions in soil erosion to consider other landscape factors that may also be beneficial. For example, preserving habitats can help protect wildlife, thus leading to more nature-viewing opportunities. The symbolic understanding of milk in Swiss gastronomy

In the 21st century, in a context where milk and dairy products are at the centre of many debates, this article wonders how doubts about these products are perceived in a gastronomic context where they are particularly appreciated and used. This article focuses on a Swiss context, since milk and dairy products are an integral part of Swiss culture. The article explores the history of milk in the Western world and highlights the fact that milk has had an ambiguous position throughout the centuries. Some studies make it possible to question the consumption of such products, while in Switzerland there is no doubt that they are products strongly rooted in the country’s heritage. Eighteen interviews with gastronomic chefs were conducted to develop answers to the questions raised by the potential questioning of milk and dairy products in Swiss gastronomy. The results show that the reflections about dairy do not impact the gastronomic field, and that chefs are inclined to keep these products, as long as moderate use is made of them. In a Swiss context, the results show that milk and dairy products are untouchable and that it is important to defend the cultural heritage of the country

A Unified Picture of the FIP and Inverse FIP Effects

We discuss models for coronal abundance anomalies observed in the coronae of the sun and other late-type stars following a scenario first introduced by Schwadron, Fisk & Zurbuchen of the interaction of waves at loop footpoints with the partially neutral gas. Instead of considering wave heating of ions in this location, we explore the effects on the upper chromospheric plasma of the wave ponderomotive forces. These can arise as upward propagating waves from the chromosphere transmit or reflect upon reaching the chromosphere-corona boundary, and are in large part determined by the properties of the coronal loop above. Our scenario has the advantage that for realistic wave energy densities, both positive and negative changes in the abundance of ionized species compared to neutrals can result, allowing both FIP and Inverse FIP effects to come out of the model. We discuss how variations in model parameters can account for essentially all of the abundance anomalies observed in solar spectra. Avaliação da aprendizagem na exposição de astronomia do Museu de Ciências Naturais Puc Minas

Investigações realizadas na Exposição de Astronomia do Museu PUC Minas sugeriram a necessidade de elaboração de roteiros e estratégias específicas para a mediação. Os novos roteiros deveriam apresentar atividades práticas e os conteúdos deveriam amparar-se no conhecimento prévio dos alunos, de forma a estabelecer pontes com novos conhecimentos apresentados. Nesta comunicação serão apresentados os resultados da avaliação da aprendizagem de alunos do Ensino Fundamental que participaram de um dos novos roteiros criados em conjunto pelos educadores das escolas e do Museu. A técnica utilizada para coleta de dados foi PMM (Personal Meaning Mapping). Os resultados apontam que os alunos agregaram palavras e conteúdos, ampliaram seu vocabulário, vivenciaram situações inéditas em suas vidas, desmistificaram concepções e formularam conceitos científicos

Identification of an embryonic isoform of myelin basic protein that is expressed widely in the mouse embryo

We have identified a myelin basic protein (MBP) isoform in mouse embryos that includes an exon upstream of the usual transcription initiation site. This isoform, embryonic-neonatal MBP (E-MBP), is expressed at the protein level in the embryonic nervous system at a time when other MBP isoforms are not detected. In addition to the central and peripheral nervous systems of the embryo and neonate, the thymus, spleen, and testes also express E-MBP at the protein level.
