Evaluation of research activities of universities of Ukraine and Belarus: a set of bibliometric indicators and its implementation

Monitoring bibliometric indicators of University rankings is considered as a subject of a University library activity. In order to fulfill comparative assessment of research activities of the universities of Ukraine and Belarus the authors introduced a set of bibliometric indicators. A comparative assessment of the research activities of corresponding universities was fulfilled; the data on the leading universities are presented. The sensitivity of the one of the indicators to rapid changes of the research activity of universities and the fact that the other one is normalized across the fields of science condition advantage of the proposed set over the one that was used in practice of the corresponding national rankings

Liquid crystal as laser medium with tunable gain spectra.

Amplified spontaneous emission intensity and gain spectra in polarized light have been measured in a dye doped nematic liquid crystal for different orientation of its optical axis and pump intensity. A possibility for switching the gain of the liquid crystal by an external electric field is shown experimentally. The liquid crystal materials with field controlled gain can be used in microlasers and light micro-amplifiers in both planar and waveguiding geometry. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America

Влияние сукцинатов на воспалительную реакцию: обзор литературы

АКТУАЛЬНОСТЬ: Эндогенный сукцинат выступает как провоспалительный фактор, экзогенный сукцинат — как противовоспалительный. Механизмы влияния сукцинатов на воспалительную реакцию до конца не изучены. ЦЕЛЬ ИССЛЕДОВАНИЯ: Обобщение современной научной базы по применению экзогенного сукцината для подавления воспалительной реакции. МАТЕРИАЛЫ И МЕТОДЫ: Для поиска статей использованы международные базы данных PubMed, Web Of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus, eLibrary. Использованы запросы: «succinic acid», «amber acid», «inflammation», «meglumine sodium/solution». Поиск ограничен статьями, опубликованными в период с 2012 г. по декабрь 2022 г. Критерии включения: 1) исследования, посвященные изучению энергетического обеспечения клеток в условиях воспаления; 2) влияния сукцината на интенсивность воспалительного ответа за счет изменения энергетического обеспечения клетки; 3) корреляции энергетического обеспечения клетки с клинико-лабораторными показателями воспаления при применении сукцинатсодержащих препаратов; 4) оригинальные исследования. РЕЗУЛЬТАТЫ: Первоначальный идентификационный анализ включал более 200 опубликованных исследований. В результате проведенного скрининга в конечный обзор литературы были включены 84 полнотекстовые статьи, соответствующие критериям отбора: 31 обзор литературы, 24 из которых посвящены провоспалительным эффектам эндогенного сукцината, 7 — противовоспалительному эффекту экзогенного сукцината в составе сукцинатсодержащих препаратов, а также 53 оригинальные научные статьи: 27 статей посвящены изучению молекулярных механизмов эндогенного сукцината, 26 статей — изучению клинического применения сукцинатсодержащих препаратов. ВЫВОДЫ: Роль эндогенного сукцината определена как важнейшего провоспалительного фактора. Экзогенный сукцинат оказывает выраженное противовоспалительное действие, опосредованное нормализацией энергетического обеспечения иммунных клеток в условиях гипоксии. Не найдено исследований, посвященных различиям механизма действия эндогенного и экзогенного сукцината

Some Methodological Aspects of Selection Serials to Be Included in the Information Environment for Researchers in a Technical or Natural Science (by Example of Optoelectronics and Optical Systems)

A comprehensive citation analysis-based methodology for selecting the world scientific serials to be included in information environment for researchers in a specific natural or technical science is featured. The case study was fulfilled for serials to be included in information environment for researchers in optoelectronics and optical systems (OOS) with the use of Journal Citation Reports (JCR) data. The indices taken for serials evaluation were: total citedness of a serial in the selected journals specialized in OOS; the “discipline impact factor” (Hirst 1978) i.e. the impact factor which numerator is the magnitude of a serial citedness not by all the JCR-indexed journals, but by the ones specialized in OOS, the denominator being the number of papers in a cited serial; the magnitude of total citedness of the journals specialized in OOS in a serial under evaluation; the “discipline susceptibility factor” of a serial (Lazarev and Skalaban 2016; Lazarev et al. 2017), i.e. the number of citations to the mentioned specialized journals made in a serial being evaluated divided by the number of papers in a citing serial. The citation window is one year, the publication window is “5+1” years (i.e. 5 previous years plus the year of citing). With the application of the outlined methodology, the selection of serials believed to be necessary to implement research in OOS has been accomplished, and after application of threshold values, merging and elimination some of the data, the list of 538 serials has been determined.
