Management of Digital Transformation: A Literature Review of Dynamic and Operational Capabilities

    Get PDF
Within the last years, many digital-born companies entered and outperformed their market. In literature, this phenomenon is often discussed under the term of digital transformation and digitalization. Researchers agree that capabilities play a decisive role in this context. Nevertheless, most literature focus on a specific field of corporate capabilities. Our literature review aims to systematize the current state of knowledge and identify fruitful avenues for future research on dynamic and operational capabilities for successful digital transformation in an enterprise environment. As a result, a model of their interplay is presented, discussing the most relevant capabilities and illustrating them with examples from the literature

Comparison of conventional and shifted excitation Raman difference spectroscopy for bacterial identification

    Get PDF
Raman spectroscopy is an emerging tool for fast bacterial identification. However, Raman spectroscopy is depending on suitable preprocessing of the spectra, thereby background removal is a decisive step for conventional Raman spectroscopy. The background has to be estimated, which is challenging especially for high fluorescence backgrounds. Shifted excitation Raman difference spectroscopy (SERDS) eliminates the background through the experimental procedure and holds as promising approach for highly fluorescent samples. Bacterial Raman spectra might be especially complex because these spectra consist of a multitude of overlapping Raman bands from a large multiplicity of biomolecules and only subtitle differences between the species Raman spectra enable the bacterial identification. Here, we investigate the benefits of SERDS compared with conventional Raman spectroscopy specific for the study and identification of bacteria. The comparison utilizes spectra sets of four bacterial species measured with conventional Raman spectroscopy and SERDS and covers three processing approaches for SERDS spectra, for example, the reconstruction with a non‐negative least square algorithm

Printing sub-micron structures using Talbot mask-aligner lithography with a 193 nm CW laser light source

A continuous improvement of resolution in mask-aligner lithography is sought after to meet the requirements of an ever decreasing minimum feature size in back-end processes. For periodic structures, utilizing the Talbot effect for lithography has emerged as a viable path. Here, by combining the Talbot effect with a continuous wave laser source emitting at 193 nm, we demonstrate successfully the fabrication of periodic arrays in silicon substrates with sub-micron feature sizes. The excellent coherence and the superior brilliance of this light source, compared to more traditional mercury lamps and excimer lasers as light source, enables the efficient beam shaping and a reduced minimum feature size at a fixed gap of 20 μm. We present a comprehensive study of proximity printing with this system, including simulations and selected experimental results of prints in up to the fourth Talbot plane. This printing technology can be used to manufacture optical metasurfaces, bio-sensor arrays, membranes, or microchannel plates

CITATION: Leisching, G. et al. 2020. 2'-5'-Oligoadenylate synthetase-like protein inhibits intracellular M. tuberculosis replication and promotes proinflammatory cytokine secretion. Molecular Immunology, 118:73–78, doi:0.1016/j.molimm.2019.12.004.The original publication is available at https://www.sciencedirect.comHost cytoplasmic surveillance pathways are known to elicit type I interferon (IFN) responses which are crucial to antimicrobial defense mechanisms. Oligoadenylate synthetase-like (OASL) protein has been extensively characterized as a part of the anti-viral mechanism, however a number of transcriptomic studies reveal its upregulation in response to infection with a wide variety of intracellular bacterial pathogens. To date, there is no evidence documenting the role (if any) of OASL during mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Using two pathogenic strains differing in virulence only, as well as the non-pathogenic M. bovis BCG strain, we observed that pathogenicity and virulence strongly induced OASL expression after 24 h of infection. Further, we observed that OASL knock down led to a significant increase in M. tb CFU counts 96 h post-infection in comparison to the respective controls. Luminex revealed that OASL silencing significantly decreased IL-1β, TNF-α and MCP-1 secretion in THP-1 cells and had no effect on IL-10 secretion. We therefore postulate that OASL regulates pro-inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and chemokines which suppress intracellular mycobacterial growth and survival.South African Medical Research CouncilNational Research Foundation of South AfricaPublisher's versio

Dynamical phenomena in Fibonacci Semiconductor Superlattices

    Get PDF
We present a detailed study of the dynamics of electronic wavepackets in Fibonacci semiconductor superlattices, both in flat band conditions and subject to homogeneous electric fields perpendicular to the layers. Coherent propagation of electrons is described by means of a scalar Hamiltonian using the effective-mass approximation. We have found that an initial Gaussian wavepacket is filtered selectively when passing through the superlattice. This means that only those components of the wavepacket whose wavenumber belong to allowed subminibands of the fractal-like energy spectrum can propagate over the entire superlattice. The Fourier pattern of the transmitted part of the wavepacket presents clear evidences of fractality reproducing those of the underlying energy spectrum. This phenomenon persists even in the presence of unintentional disorder due to growth imperfections. Finally, we have demonstrated that periodic coherent-field induced oscillations (Bloch oscillations), which we are able to observe in our simulations of periodic superlattices, are replaced in Fibonacci superlattices by more complex oscillations displaying quasiperiodic signatures, thus sheding more light onto the very peculiar nature of the electronic states in these systems.Comment: 7 pagex, RevTex, 5 Postscript figures.
