The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of growing season and nitrogen doses on the pickling cucumber. This work was carried out in a greenhouse at the Federal Institute of Goiás (IF Goiano) - Campus Urutaí. A randomized block design in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme with four replications was used. Two growing seasons (the first sown in January and second in April) and five nitrogen doses (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 kg ha-1 of N) were evaluated. The seed of pickling cucumber used was the Kybria F1 hybrid. Nitrogen doses were applied at 15, 30, and 45 days after plant emergence. Each plot was composed of 10 plants, and the four central plants of each plot with a spacing of 0.2 m between plants and 0.8 m between rows were evaluated. Leaf nitrogen content, relative chlorophyll index, stem diameter, length and diameter of fruits, fresh and dry matter of fruits, the fresh matter of shoot, number of fruits, and yield per plant were evaluated. The growing seasons and nitrogen doses influenced the productive traits of the cucumber crop. The first growing season of the cucumber crop shows satisfactory results in terms of yield components at a dose of 100 kg ha-1 of nitrogen. The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of growing season and nitrogen doses on the pickling cucumber. The slow growth of the pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) during the vegetative phase prolongs the crop cycle, resulting in higher production costs. When used in low doses, some herbicides can stimulate plant growth, a phenomenon known as hormesis. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of sub-doses of glyphosate and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) on growth in the Pérola cultivar of the pineapple. The treatments under study consisted of glyphosate applications of 0, 1.8, 3.6, 7.2, 18, 36, 72, 180, 360 and 720 g a.e. ha-1, and 2,4-D applications of 0, 1.68, 3.35, 6.70, 16.75, 33.5, 67, 167.5, 335 and 670 g a.e. ha-1. The experiments were completely randomised with four replications. The plants were grown in the greenhouse in pots with a capacity of 8 dm3 substrate. Growth variables were evaluated in the plants, together with the total and partitioned accumulated biomass (leaf, stem and root). The data were submitted to analysis of variance and regression. The pineapple showed greater phytotoxicity from the glyphosate herbicide at applications ranging from 18 to 720 g a.e. ha-1 and from 2,4-D in the range of 167.5 to 670 g a.e. ha-1. The hormesis effect was evidenced by the 32.25% increase in root fresh weight at the dose of 1.8 g a.e. ha-1 glyphosate. However, the slow growth of the pineapple was not overcome by the hormesis effect of the herbicides.

Plant growth promoting bacteria associated with langsdorffia hypogaea-rhizosphere-host biological interface : a neglected model of bacterial prospection.

Soil is a habitat where plant roots and microorganisms interact. In the region of the Brazilian Iron Quadrangle (IQ), studies involving the interaction between microbiota and plants have been neglected. Even more neglected are the studies involving the holoparasite plant Langsdorffia hypogaea Mart. (Balanophoraceae). The geomorphological peculiarities of IQ soil, rich in iron ore, as well as the model of interaction between L. hypogaea, its hosts and the soil provide a unique niche that acts as selective pressure to the evolution of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB). The aim of this study was to prospect the bacterial microbiota of holoparasitic plant L. hypogaea, its plant host and corresponding rhizosphere of IQ soil, and to analyze the potential of these isolates as PGPB. We obtained samples of 11 individuals of L. hypogaea containing fragments of host and rhizosphere remnants, resulting in 81 isolates associated with Firmicutes and Proteobacteria phyla. The ability to produce siderophores, hydrocyanic acid (HCN), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), nitrogen (N2) fixation, hydrolytic enzymes secretion and inhibition of enteropathogens, and phytopathogens were evaluated. Of the total isolates, 62, 86, and 93% produced, respectively, siderophores, IAA, and were able to fix N2. In addition, 27 and 20% of isolates inhibited the growth of enteropathogens and phytopathogens, respectively, and 58% were able to produce at least one hydrolytic activity investigated. The high number of isolates that produce siderophores and indole-3-acetic acid suggests that this microbiota may be important for adaptation of plants to IQ. The results demonstrate for the first time the biological importance of Brazilian IQ species as reservoirs of specific microbiotas that might be used as PGPB on agricultural land or antropized soils that needs to be reforested
