Development of an expert system based on fuzzy logic as support for heat pipes design

    Get PDF
Heat pipe design and selection require specialist knowledge due to numerous possible combinations and restrictions that should be considered. The general objective of this work is to design a Specialist System that assists future engineers in material and working fluid selection for a suitable heat pipe application, based on the technical operating requirements. The methodology consisted of a qualitative perspective through interviews with two specialist engineers in the heat pipes area. The resulting information from the interviews was organized into a library, working as a source for the specialist system. In addition, several books from the literature completed the information in the library. Based on the operating conditions and the provided library, the program recommends suitable materials and working fluids and the necessity of porous media for the application, like a consult with a heat pipe specialist. The new expert system can be a tool for researchers and engineers in heat pipe design as passive control systems, providing more suitable solutions for each application

This article presents the development of the identification with the black box method and the PID control of the lifting process (in the Y axis) of a Quadrotor model GAUI 330X. The study consists of the development of an angular speed control loop of the motor in charge of lifting. The sensor used for its measurement is a CNZ1120 (as an encoder) with its respective frequency / voltage converter. Non-parametric Eyeball (Smith) and parametric methods are applied for model identification and PID closed-loop control. The study carried out guarantees the desired speed in steady state, such as a short settling time

Analysis of the thermal sensation in single-family home from microclimatic monitoring: Case study Bucaramanga Colombia

    Get PDF
The present work describes the experimentation of monitoring for the finding of the heat index and the individual thermal sensation, where the behavior of the real temperature in the exterior and interior of a conventional single-family house with a warm and temperate climate in Colombia was analyzed. The detailed monitoring campaign is carried out for 2880 hours, where the conditions of the interior area of the house and the local climatic conditions of the area are recorded, through the implementation of a thermohydrometers registration system. The methodology for the calculation of the sensation of heat and thermal comfort was determined under the adjusted equation of cooling power of Leonardo Hill and Morikofer-Davos, applied in the analyses of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies - IDEAM. The results showed a thermal sensation of dissatisfaction of 97.7%, because with the monitored temperature the thermal sensation is calculated yielding in 1382.4 hours with very hot, 1151.6 hours of hot and 280.8 hours of warm thermal sensation

Identification of energetically critical processes for cocoa production in Santander, Colombia

    Get PDF
The intensification of industrial activities in post-harvest cocoa processes has generated a disproportionate increase in energy consumption. The objective of this work is to describe those energetically critical ones that are used in the cocoa production line in Santander so that further research can evaluate the implementation of alternative or renewable energy systems. Through the collection of information and data management, it is seeking to promote the efficient use of energy based on the NTC ISO 500001. For this end, a description of the processes involved in the production of cocoa was made considering the technical data. Then, the energy consumed by the equipment used in the different processes was determined for 30 days, operating 24 hours a day, assuming power factors of 0.75 and 0.9. Finally, through analysis, calculations, and the application of the Pareto methodology, it was possible to identify that the process with the highest energy consumption is the cocoa refining step, since the equipment used in this process consumes more than 30% of energy from the total energy used for cocoa production

Assessing the thermal performance of a conventional architecture in a dry warm climate

    Get PDF
In this article, we present the results of the evaluation of the thermal performance of a conventional home in a dry warm climate, a case study in Bucaramanga, Colombia. This simulation, evaluation, and analysis make it necessary since currently in the case study area there is no thermal assessment of the dwellings, which are old houses built with resistive and mechanical analyses, but without regard to thermal behavior or thermal housing comfort. This evaluation is done by means of software simulation. Thus, a valid simulation identifies the weather data present in a dry warm climate zone and determines the geographical location and behavior in the solar diagram. Likewise, the thermal characterization of the soil and the construction materials of support and envelopes of the architecture is performed, to establish its thermal transmittance, thermal resistance, and thermal capacity. As a result of the research, the thermal behavior of the house is presented by means of the calculations made that determine the thermal behavior of the envelopes, energy load balancing, and housing thermal comfort based on the ASHRAE 55 standard by Fanger's method. Consequently, with the above, the results of the simulation and a detailed analysis of the recorded data are presented in the document
