Estudios preliminares sobre el control del gusano rosado Pectinophora gossypiella con Bracon kirkpatricki en Colombia.

Durante los años de 1988 y 1989 en el CNI en Palmira, se realizaron estudios sobre la adaptación, dispersión y eficiencia del parasitoide Bracon kirkpatricki en el cultivo del algodonero. La eficiencia del parasitoide fue evaluada sobre larvas del gusano rosado de la india Pectinophora gossypiella, para ello periódicamente se hicieron liberaciones de adultos de B. kirkpatricki en el campo y dentro de jaulas de anjeo, colectando posteriormente lavas de la plaga, sobre las cuales fueron determinados en laboratorio los porcentajes de parasitismo. Se encontró un 16.4 por ciento de larvas parasitadas sobre un total de 140 larvas evaluadas dentro de las jaulas. El parasitismo en campo abierto para el año 1988 fue de 11.9 por ciento y en 1989 fue de 8.6 por ciento, reportándose porcentajes parciales máximos del 21.9 y 26.3 por ciento para los 2 años, respectivamente. Las evaluaciones mostraron que el parasitoide se adapta al medio ambiente, al encontrarse adultos en campo abierto hasta 43 días después de la última liberación. Se comprobó del parasitoide hacia algodonales situados aproximadamente a 1 km del sitio de liberación. Al comparar lotes con y sin liberaciones del parasitoide, se observó que el insecto benéfico contribuyó a demorar el establecimiento de la plaga en el cultivo por 30 días, el mayor nivel de daño de la plaga (16.7 por ciento) se registró en el lote sin liberaciones de B. kirkpatricki a los 169 días de edad del cultivoCacao-Theobroma caca

Estudios en suelos del Valle del Cauca con relación Ca:Mg invertida: 1. Características generales de los suelos.

Se determinaron las propiedades físicas, químicas y mineralógicas de 5 pérfiles de suelos vallecaucanos afectados por la inversión de la relación Ca:Mg. Se escogieron 5 series de suelos designados como Murillo, Normandia, Guayabito, ICA 10 y Tumaco 2. En cada sitio se describió el perfil del suelo y se tomaron muestras de cada horizonte. Se efectuaron las siguientes determinaciones: color, humedad higroscópica, porcentaje de saturación de bases, textura, pH, P, bases intercambiables, materia orgánica y capacidad de intercambio cationico. Se determinó la composición mineralógica de las arcillas. Los suelos analizados presentaron un pH comprendido entre 6.4 y 7.8, contenido medio de materia orgánica, capacidad de intercambio catiónico y saturación de bases alta (especialmente de Ca y Mg). Las arcillas predominantes son montmorillonita, vermiculita e illita. Aparentemente el pH y el Na intercambiable de estos suelos no parecen ser factores limitantes de la producción en las zonas desarrolladas, sin embargo, debido a la fineza en la textura de estos suelos, el drenaje externo es lento, extrayendo como consecuencia una aireación insuficiente para el desarrollo radicular. Impact of sensor-augmented pump therapy with predictive low-glucose management on hypoglycemia and glycemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus : 1-year follow-up

Q2Artículo original2625-2631AIMS: To describe real-life experience with sensor-augmented pump therapy with predictive low-glucose management (SAPT-PLGM), in terms of hypoglycemia and glycemic control after one year of follow-up in T1D patients with hypoglycemia as the main indication of therapy. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study under real life conditions. Baseline and one-year follow-up variables of glycemic control, hypoglycemia and glycemic variability were compared. RESULTS: Fifty patients were included, 31 on prior treatment with SAPT with low-glucose suspend (LGS) feature and 19 on multiple dose insulin injections (MDI). Mean HbA1c decreased in the MDI group (8.24%-7.08%; p = 0.0001). HbA1c change was not significant in the SAPT-LGS group. Area under the curve (AUC) below 70 mg/dl improved in both SAPT-LGS and MDI groups while AUC, %time and events below 54 mg/dl decreased in SAPT-LGS group. Glycemic variability improved in the MDI group. Less patients presented severe hypoglycemia with SAPT-PLGM in both groups, however the change was non-significant. CONCLUSIONS: Under real life conditions, SAPT-PLGM reduced metrics of hypoglycemia in patients previously treaded with MDI and SAPT-LGS without deteriorating glycemic control in SAPT-LGS patients, while improving it in patients treated with MDI

Meltable, Glass-Forming, Iron Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks

We describe the first meltable iron-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF), denoted MUV-24. This material, elusive from direct synthesis, is obtained from the thermal treatment of [Fe3(im)6(Him)2], which yields Fe(im)2 upon loss of the neutral imidazole molecules. Different crystalline phase transformations are observed upon further heating, until the material melts at 482 °C. Vitrification upon cooling of the liquid phase gives rise to the first Fe-metal-organic framework glass. X-ray total scattering experiments show that the tetrahedral environment of the crystalline solids is maintained in the glass, whereas nanoindentation measurements reveal an increase in Young's modulus, in agreement with stiffening upon vitrification

Benchmarking a wide spectrum of metaheuristic techniques for the radio network design problem

The radio network design (RND) is an NP-hard optimization problem which consists of the maximization of the coverage of a given area while minimizing the base station deployment. Solving RND problems efficiently is relevant to many fields of application and has a direct impact in the engineering, telecommunication, scientific, and industrial areas. Numerous works can be found in the literature dealing with the RND problem, although they all suffer from the same shortfall: a noncomparable efficiency. Therefore, the aim of this paper is twofold: first, to offer a reliable RND comparison base reference in order to cover a wide algorithmic spectrum, and, second, to offer a comprehensible insight into accurate comparisons of efficiency, reliability, and swiftness of the different techniques applied to solve the RND problem. In order to achieve the first aim we propose a canonical RND problem formulation driven by two main directives: technology independence and a normalized comparison criterion. Following this, we have included an exhaustive behavior comparison between 14 different techniques. Finally, this paper indicates algorithmic trends and different patterns that can be observed through this analysis.Publicad

Design, Synthesis, Characterization, and Evaluation of the Anti-HT-29 Colorectal Cell Line Activity of Novel 8-Oxyquinolinate-Platinum(II)-Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers Targeted with Riboflavin

Colorectal cancer is occasionally called colon or rectal cancer, depending on where cancer begins to form, and is the second leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. The platinum-based [PtCl(8-O-quinolinate)(dmso)] (8-QO-Pt) compound has demonstrated encouraging anticancer activity. Three different systems of 8-QO-Pt-encapsulated nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) with riboflavin (RFV) were investigated. NLCs of myristyl myristate were synthesized by ultrasonication in the presence of RFV. RFV-decorated nanoparticles displayed a spherical shape and a narrow size dispersion in the range of 144–175 nm mean particle diameter. The 8-QO-Pt-loaded formulations of NLC/RFV with more than 70% encapsulation efficiency showed sustained in vitro release for 24 h. Cytotoxicity, cell uptake, and apoptosis were evaluated in the HT-29 human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line. The results revealed that 8-QO-Pt-loaded formulations of NLC/RFV showed higher cytotoxicity than the free 8-QO-Pt compound at 5.0 µM. All three systems exhibited different levels of cellular internalization. Moreover, the hemotoxicity assay showed the safety profile of the formulations (less than 3.7%). Taken together, RFV-targeted NLC systems for drug delivery have been investigated for the first time in our study and the results are promising for the future of chemotherapy in colon cancer treatmen

One-loop Holography with Strings in AdS₄ × CP³

We compute the one-loop effective action of string configurations embedded in AdS₄ × CP³ which are dual to ⅙-BPS latitude Wilson Loops in the ABJM theory. To avoid ambiguities in the string path integral we subtract the ½-BPS case. The one-loop determinants are computed by Fourier-decomposing the two dimensional operators and then using the Gel'fand-Yaglom method. We comment on various aspects related to the regularization procedure, showing the cancellation of a hierarchy of divergences. After taking into account an IR anomaly from a change in topology, we find a precise agreement with the field theory result known from supersymmetric localization.Facultad de Ciencias ExactasInstituto de Física La Plat
