    Hostility and Jewish group identification

Thesis (Ph.D)--Boston University. This study is concerned with an investigation of hostile expression and Jewish group identification. The design of the study included the development and factor-analysis of a scale of Jewish identification. Specifically, the study dealt with four main issues: the relationship between Jewish group identification and the expression of hostility, a comparison of hostile expression in Jews and non-Jews, an investigation of the multi-dimensionality of Jewish group identification, and a study of the relationship between the derived factors of Jewish identification and the expression of hostility. Map4rdf - Faceted Browser for Geospatial Datasets

    Get PDF
Recently we have seen a large increase in the amount of geospatial data that is being published using RDF and Linked Data principles. Eorts such as the W3C Geo XG, and most recently the GeoSPARQL initiative are providing the necessary vocabularies to pub- lish this kind of information on the Web of Data. In this context it is necessary to develop applications that consume and take advantage of these geospatial datasets. In this paper we present map4rdf, a faceted browsing tool for exploring and visualizing RDF datasets enhanced with geospatial information

Dungeons and Dreams: The Children and Nightmares of Emily and Anne Bronte\u27s Gondal Poetry

    Get PDF
It has long been acknowledged that Anne Bronte played a part in the saga of the imaginary world of Gondal, but more attention has been given to her sister Emily\u27s role in creating the world. Each sister\u27s Gondal poetry, however, is important: the poetry signals much about how each sister dealt with the world around her, demonstrates how adulty rather than childish Gondal became, and indicates how realistic each sister\u27s escapist world actually was. Indeed, in grappling with their changing nineteenth centruy world, Anne clung to the hopeful remains of Romanticism while Emily blended and denied both Romanticism and Victorianism. Significantly, too, if Gondal was at all escapist, it was more successfully so for Anne, who, unlike her sister, could dream without nightmare. Overall, this study endeavors to discover that dialogue which surfaced through the sisters\u27 reactions to their world, most notably through the very different views -- Emily\u27s pessimistic and Anne\u27s optimistic --such reactions encouraged on the same themes of children and dreams. It looks to unearth the very real hope and despair which surrounded the very unreal Gondal and its children and dreams

Adaptive fuzzy knowledge-based systems for control metabots' mobility on virtual environments

    Get PDF
The confluence of three-dimensional (3D) virtual worlds with social networks imposes on software agents, in addition to conversational functions, the same behaviours as those common to human-driven avatars. In this paper, we explore the possibilities of the use of metabots (metaverse robots) with motion capabilities in complex virtual 3D worlds and we put forward a learning model based on the techniques used in evolutionary computation for optimizing the fuzzy controllers which will subsequently be used by metabots for moving around a virtual environment

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

A Reference Meta-model to Understand DNA Variant Interpretation Guidelines

    Get PDF
Determining the role of a DNA variant in patients’ health status – a process known as variant interpretation – is highly critical for precision medicine applications. Variant interpretation involves a complex process where, regrettably, there is still debate on how to combine and weigh diverse available evidence to achieve proper and consistent answers. Indeed, at the time of writing, 22 different variant interpretation guidelines are available to the scientific community, each of them attempting to establish a framework for standardizing the interpretation process. However, these guidelines are qualitative and vague by nature, which hinders their streamlined application and potential automation. Consequently, more precise definitions are needed. Conceptual modeling provides the means to bring clarification within this domain. This paper presents our efforts to define and use a UML meta-model that describes the main concepts involved in the definition of variant interpretation guidelines and the constructs they evaluate. The precise conceptual definition of the guidelines allowed us to identify four common misinterpretation patterns that hamper the correct interpretation process and that can consequently affect classification results. In several proposed examples, the use of the meta-model provides support in identifying the inconsistencies in the observed process; this result paves the way for further proposing reconciliation strategies for the existing guidelines
